00:00Punching a hole in the air for his teammate here and well if we can compare their two times
00:06already six tenths of a second up on Valtteri Bottas during the course of this lap and this
00:11could be important for Cadillac here to maybe gain two or three places on the grid and with
00:17grid penalties to come you know starting maybe in the midfield a 149.3 is the first time on the
00:21ball. Could be a bit neck and neck here as Gasly and Colopinto go through to record their first
00:25times. Verstappen with a 145.9 straight then into the 145s. Has Kimi Antonelli got more pace
00:33first and third sector than Verstappen makes up in the middle sector? No by nearly four tenths
00:39Verstappen is ahead. That is a bit of a surprise to a lot of people here but not Martin Brundle.
00:45I've very rarely seen a young driver look so comfortable so quickly getting into Formula
00:50one is Arvid Lindblad. Lewis Hamilton crosses the line seventh fastest only. We're on board now with
00:58Isaac Hadjar. He puts in the second best time so far. We'll go to Bernie Collins in a moment and
01:04just get a little read on who's on new tyres who's on soft tyres because that can make a difference
01:08in the pecking order too as Piastri crosses the line only seventh but ahead of Lawson and ahead of
01:14Hamilton. Norris to the line now goes quickest by six one hundredths of a second. Norris, Verstappen,
01:21Hadjar, Lindblad the top four. It's nothing to do with tyres. We lost a lot of temperature in the garage.
01:29Kimi Antonelli and now down to sixth. Carlos Sainz stays twelve fastest. He's on the cusp. Might be the
01:36right side of it. We shall see. Lindblad doesn't improve on the used tyres and Lawson next across the
01:41line doesn't improve either. Esteban Ocon will need to improve. It's going to be his fastest lap
01:46but it doesn't get him out of the bottom six. He's 18. Behrman goes to P13 which should see him
01:52through. You would think into Q2. Charles Leclerc ahead of Antonelli and goes sixth fastest. Alonso next
01:59across the line. He's at the back of the grid come what may and well he's qualified at the back
02:02of the
02:03grid anyway. Here's Alex Albon then moves ahead of Gasly and ahead of Hulkenberg. So it's a touch and go
02:08for Pierre Gasly a bit who finds himself right on the edge here. Hulkenberg P12. Here comes Lewis
02:15Hamilton next across the line. Goes fourth fastest. Now it's all about survival. Pierre Gasly is the
02:21next one to cross the line. Moves up into twelfth fastest. So it's Colopinto or Albon racing for a
02:27place in Q2. And Alex Albon has missed out sadly for him and for Williams as Franco Colopinto
02:34makes it out. And Ollie Behrman has said he should be okay with that time. By about seven
02:39one thousandths of a second he made it. And this is such a tight little exit on the chicane here.
02:46And then you stay right. Shoulders run to the line which is not very far away. That's a proper lap
02:51time. Low one minute 45s. That's serious. That is a 1.2 second improvement on his best time in Q1
02:59is what that lap was. And it's half a second clear of George Russell. And that's the gap that
03:04we've been seeing. Board now with Carlos Sainz in the Williams as Ollie Behrman on the used tyres
03:09can only do a 1.47.4. It is though about a tenth of a second behind Sainz. Next across
03:16the line
03:16will be Isaac Hadjar in the Red Bull. And he goes third fastest. And we can ride on board now
03:22with his
03:22teammate Max Verstappen who was what four hundredths of a second away from being knocked out in Q2 in
03:28Austria. It might not have that problem today. Goes ahead of George Russell and second behind
03:33Kimi Antonelli. Yeah interestingly Verstappen was three four tenths faster than the Mercedes through
03:38the middle sector of the lap. And Piastri then well into the 1.45 now as well. That's much better
03:44for
03:44him. Lindblad close third fastest. You'll notice on the Red Bull that Macarena wing that we've become
03:50used to with a big gap for the active aero. That's not on the car this weekend as Lando Norris
03:55goes second fastest. They're still trying to fix the issue that saw Max go off into the gravel
03:59at Silverstone. So they've gone back to the old wing. Lost performance but it should keep the
04:03drivers on the track. Leclerc now second fastest. Hamilton fourth fastest. So Leclerc moves ahead
04:09of his teammate. That's Hulkenberg only P13 in the Audi. Half a second difference and it's all in
04:15Isaac Hadjar's favour currently. Car rotated really nicely into that final chicane really
04:20on the nose. But stays ninth. Next across the line. Can he get out of the bottom six? No he
04:27can't. He
04:27misses out by a couple of tenths of a second. So is his teammate Franco Colopinto going to do it?
04:34No it's not. So Alpine missing out. Gasly still doesn't have a Q3 appearance here since 2021.
04:39And it's four races in a row he's not made it into Q3. And Carlos Sainz 15th means Williams
04:45still haven't made it into Q3 this season. George Russell's going to be safe here. One by one
04:49they're failing to take any extra hold. Oli Behrman's on a personal best lap. He crosses
04:57the line only 16th. Fastest Charles Leclerc. Just did he take the flag? Yes he did take the flag
05:02Charles Leclerc. Arvid Lindblad goes sixth fastest. So nothing really changed too much towards the end
05:09of that Q2 session. Towards the start line. Isaac Hadjar will just be slowing down to keep Max
05:14in touch a bit. Now Gabriel Portoleto. Did he have a rider? He was down three unsafe places in one
05:20I think.
05:22Well he did have his wheel over the right line. No disruption for Isaac Hadjar because he will start
05:29at the back of the grid. So he's done his bit for his teammate here. And Max Verstappen will cross
05:34the line with a couple of tenths I think extra pace after Isaac Hadjar's duties there. 1.44.9.
05:41First driver this weekend into the 1.44s. And it's Max Verstappen. Antonelli crosses the line and the
05:49difference is about a tenth of a second. George Russell next to cross the line three tenths down
05:54on his teammate. And that was the benefit of the toe right there for Red Bull. Arvid Lindblad. 1.2
06:00seconds
06:01off the pace. But that P4 might not drop down the order too much. Charles Leclerc goes onto the front
06:07row.
06:08What a lap from Charles Leclerc. The Astri will be next to cross the line. P5 just ahead of the
06:14racing
06:14bulls. Lando Norris has got a 10 place grid penalty. Fastest in the middle sector as Lewis Hamilton goes
06:20on to the second row. Now Lando Norris who goes quickest will a 1.44.8. And Lando Norris who
06:29was on pole
06:30here at Spa last year is currently fastest in Q3 12 months later. Cracking that.
06:37himself there down in P6. Turn 14 and the run to turn 18. So he lost everything at number three.
06:45This is Oscar Piastri. Before he gets to that tricky corner. Yeah. Turn 14. Oof. Yeah. Tricky right?
06:54Yep. It is. And yeah. And then you lose speed all the way. So. Oh we've got a red flag.
07:02I wonder if there's
07:02gravel on the track. We saw Oscar Piastri dipping a tyre into the gravel down at Stavolo at turn 14.
07:11And I wonder if there's a bit too much gravel there and we need to sweep up the track. This
07:15is something that
07:16happened yesterday in FP2. The first red flag we had there. It was for a bit of track maintenance.
07:23And that's hurt nobody because they're all in a pit lane or in the garage. So there it is.
07:28Well no. It's not. There's still a bit of gravel on there. So people with brooms assemble. And we'll get
07:36that gravel swept away.
07:37And what you don't want is any car picking up a puncture because of that.
07:42And now comes the toe behind Isaac Hadjar. And he's getting a really good slipstream now.
07:47And actually might need to overtake his teammate. And does so. Did that cost Verstappen a bit of time?
07:52Did he have to check? I wonder. As he gets to the bus stop chicane.
07:56A 46-0 in the middle sector for Verstappen and Antonelli. A 46-1 for Charles Leclerc.
08:02Verstappen crosses the line on pole position. 1.44-6. Crowd go wild.
08:09Antonelli replaces him by 3 tenths of a second. George Russell very much in touch to the first two parts
08:15of the lap.
08:15But he misses out in the final sector. Half a second down. So it's Antonelli, Verstappen.
08:21Here comes Leclerc. No front row for the third race in a row for him.
08:24And next to cross the line, Hamilton can't improve. But what about Lindblad?
08:29Fastest in the first sector. Personal best middle sector. P7.
08:33Best qualifying ever for the young rookie in the Racing Bulls.
08:37Piastri and Norris to come, but they're not improving.
08:40Piastri crosses the line and goes ahead of Lindblad.
08:44That P8 will still be good enough for him. Lando Norris.
08:50He's not had a great middle sector and pits before the end of his lap.
08:56That's a cracking lap, wasn't it? But...
08:58Let's pee well, mate.
09:00Let's go, man. Let's go.
09:02Nice birthday present for your old man.
09:04Yeah, happy birthday, Dad.
09:07Well done, mate. Yeah. Really tidy lap there.
09:08Well done, mate. Yeah, really tidy lap there.
