01:32Before we dive into modern Russia, we need to understand what kind of social structure
01:37our species evolved to live in. What kind of relationships are we biologically wired for?
01:43Humans didn't evolve in nations or ideologies. For hundreds of thousands of years, our ancestors
01:51lived in small groups. These groups were centered around a few men, usually related by blood,
01:57along with women and children of various ages. The men formed the backbone. They compete with each
02:05other for dominance. But at the same time, they had to work together. Without cooperation,
02:11there was no way to hunt or defend the group. But the rules of the male alliance didn't apply to
02:17everyone. Only to the men. Not to women, not even to their own children. The male alliance was
02:24sacred, even if you were at the very bottom of the pecking order. It carried a near mystical meaning.
02:32These alliances were formed through blood ties, shared hunting experience, or joined raids against
02:37rivals. And they were sealed with rites of initiation. If you wanted to join, you had to prove yourself
02:44through tests, rituals, or deeds specific to that group. Only then were you considered one of them.

05:41To join an alliance, a man has to go through a challenge, sometimes symbolic, sometimes real.
05:47He has to prove he shares the group's values and is willing to sacrifice for them.
05:52Now look at Putin's inner circle. It's a textbook example of male alliance. Old friends, bound by
06:01family ties or more often by a shared past of hunting. In this case, making money together in
06:07the criminal chaos of the 1990s. Their initiation rite was looting state assets and getting away with it.
06:15Male alliances always mark themselves with symbols that separate us from them. In Putin's world,
06:23those symbols are luxury watches, private jets, yachts, and super expensive cars. You can't be in the
06:30club unless you have obscene wealth and show it. You must prove that you are ready to blow millions on
06:37useless trinkets. That signals to other insiders that you are one of them and worth doing business with.
06:45The same pattern could be found everywhere. Clergy wear special robes. Gentlemen clubs have custom rings.
06:53On the Mao, Chinese leaders dressed identically to show they belong to a shared elite. In Japan's
07:01criminal gangs, tattoos. In schools and the military, uniforms. Anyone outside the group, anyone who
07:09didn't pass initiation or lacks these symbols is considered not fully human. They don't deserve
07:16empathy. That's why criminals feel no guilt robbing their neighbors. That's why communists destroyed the
07:23lives of bourgeoisie people just for being in the wrong class. That's why colonial rulers to humanize native
07:31populations and slave owners did the same to slaves. So, are you still surprised that the male alliance
07:39is currently running Russia can send hundreds of thousands of men to die without the slightest shame, while
07:46claiming it's all for the good of the country? Probably not. In their eyes, anyone who's willing to sell their

08:28closest lieutenants. Below them, countless subgroups constantly jogging for rank. In today's Russia, your place in the
08:35hierarchy depends on your background, connections, position, and most of all, money. Members of the
08:42alliance compete fiercely, but not in terms of talent or value to society. The real game is control over
08:50budgets, resources, and the ability to harm others without repercussions. The most powerful are those who
08:57control huge state funds or command armed forces. Then there are the outsiders. The ambitious ones
09:05without enough power to back it up. These people are targeted. The whole pack turns on them, not just to
09:11tear them down, but to show loyalty to the alpha and climb the ranks by proving their usefulness. Take
09:19Alexei Navalny. From the alliance's point of view, he was a dangerous outlier. Ambitious, but without the
09:26position of fortune. Worse, he insisted on playing by the rules. He believed in the law, in courts, in fairness.
09:33That alone marked him as someone who didn't belong. And yet, he had the audacity to challenge the
09:41elite's right to exploit Russia. That's why he had to be destroyed. Not by Putin directly, but by the pack.
09:49A collective attack carried out according to the logic of the male alliance. This logic explains why
09:57members often target weaker individuals for no reason at all. It's about dominance. The perfect victims are
10:05public figures who can't fight back. Directors, writers, actors. People who are visible, influential, and easy to
10:14tear down. The benefit? You earn points. Not with the public, who cares about that, but with other
10:21members of the alliance. That's why under Stalin and Mao, culture workers were purged amass. The same
10:28thing is happening under Putin, just on a smaller scale. You might ask, why bother? Are these people
10:35even a threat to the regime? Their answer lies in ritual. If you understand the male alliance,
10:41it all makes perfect sense. In a male alliance, the alpha male must constantly humiliate his
10:47subordinates. Not just to assert dominance, but to maintain his rank. It's ritual. His subordinates,
10:55in turn, do the same to those beneath them. Putin doesn't usually display this in public,
11:00but reports suggest it happens behind closed doors. If you want a public example, just watch
11:05Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. He routinely screams at his officials on live television.
11:11That's what ritual humiliation looks like. Among equals within a male alliance,

11:28aristocratic duels were all about. To protect your rank, you must challenge any sign of superiority
11:35from your peers or risk being seen as weak, which is a social death sentence. But no matter how
11:42humiliated you feel, you must endure anything the alpha throws your way. This leads to chronic stress.
11:50And eventually, the inevitable question, why do I put up with this? However,
11:57being in the alliance provides access to something you deeply crave. Education, career advancement,
12:04upward mobility, or simply the feeling of being accepted by powerful people you admire.
12:09Male alliances survive only if they offer something worth of suffering. In Putin's Russia, the reward is
12:16clear. The ability to siphon public money into your own pockets and the comfort of being above the law.
12:22The law is for outsiders. Within the alliance, disputes are typically resolved by higher-level officials.
12:30If the boss decides someone should go to prison, guilt doesn't matter. Legal justifications can always be
12:38fabricated. On the flip side, if a loyal insider commits a crime, it's ignored completely. Want a fictional
12:47example of how this works? Reread the Harry Potter books. You'll find everything. Initiations,
12:53hierarchies, loyalty to the group, constant competition, privileged rule breaking, and moral
12:59gray zones. Life only has meaning inside the alliance. If you are not part of it, if you are a
13:07muggle,
13:08you are second class. Definitely not equal to a wizard.
13:16This logic doesn't stop at Russia's borders. It carries into international relations. Only now,
13:23their players aren't individuals. They are entire countries. Putin knows he is not the alpha male on
13:31the world stage. That role belongs to the President of the United States. But Putin fights
13:36fiercely to preserve his status as a beta. A second-tier power with enough muscle to matter. And the entire
13:44Russian male alliance identifies with him. They don't just follow the news. They feel it. When Putin is
13:53disrespected, they take it personally. That's the psychological engine behind Russian hyper-patriotism,
13:59or what's called whitening behavior. I break this down in details in another video. Under male alliance
14:07logic, international politics looks like this. The alpha, the US, bullies everyone and imposes its will.
14:15Other better players, like the UK and EU, try to humiliate Russia to raise their own status. To counter this,
14:23Russia forms an alliance with another better, China, and rallies gamma-level countries through
14:28BRICS. How do you climb the ranks in this system? By humiliating someone below you. That's why Russia
14:36invaded Ukraine. Not for security, not for NATO, but to assert dominance. To demonstrate power. To whom?
14:44To imaginary players in an imaginary game of the international male alliance. Ukraine, in their view,
14:52started acting above its station. So, like any good better, Russia bounced. The goal? Knock her down
15:00and raise their own status. That's why Putin's supporters keep insisting Ukraine will be carved
15:05up by Hungary, Poland, and Russia. It's not analysis. It's instinct. In this world view, no country has true
15:13sovereignty. Everyone is a vessel of someone. That's just how the male alliance works. So, when Putin says he
15:21was forced to invade, he means it. In this system, if someone below you dares to disobey, you must respond
15:30with aggression. If you don't, others, including your own lieutenants, will see you as weak. And
15:36weakness equals social and sometimes physical death. That's why, to Putin in his circle, the war in
15:42Ukraine feels existential. Not for Russia as a nation, but for them personally.
15:52Trying to negotiate with Putin without understanding the logic of the male alliance
15:57is pointless. Trump may offer him a deal. But Putin is not interested in money. He is already one of
16:05the
16:05the richest men on earth. He is fighting for status. If other powers wanted to carve up Ukraine with him,
16:12he might go along. That wouldn't be humiliating. It would be fair play between powerful men sharing
16:19their spoils. But instead, the alpha, the US, and the betters, EU and UK, are ganging up on him and
16:26demanding he back down from Ukraine. That's unthinkable. That would drop Russia to third-tier status.
16:33Irrelevant. Not respected. Not feared. If Putin can't even subdue Ukraine, who is he? He often
16:41says the West betrayed him and he really believes it because he expects other players to follow the
16:47rules of the male alliance. But they don't. They act outside that script. And to him, that's insanity.
16:55To understand Putin and his supporters, just listen to what they say. Why was NATO allowed to bomb Serbia,
17:01but we can't bomb Ukraine? That's a double standard. In translation. Why do some members of our
17:08glorious male alliance get special treatment? Aren't we equals? Don't you respect us? They don't care why
17:15the war started. They don't care about civilians under bombs on either side. To them, those people are just
17:23muggles. Ponds. Expendable.
17:31The worldview shaped by the male alliance is not something fringe ideology. It's deeply embedded in
17:37Russian society. Even highly educated people, fluent and articulate, will confidently explain to you how
17:44real politics works. They'll argue that all societies function the same way. Life is a struggle. Either you
17:52fight for your place under the sun or you get eaten. The West may pretend to believe in democracy, human
17:57rights and national sovereignty. But Russia doesn't pretend. It simply defends its rights. Just like any
18:05other better player in a global power game. You can convince people with this mindset that the world moved on
18:11from this logic a long time ago. That it no longer fits the reality of the 21st century. As I
18:19mentioned earlier,
18:20male alliances are deeply encoded into our behavioral instincts. You can see the same patterns even in
18:27elementary school. There's always a popular kid at the center, surrounded by peers who fight for his attention
18:34while trying to dominate others. There are middle rankers and there are outcasts. The ones the whole
18:41pack turns on. The problem is that this kind of structure is extremely inefficient. People who operate
18:48by the rules of the male alliance burn enormous energy on internal power struggles. They waste their potential
18:56attacking others instead of building something. And they destroy anyone who brings a different kind of
19:02value. Especially those who don't lead with brute strength. In many ways, the history of civilization is
19:09the story of trying to escape this ancient pattern. We build institutions, laws and systems to stop male
19:15alliances from dominating society the way they did among early primates. But rooting out these behaviors is
19:23incredibly difficult. They are subconscious. People act first, then invent justifications afterward.
19:30They made us do it. Everyone does it. Why can't they, but not us? Russia, tragically, wasn't so lucky.
19:40For about two centuries, with great effort and many setbacks, Russia tried to build institutions that could
19:46harness human potential more rationally. And for a time, it started to work. But the 1917 revolution wiped out
19:54nearly everything that had been achieved. Human rights were forgotten. Justice remained only on paper.
20:01And censorship choked any meaningful intellectual life in the humanities. Without space for social
20:07reflection, society quickly slid back into something primitive. Without realizing it, the Bolsheviks replaced
20:15institutions with a tight-knit male alliance led by an alpha male. I explore exactly how this happens and how
20:23that alliance consumed the entire country in my historical novel The Prince of the Soviets.
20:28That pattern returned in full force during the 1990s, when Russia was hit by a brutal economic collapse
20:35and a gold rush that allowed people to amass unimaginable fortunes out of thin air.
20:41And today, that pattern still hasn't ended. Is it possible for Russia's ruling class to reorganize into
20:48something more modern? Yes. But only under one condition. The profits from international trade must
20:55not flow into the hands of a single alpha. Why? Because the alpha needs those resources to buy loyalty,
21:03to compensate everyone below him for the humiliation, stress and compromises that come with being in the
21:10alliance. If that compensation disappears, the alliance collapses. How to redirect those financial
