00:00Why is Putin bending over backwards to convince conservative people to immigrate to Russia?
00:07My name is Elvira Berry. I am an author born in the USSR and today we'll take a look at
00:13the logic
00:13behind why Bill is so eager to attract conservative foreigners and how he plans to use them.
00:24Putin needs foreign political alliances because Russia's economy relies heavily on importing raw
00:31materials and exporting everything else. That means he needs buyers for oil, gas and metals,
00:38as well as friendly regimes through which he can organize supplies of sanctioned goods.
00:44Western democracies oppose Putin in more or less a unified front because, at the core,
00:50any alliance is about shared narratives and values. We tend to make friends with those who are like us,
00:57who share our beliefs. So, who can Putin align himself with? He can't exactly say,
01:04dear dictators and crooks, let's join forces and keep robbing our people together.
01:10He needs to present the world with some kind of ideological platform.
01:14The truth is, Putin doesn't believe in much. Just watch my video on the psychological profile of
01:20the Russian dictator. So, he decided to align himself with what seems to be popular in other
01:27countries that could collectively stand in opposition to the West, the Arab world, Iran, China and South
01:34America. These are societies that uphold traditional values. Well, if that's the case, then Russia will play
01:43along too. So, the message sent out to the world is, we are open to forming alliances with those who
01:50are
01:50committed to family, religion and the wisdom of ancestors. The people who don't speak Russian or
01:57aren't familiar with their social structure of Russia can't easily verify whether this is true.
02:03They are unaware that nearly every boss in Russia has mistresses because that's considered a sign of
02:10masculinity. They don't know that homosexuality is much more prevalent in Russia's upper echelons
02:18than is widely believed and that many charming young men owe their positions to causing up with their
02:25higher ups in the soil. The same goes for religion. Of course, there are genuinely religious people in
02:33Russia, but the rituals shown on TV and the icons adoring their offices of officials don't necessarily
02:40reflect the true state of affairs. Religion is a certain way of life and a moral code. Let's take
02:48any of the Ten Commandments and see how they are practiced in Russia. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not
02:56commit
02:56adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Well, Putin and the Ten
03:07Commandments don't seem to have much in common. But that's no problem for the propagandists. The image of
03:14society as a whole can always be swept out for bright eye-catching visuals on your TV screen or smartphone.
03:22This is why it's so easy to find a few conservative families among the millions living in the West,
03:29families with children, a certain way of life and traditional values, and bring them to Russia in
03:35front of the cameras. These people have all kinds of motivations. Some genuinely believe that Russia will
03:42be their conservative paradise. Others simply love Russian aesthetics. Some are tired of dull everyday life
03:49and want an adventure. Others are looking to take advantage of financial assistance from the Russian
03:55government to improve their situation. Their stories make perfect propaganda material, even if they don't
04:02realize it. People are inclined to believe their own eyes. And when they see happy parents hugging their
04:08children, they like the image. Even more so if these people speak their language and explain in detail how
04:15wonderful their life is. And this becomes the most visual proof that Russia is a country with
04:22conservative values, and those who are dissatisfied with their Western ideology can unite around it.
04:30Advertising of anything, releasing clear messaging, a desired image, and repetition.
04:37Coca-Cola shows young happy people living their best lives, and a cold foggy bottle is a symbol of being
04:44modern, interesting, and attractive. For Putin's regime, it's all about tradition, strong families,
04:51and the spiritual triumphing over the material. By repeating this narrative over and over, the desired image
04:59gets ingrained in the minds of politicians who are in a position to make decisions. They are not
05:06historians or sociologists. They don't know what their situation is really like.
05:11Because they haven't subscribed to my channel yet, right?
05:20It's important to understand that all of this is not so much aimed at the foreign audience,
05:26but more at the domestic one. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Russia has lost about a million
05:33emigres, people with education and money. They left because they didn't want to live in a totally
05:39charging society where you have no way to protect yourself from the state if it decides to take
05:45everything away from you. These people have found new lives in the West, in Thailand, the United Arab
05:51Emirates, and Bali, Indonesia. They post photos on Instagram and chat with their relatives and friends.
05:57And now, those who stayed behind are starting to get that uncomfortable thought.
06:04Maybe I should live too? The economy is crashing. Soon a million soldiers will come back from the front,
06:11used to killing people just like me. If my friend Andrei could settle in the Czech Republic,
06:18and my neighbor Natasha found a new home in California, maybe I could too?
06:24By the way, not everyone succeeds. I know of cases where people ran for their savings and came back,
06:31cursing the soulless America for their failures. In Russia, they are deliberately pushing a narrative
06:38that, first of all, life in the West is awful without Russian oil and gas. Any misfortune like the
06:46fires in Los Angeles is exaggerated, while achievements are conveniently left out. If you're curious about

07:00decay and moral collapse. People are forced to become gay, their children are taken away, and so on.
07:07Third, there's terrible Russophobia in the West, meaning hatred of Russians. Therefore, if you immigrate,
07:15you'll be eaten alive. And of course, the chair on top. Look, normal people from the West are actually
07:23running to us. And this shocked viewer is shown happy Canadians or Americans in front of their charming
07:30new house somewhere in Rizan region. The art of propaganda is not about lying. The art of propaganda is
07:38about crafting narratives from truthful pieces that benefit your superiors here and now. It's like
07:46stringing beads together. You can use the same beads to create both a queen's necklace and a dog collar.
07:53It's crucial for the Russian government to push the narrative that ordinary Russians have no future in
08:00the West. Right now, Russia is facing an acute shortage of professionals in almost every field except for
08:07being a high-ranking state official with a big salary. If the remaining people leave, who will Vladimir Putin
08:14have left? Will he become the king of patriotic grandmothers and drunken soldiers returning from war?
08:25Relocating foreigners to Russia is actually a state-sponsored program. And where there is government
08:31support and resource distribution, you can always expect a group of officials
08:37officials who will benefit from it. These officials push the narrative that it's important, necessary,
08:43and that the government should spend as much money as possible for this glorious goal.
08:49There's a program for repatriating fellow countrymen, meaning people with Russian roots.
08:55There are also protocols for foreigners who simply want to move to Russia permanently. Under certain conditions,
09:02the government even provides financial assistance and covers travel expenses. But it's important to
09:08realize that this has very little to do with traditional values. If it were truly about that,
09:15the Russian government would treat all those who share those values equally. However, not all immigrants
09:23are created equal. It's one thing for a family from Canada, Germany, or the US to move to Russia,
09:30and another entirely if they are from Uzbekistan or Tajikistan. Immigrants from the West will be treated
09:38far better. They might even be visited by journalists, and local authorities will help them just to create the
09:45right image for the government's purposes. If some Russian immigrant decides to return to Russia, they can
09:52expect the same kind of reception. They'll simply be absorbed in their population, placed somewhere on
09:58their first or second rounds of the social ladder. The infamous Russian bureaucracy will cause them
10:04endless headaches, and at times even exploit them. But there are lack exceptions where everything goes
10:12smoothly. It all depends on luck. On the other hand, if a fan of traditional values comes from Asia,
10:18Russia, the treatment is completely different. Not every landlord will want to rent a place to them.
10:25They'll be stowed by police simply because of their appearance. They'll be extorted for bribes.
10:30There are known cases of people being forced to fight in the war in Ukraine. Once they receive Russian
10:37citizenship, they are told, now go and serve your new motherland. In other words, serve its dictator.
10:44If you are different in appearance from the native population, you'd better be wealthy, drive an
10:50expensive car, and dress exceptionally well to be treated as an equal. Otherwise, if you are just a
10:58regular guy working on construction, people will look at you with suspicion, and your children will be
11:04seen as burdens on their education and healthcare systems. But hey, it's the same everywhere. In America,
11:12an immigrant from Britain is treated differently from one from Haiti. And in France, immigrants from
11:18Denmark aren't seen the same way as those from Algeria. If you still have questions or ideas for future
