00:00um essentially and so i think it's it's truly if we want to get deep with it i'm somebody who
00:06doesn't believe that police are necessary period um to be entirely real with you but um with that
00:14being said because it's the structure that we live by in society i think it's just policing the police
00:19um and i think it's okay if civilians need to do that too but um it's interesting it's a lot
00:25different in the u.s than it is in south africa but it's so similar in the same ways in
00:29terms of
00:29the ways in which they use bias and and um things of that sort to you know make sure that
00:36we feel
00:36that we're living under an impressive place i mean considering flowers i mean you said you were one
00:46of four students um at your school did you have like a challenge like um in identity like in terms
00:59of like um being black because like you know there are like sub kids when they when they are in
01:06institutions where you know it's predominantly white and they have to behave in that way
01:13um no i i definitely think that there was there was always a culture shock whenever i was going
01:19from home to school um just because the culture was very different and i was one of four black
01:24students um so there was definitely a lot of culture shock going to and from but what was
01:31frustrating to me was that it was most unfortunate that in order for mine to get a certain level of
01:36education i had to be one of four black students and so that's always bothered me too it's like if
01:42you
01:42can acknowledge the need for charter and private schools that means that you can acknowledge the
01:46fact that the public school system isn't necessarily living up to everything that's supposed to do
01:51um and with that being said why is it that we're allowing the public school systems being the
01:56predicament that it's in knowing that the majority of children are within the public school system
02:01especially when you look demographically at um at us and and where where we are a lot of us are
02:09in the
02:09the private the public school system excuse me um so just saying that variation and realizing that
02:14access to access access to education excuse me and higher education was equated to to whiteness was
02:21something that that definitely had to come back to grips with i know that was a long answer yeah yeah
02:29but like it had a lot of content um considering also like you grew up in harlem right um like
02:40it's a like
02:41from from what i've heard it's a it's a place where like it's very artistic i mean there's also
02:55also that also had an influence on the music too i'm sure
