00:06seven o'clock hour good morning 97 one Jim Costa John Jansen Heather Park
00:11Gov and Greg behind the glass Jalen Duren still doesn't have a contract with the Pistons
00:16this guy's getting bad advice the fact that this is drawn out and dragged out as much as it has
00:21this guy's getting bad advice I don't think there's any question he is and obviously he's
00:27there's no need for either side to have him signed right now but if it goes all the way into
00:35August
00:36the advice that he's getting is going to cost him a ton of money so let's break down what's
00:44actually going on here Jalen Duren has an offer from the Pistons that he doesn't like
00:52he can accept it on Trajan's terms or he can sign a one-year nine million dollar qualifying offer
01:01I'm assuming the Pistons are offering 30 to 35 a year so he could throw away 20 to 25 million
01:07dollars
01:08this year if he signs a qualifying offer the only reason you sign a qualifying offer is so you can
01:14be a true free agent next year and get the hell out of town but is it worth throwing away
01:1820 to 25
01:19million you'll never get back do you really think your market is is all that hot you never want to
01:24start chasing money right and in a career and I understand the hey the bet on yourself because
01:32you believe that you're going to get what 45 next year good luck I think you've learned a lesson this
01:38offseason about what you're worth right but then then it's another two years before you even make up
01:43the difference in what you're not signing for now there's a risk of injury there's a risk of
01:51underperforming there's also the added benefit that you could overperform but and and I think the advice
01:56that he is a lot of assumptions here is he getting the advice from his counsel his agent that you're
02:06worth
02:0740 to 45 million and if you just get to free agency next year I know we can get you
02:13that
02:14versus what teams what type of what what was the feedback he was getting while he was shopping his
02:21wares around eventually not signing not creating a trade for anyone else that's the big question
02:27what were those teams telling him and how much can he actually believe what they were telling him
02:34because they ended up not doing any deals with him he has no leverage though I think that's the lesson
02:39that he needs to learn here you don't have any leverage no one's trading for you the pistons aren't
02:44giving you up in a trade you you don't have leverage you can throw away 20 to 25 million dollars
02:51right now if you're so hard pressed to do it but I'm sorry dude a skill set where you can't
02:56shoot
02:56outside the paint is never going to be game-changing money well and what he showed this year was
03:03yeah there was improvement in the regular season but as I learned and at least was confirmed the
03:11regular season is irrelevant and you're not going to get a max contract from a from a team from any
03:17team if you can't take what you did in the regular season and do as good if not better in
03:23the post
03:23season his post season was terrible so why we were saying here I the pistons you can't give a max
03:31contract to a guy that well he could perform as a max contract if we had a second creator if
03:38we
03:39space the floor like you want that max contract guy to be able to create to be able to do
03:44his own
03:45thing different ways at different positions but he can't again the reporting from Ramona Shelburne
03:51I don't think a deal is going to happen anytime soon because I talked to someone who said negotiations
03:57are at a standstill it could go deep into August it could take a while she also added the pistons
04:06can't afford to lose during but the parties can't agree on what his value is right so and and tip
04:13of
04:13the cap to Trajan Langdon of not overpaying a guy and and not doing something that could cost you
04:20two three four years down the road what advice would you give him sign the deal sign the pistons
04:28offer okay I say that not knowing what that offer is I mean if it's 25 do I think he's
04:36worth more
04:36than that is that a is that just a team using all of their leverage to keep a play to
04:43to beat a guy
04:44down maybe but that also might be his value right and I don't think we've had any indications that
04:49it's that low no but we really haven't had any indication as to where it is yeah I think the
04:55speculation is somewhere in the low 30s mid to low 30s sign it dude take a hundred what would that
05:03be
05:03over four years 120 minimum so yeah take 120 million my advice to you is to be set for the
05:09rest of
05:10your life rather than gamble on a one-year deal where what if this is just your skill set what
05:14if
05:14you're deandre ayton who makes eight million dollars a season well here's the other thing is from from
05:21his perspective he's 22 years old by the time this deal is done he's 26 he entered the league at
05:29such
05:30a young age that nobody looks at a 26 year old player and go well I mean if we give
05:34him a four-year
05:35contract is he going to play it out no it if you want to bet on yourself then take the
05:39money now
05:40and in four years outperform your contract make it really hard make it embarrassing for the
05:48pistons that they got this player it's such a great deal take 120 million play on a good team
05:57get legitimate better and add like you know three-point shots and become a better rebounder
06:02rim protector do all the things you got to do and then at 26 years old get a max right
06:06but in the
06:07meantime put 120 in the bank and play on a good team or you could play for nine million dollars
06:13and go try to have the sacramento kings pay you next offseason and god bless and never win again
06:19and maybe not get the money or win again right it's just that's that's the thing is because of his
06:27age
06:27and because of how much better he has gotten he is i think he is worth probably that 30 to
06:3433 34 35
06:37whatever you want to say it is and then if you want that max deal spend the next four years
06:43and i think
06:44developing a three-point game is i don't think that's a possibility let's work on some legitimate
06:50post moves how about an elbow jumper yeah or just a a 17 foot jump shot yeah two four eight
06:57five three
06:58nine 97 97 how does this end when do you anticipate him playing for the pistons because he will this
07:05season yeah i think in a couple of weeks they will come to an agreement and it'll be it'll be
07:10a four
07:11year deal for whatever that number is that the pistons are are offering right now yeah this it this is
07:18publicity yeah and they're trying to play the let's put they already tried to put pressure on
07:23the pistons they lost that game now they're trying to put pressure on the pistons and the the question
07:28is is we heard trajan langdon hey last year last offseason we gave a plan to jayla duran he he
07:36followed that plan and got better in his postseason press conference this year he said the same thing
07:41we've got another plan in place for him if he's not there is he is he doing the plan is
07:47there a
07:48chance that he takes a step back sure there's a chance you either get better you get worse you
07:51never stay the same he should be working and and i would assume he is
07:58with the pistons now i mean they'll kiss and make up on both sides when this gets done because it
08:06will
08:06get done it's in everybody's best interest to get the deal done the pistons want him back right or
08:11wrong they want him back he can get the most guaranteed money from them not playing out a one-year
08:16qualifying offer and when the deal gets done publicly they will say all the right things on
08:20both sides yeah you know that's the thing is you hire agents and you have sources say things but it
08:26doesn't come from trajan at a podium it's not going to come from jaylen duran at a podium and you
08:31notice
08:31during i'm sorry you've noticed um trajan hasn't done an end of offseason press conference i think this
08:38is the hang-up yeah and once it's done we're excited to have jd back right yeah and then we'll
08:45ask the
08:45questions well why didn't you do more not with jd but with the general 248-539-9797 texas i could
08:53be
08:53wrong but i'm sure with the nba you want to sign your own people last so if trajan has more
08:58moves
08:58to make he doesn't want to pay duran yet he wants to make that move and then jd is the
09:03last signing
09:04that lets them go over the cap without paying the luxury i'm hoping the answer is that langdon is still
09:09working on a trade fingers crossed randy and lavonia i think we're all hoping that i don't know that
09:13that's in the works kind of feels like all of the the seats have been filled the musical chairs are
09:21done we're just simply waiting on lebron yeah and again i'm not going to pretend to know they've
09:27distorted this nba salary cap with the aprons and the luxury tax i'm not going to pretend that i'm an
09:33expert so i could be missing something but i think that text is applied only if you're signing a free
09:39agent if you're going to be trading for a player you could sign duran today and still yes you know
09:46make they have trade exceptions there's all kinds of moving parts i don't think they have to wait
09:52to make the move before paying duran no but that's why we looked at all of the moves that they
09:56were
09:56making and they get this you know a 15 million dollar trade exemption back because they moved this
10:01guy and this chess piece over here and they added to this other deal it's there's there's a lot of
10:07moving parts and we kind of all felt those moving parts were leading to something we just got a
10:14text you know what it's leading to john you know who's still unsigned famously has made no decision
10:19oh no well that's why i just said lebron but no he's not coming to detroit an indecision that could
10:25lead to no he's not coming here all right we're going to keep the show rolling we want to talk
10:28training camp at 7 35 i know a lot of people yesterday tried to get tickets it was a nightmare
10:34it's 97 one
10:35you
10:36you
10:39you
