00:00Hey, my man, can I help you?
00:02Let me get an autograph?
00:03Nah, I ain't signing an autograph since you get off my car.
00:05You don't remember me, huh?
00:12Damn it.
00:13Thanks so much for having a chat with me. I really appreciate it.
00:16And congratulations on Creed III.
00:18It's an amazing movie and you're fantastic in it.
00:20What can you tell me about how this role kind of came into your life?
00:24Probably the most unorthodox,
00:25because my manager calls me and says,
00:28Hey, Michael B. Jordan wants your phone number.
00:31And I go, the fuck out of here.
00:32I was like, no he doesn't.
00:34Me?
00:35She says, yeah.
00:35And I go, okay, cool.
00:38Should we give it to him?
00:39And she's like, yeah, I think so.
00:42And I go, all right, give it to him.
00:43I give it to him.
00:44He calls me back 10 minutes later, FaceTime.
00:48Hey, bro.
00:49I'm like, whoa, what's up?
00:51Michael B. Jordan, you know.
00:53He hung up.
00:55I called him back 10 minutes later and said, yeah, I'll do it.
00:57I'm in.
00:58So my team was even freaking out at how fast and how intimate the conversation had been
01:05and the process, yeah.
01:07Amazing.
01:08Your character, Damien, very complex individual.
01:11I really like that.
01:12What was it about that character that really drew you to him?
01:14Oh, I know Dame.
01:15You know, I grew up around dames, you know, guys with so much potential who just took the
01:22wrong road, you know, or got forced down the wrong road and then lost it.
01:26And then sometimes, rarely do they get a chance to come out.
01:29And when they do, you know, sometimes they go back to crime.
01:33They go back to the shit that they were doing beforehand or they've just ran out of gas,
01:37you know.
01:38And, you know, Dame is a love letter to, you know, those who have been, you know, pushed
01:43aside or made the wrong decision, you know.
01:46And maybe they can redeem themselves.
01:50Maybe they can be exonerated from it.
01:52And ultimately, you know, it's a story about what it is to be, when the mind is incarcerated,
01:57what it takes to free oneself again, you know.
02:00That's something I was really into, you know, in addition to the fact that it's a boxing
02:05film and you got to fight and, you know, do all this stuff.
02:09That's awesome.
02:09That's one of the parts that I really loved is the fight scenes are so real.
02:12It's amazing.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Have you fought before?
02:15Were you a boxer or anything like that before?
02:16Yeah.
02:17I mean, I used to fight my ass off in high school.
02:19You know what I mean?
02:20But no, I didn't box.
02:21You know, I had one of my best friends growing up.
02:24A guy named Brandon Wyatt was a Golden Gloves boxer.
02:26And very much like in the film, where Adonis would carry his bag, we had a stent, you know,
02:34where I would just kind of roll with him, you know, to boxing practice or, you know, be there
02:38and watch him fight.
02:40And you and Charlie, yeah, I'll try a little bit, you know.
02:42We were at the same age.
02:44But no, not to the extent of an Adonis or Damien, no.
02:49Excellent.
02:50The training itself must have been pretty intense.
02:52I have to say, like, your physique in the movie is absolutely next level.
02:55Thanks, bro.
02:56What were you kind of doing to train and to eat?
02:58And I'm sure you were eating like 50 meals a day just to keep the calories up.
03:01Like 70, like, it depends on how you're built, you know.
03:04Like, I'm slim by nature.
03:08You know, athletically built, but slim by nature.
03:09Very much like yourself.
03:11And so for guys like us to gain in whole weight, you got to eat.
03:15And then you have to sustain it for a long period of time.
03:18So the metabolism and everything kind of goes, okay, this is what it is now.
03:22You know what I mean?
03:22So that was its own thing, you know.
03:24And that was seven meals a day, you know, shakes, the whole.
03:28I mean, it's just torturous, you know.
03:30But then the body adapts and all of a sudden you realize, oh, that weight's staying, you know.
03:34I fought at 188, you know what I mean?
03:37That day looks like 205, you know, but I fought at 188.
03:41And then I'm now, yeah, the bodybuilding, it doesn't matter what the other, yeah, yeah.
03:46But, yeah, man, it was intense, you know.
03:48It was intense.
03:49But it's also like character study, you know.
03:52It's nice to do a physical film, a sports film like that, because everything you're doing as the actor,
03:57your character will be doing, you know, in the film.
04:00Yeah.
04:01So the marriage is quite seamless.
04:05Now, you are kind of on a bit of a tear at the moment.
04:07So I just wanted to ask, what's it feel like to be Hollywood's fastest rising star?
04:11I don't know, man.
04:12I'm 33 years old.
04:14I've been trying to do these things since I was 14.
04:16So, you know, it's just a matter of time, you know.
04:19Certain roles and all of a sudden, like, I'm of a certain age, you know,
04:22where they want to tell stories about, you know, the young man category, you know,
04:28the contemporary or whatever it is, you know.
04:30It's a great deal of hard work and luck.
04:35But, you know, depending on when you took a look, you know,
04:39it may seem astronomical or just natural.
04:43Jonathan Majors, thank you so much.
04:44Thanks, bro.
04:44I really appreciate it.
04:45It's been fantastic.
04:46Thanks, man.
