00:30my name is Laura Ennevar I am a professional surfer and big wave surfer and I'm from the
00:37northern beaches in Sydney I fell in love with surfing around nine years old me and my brother
00:42surfed together every day before and after school you know with all our friends we just lived in the
00:47ocean all these beaches along the coast here on the northern beaches they're so nostalgic it's
00:53essentially where I grew up especially here at Narrabeen and joining the board riders club when
00:57I was 10 years old I was always pushing myself to just sort of keep up and I feel like
01:02that just
01:03sparked something inside me that I was like I can do what these guys can do
01:13I got sponsored when I was about 11 or 12 years old I got sent to Hawaii to go to
01:19the Lisa Anderson
01:19champ camp and we all just got to like hang with her for a week go surfing and I just
01:25got to meet
01:25all these other international young girls from around the world that surfed I left Hawaii just
01:30going oh my gosh I just like want to get as good as them and that trip fueled my ambition
01:34for sure
01:35just to be like this is what I want to do
01:46those like five years from like when I went to Hawaii to that camp to 17 felt like it went
01:51so quick all of a
01:53sudden I was on the world tour competing it's my heroes and it was surreal I had some amazing results
01:58I got to my first world tour final against Steph Gilmore on the Gold Coast fast forward maybe five
02:06years into my competitive career I did start kind of losing that spark a bit and add a few pretty
02:13bad
02:13losing streaks and performance anxiety and it's just like I think everyone goes through that in their
02:19career you're growing up you're trying to learn about yourself I had started to lose like my love
02:25for why I started and I noticed that it was showing my performances I went off on these solo surf
02:30missions
02:31and I just got the best waves I had in years it's kind of like once I did that I
02:38realized like wow like
02:39when you fill your cup and do things like with purpose and passion I went into that next event the
02:45Australian Open I won it and it was my first win in five years outside of competing the feeling of
02:57surfing these be perfect waves started feeling better than winning contests so then I had my answer there
03:09maybe I should go and just like surf for me and like just like reconnect with that girl that loved
03:15it from a young age I knew I just wanted to chip away and just push myself and I started
03:29by heading to
03:30some of the best big wave surf spots in Australia I'd obviously made this monumental decision to go and
03:35be a big wave surfer and my first trip was down to Shipstone's Bluff in Tasmania and I got towed
03:47into
03:47this like big beautiful wave and I just got absolutely annihilated I came up and I was like wow that
03:58was intense
04:04if I get knocked down I just want to get back up and try again after then things started aligning
04:10like slowly
04:11but surely the more I chipped away at it and you know the more I just put in the time
04:15and the energy
04:16and met some amazing people that took me to some of these incredible waves and I just learned a lot
04:21from a lot of the best guys that do you know big wave surfing here in Australia and like part
04:27of me felt
04:27empowered because I was doing what I wanted to do and I was so like ambitious to just sort of
04:32stay resilient
04:33and push through that was probably what I'm most proud of I think
04:54I rewatched that video of me wiping out and I just thought I can do this I want to go
04:58back there and
04:59actually make that wave when I was in like a really dangerous big wave scenario I was feeling confident
05:05so sure of myself I was just like this different version of myself that I was like I need to
05:11go
05:11hang out with her more my next sort of goal was to paddle into the biggest waves that I could
05:17but I never had the goal of paddling into the biggest wave ever
05:27but that happened
05:29the wave was 43.6 feet
05:33or 13.3 meters
05:35and I surfed it at this wave
05:37an outer reef on the north shore of Y
05:39that was the best moment of my life
05:41like I couldn't believe that I got it
05:44yeah a few days later
05:45I got a message and someone had photographed my wave and they sent it through and I like couldn't believe
05:53what it looked like and the photographer said I think this is the biggest wave I've ever paddled into by
06:00a woman
06:00so yeah I submitted it to Guinness and yeah a few months later they gave me a call and said
06:07that yeah I'd broken the world record
06:10it's like still sounds so weird
06:16I'm so proud

06:34my biggest goal would be to inspire young girls and just if they can watch me
06:38sort of push myself and go for it and yeah we're just capable and we're enough and I think I
06:44just want little girls to know that
06:45that they can do anything they put their mind to or put their heart to
06:59investing in your ambition is so important and whether your ambition is to help other people inspire other people
07:06or just be creative and get out there I think you know Stake's ambition project is just giving us the
07:13opportunity to do that and chase the next dream
07:20my ambition project would be document my comeback back to Hawaii since my injury a year ago just really show
07:28all of that journey and everything I've learnt along the way and then to get back out and get surfing
07:33again at especially the place that I got injured so that would be the project and then also to highlight
07:40all the women in the surf world there's been so many more women getting into big wave surfing the last
07:44few years and
07:45and
07:46yeah just want to inspire them and highlight them all
