00:00MCA's Xiao Kong Chun sees himself as the underdog in the battle for the Chenna seat
00:04in the Negeri Sembilan election on August 1st.
00:07But he is hopeful that he can regain Chinese votes
00:10to wrest the seat from DAP Secretary-General Lok Siu Fu.
00:14He believes he has two things going for him,
00:16change in voter sentiment and the fact that Lok already has his hands full.
00:20Xiao believes Chinese votes are no longer the DAP's fixed deposit.
00:25He said the Chinese are more rational at the ballot box now
00:27and they will not be swayed by racial or political sentiments.
00:31He also noted that being a minister and MP and head of the DAP at the same time
00:36would give Lok little leeway to focus on the needs of the people of Chenna.
00:40What the BN candidate can offer is his ability to focus all of his time on serving the constituents
00:45given that he does not have other political or administrative responsibilities.
00:50Xiao thinks these factors will work in his favour.
00:53Xiao and Lok are in a straight fight for Chenna,
00:55a mixed seat comprising 46% Malay voters followed by the Chinese at 44%,
01:00Orang Asli at 5.9% and Indians at 2.1%.
01:05Xiao rejected the notion that BN was focusing on wooing Malay voters,
01:09saying he would approach the constituents of Chenna regardless of race.
