A former US Army soldier has been arrested after allegedly setting a fire outside New York City's 26 Federal Plaza, a building that houses the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Authorities identified the suspect as Andrew Arrabaca, 43, who is accused of launching fireworks, firing an airsoft-style pellet gun, and igniting an accelerant on the building's entrance steps. FBI officials said Arrabaca made anti-government and anti-ICE statements during the incident and was carrying multiple weapons, including a machete, axes, and knives, before being subdued by federal agents. Three people suffered minor injuries, including a government security officer and an immigrant attending a hearing. Officials have described the attack as an extremist act and confirmed an investigation is ongoing. The incident has renewed security concerns around federal immigration offices, which have become frequent sites of demonstrations over US immigration policies.
