00:00:01What's happening, y'all?
00:00:02Welcome to Wake Up Arsenal here on FS1.
00:00:05It is Friday, meaning we're ready to have ourselves a weekend.
00:00:09We've got a World Cup final coming up.
00:00:11We've got Greg Berhalter coming on to break it all down.
00:00:14Aaron Schatz talking all things NFL as the Fantasy Almanac is now out.
00:00:19Get ready for your season.
00:00:20And we've got Smasher Pass.
00:00:22The Summer Sandwich Series bracket's officially set.
00:00:25Let's find out which sandwich reigns supreme.
00:00:28All today on FS1.
00:00:51Welcome in.
00:00:52This is Wake Up Barstool, guys.
00:00:54Hope you're ready to have a great weekend.
00:00:55I'm T-Bow Mayberry.
00:00:56We've got Michael Koenig, Danny Beer's chief.
00:00:57We've got Megan making money behind the glass.
00:01:00And we've got a lot to get to today.
00:01:02But first, how's everyone doing today, guys?
00:01:03Are we excited?
00:01:04A little smoky weekend this Friday?
00:01:06So good, dude.
00:01:07So pumped.
00:01:08So good.
00:01:09I mean, the Windy City Smokeout, right?
00:01:12Wow, that was actually fine.
00:01:13Has anyone made that one yet?
00:01:15No.
00:01:15That's a good joke.
00:01:16How long were you planning that?
00:01:17I just thought of it, actually.
00:01:18Did anybody go see Odyssey yesterday?
00:01:21Anybody celebrate Odyssey Day?
00:01:22No, I'm planning on seeing it this weekend, though.
00:01:24Do I need to do IMAX?
00:01:25What's that?
00:01:26Do I have to do IMAX for that?
00:01:28I would say, yeah.
00:01:29I mean, you don't got to go full, like, 70 millimeter, right?
00:01:31But it is, I think.
00:01:33I think it's like the first ever major motion picture to be fully filmed in IMAX.
00:01:37Could be wrong on that.
00:01:38But the point is, like, that's how they made it.
00:01:39And I do think it benefits.
00:01:41Did you see it?
00:01:41Oh, bro.
00:01:42Yeah.
00:01:42Sick?
00:01:43Oh, yeah.
00:01:44It was great.
00:01:45And I got a lot of thoughts about it.
00:01:46I don't think we'll get it on today's show.
00:01:48Are you still, like, riding that high?
00:01:49Yes.
00:01:50Yes.
00:01:51So you can't, you're too, you don't want to make it a ranking, like, is it in your top
00:01:56ten, top five?
00:01:57I'm not ready to rank yet.
00:01:58That requires too much roomination.
00:02:00And I feel like sometimes we rush to score and we rush to rank and then we kind of miss
00:02:05talking about the movie itself.
00:02:07Right.
00:02:07So I'm going to talk about the movie itself and then later on, after more viewings, I'll
00:02:12see where it ends up.
00:02:14How much popcorn?
00:02:15I actually just did a medium yesterday.
00:02:18Yeah.
00:02:18That is, that is, what?
00:02:21That's kind of ridiculous.
00:02:22No, no, no, no.
00:02:23I did not.
00:02:23It's a three-hour movie, right?
00:02:24Yes, a three-hour movie, but I wanted no bathroom trips.
00:02:28So I was trying to be a little contained.
00:02:31But I mean, of course.
00:02:32I did popcorn before the movie started.
00:02:34Well, that's why you get a large.
00:02:35You go to the previews, eat it before the previews end, then you go refill it.
00:02:39You've talked about this in the past.
00:02:41Yeah, I mean, that's great.
00:02:42That's how you do it.
00:02:43Two and a half hours in when Odysseus is near the climax.
00:02:47I don't want to have to go.
00:02:48No spoilers.
00:02:49I'm not.
00:02:50I'm not.
00:02:50I'm not.
00:02:51But no, it was.
00:02:52Yeah, same.
00:02:54It is a 3,000-year-old story.
00:02:55Very funny.
00:02:56No spoilers.
00:02:56But I know what you're saying.
00:03:00Look, it was.
00:03:02You know what I mean, man.
00:03:03Very simple review.
00:03:05Two thumbs up.
00:03:05I'd recommend seeing an IMAX.
00:03:06It was a spectacle.
00:03:07Nolan in his bag.
00:03:08It was fantastic.
00:03:10Did you know it was a 3,000-year-old?
00:03:11I know the Odyssey.
00:03:12Okay.
00:03:13All right.
00:03:13It's the original story.
00:03:15All right.
00:03:16But let's get it.
00:03:17You know what else has been spectacular?
00:03:18This World Cup, right?
00:03:19Yes, it has.
00:03:20And now we got a final for the first time ever featuring the number one and two teams
00:03:26entering the tournament in Argentina, Spain.
00:03:29Chief, give us your early read on Sunday's final.
00:03:34I don't know what to think now because I had France just dummying everybody and obviously
00:03:38they couldn't get the ball off of Spain and it's hard to imagine.
00:03:41It's like the unsolvable force and movable object because you saw with Messi at the end
00:03:46of the game, he can just take over.
00:03:49England let him kind of take over.
00:03:50That was bad management by them.
00:03:52But Spain feels like the better team on paper, but Messi's just that X factor.
00:03:57So I feel like it's going to be tight.
00:04:00Spain is never going to beat you 3-4-0, so it's going to be within a goal.
00:04:03So Messi's going to have a chance to do something special at the end and we'll see what happens.
00:04:08But I think if, you know, gun to my head, I'm taking Spain in this one.
00:04:12What is it about this Argentina team that kind of spends the first 70 minutes just looking
00:04:17kind of, you know, a little bit slower and then all of a sudden they flip the switch
00:04:22and go nuts?
00:04:23Yeah, they've done it the entire tournament.
00:04:25I think that there was a stat through the, so far, every knockout game they have not had
00:04:30a lead through 90 minutes.
00:04:33It's the craziest stat you could ever imagine.
00:04:35It is insane.
00:04:36So, and it doesn't matter who the opponent is, but this is like, if you give Messi that
00:04:40much space on the outside, he's going to do that.
00:04:43So that was part of the problem.
00:04:45England with 35 minutes to go just decided to stop playing, which allows Argentina to
00:04:50obviously get in the game and eventually win the game.
00:04:53But I don't know what the answer to that question is.
00:04:56It's not like they're not trying the first 90 minutes.
00:04:58It's just, they just have like this extra gear that they hit and they have the best player
00:05:03who ever lived making plays like that to rescue it.
00:05:07So, and they are just like, they've been there so many times.
00:05:10Like this group is a veteran group.
00:05:12Yeah.
00:05:12Like, you know, they have guys, like the guy that they bring on late, Montiel, he's a right
00:05:17back.
00:05:18He was the guy who hit the game winning penalty four years ago.
00:05:21He barely plays.
00:05:22But when he comes on, it's like the moment's not going to be too big for him.
00:05:26He's right there.
00:05:28And then, you know, and it's just like, you just look at Messi and it's just like that
00:05:31guy, you just can't give him any space.
00:05:34But if you put two guys on him, they can break you down another way.
00:05:37It's like Roy Keane was talking about it.
00:05:39Yeah.
00:05:39Roy Keane.
00:05:40He sets up the first goal.
00:05:41Right.
00:05:41And it's just like, you can't, you can't beat him.
00:05:44So it's just like, he's just biding his time and maybe, maybe the other team gets a
00:05:48little tired and he just doesn't like he, cause he does that thing where he just kind
00:05:52of walks around all day.
00:05:53And then when it gets to crunch time, he just turns into Superman.
00:05:56I was going to say, you mentioned the walking around.
00:05:57He's got a little bit of the Borg in him from Star Trek, which like the Borg, they see
00:06:03an enemy, they see an opponent, they analyze them and then they always like find the way
00:06:10to beat them.
00:06:11And that's him.
00:06:11He's analyzing for 70 and then he turns in the last 20.
00:06:15What were you going to say about it?
00:06:15No, I was just a question for the boys.
00:06:17Obviously we have Yamal, you have Messi.
00:06:19Messi is the best player in the world.
00:06:21Would you rather see Messi, you know, go out on top or would you rather see the young
00:06:25and upcoming Yamal win one?
00:06:27The baby that was bathed.
00:06:29I don't really care for Yamal if I'm being honest.
00:06:30What is the story behind that?
00:06:31The baby, so it was a charity photo shoot back in the day where they used to, I can't
00:06:37remember the company, but it was like families would enter a lottery and winners would get
00:06:41to take, they're kids, we get to take pictures with the best Barca players and just in an
00:06:47absurd truth is stranger than fiction moment, this little man here, this little cute little
00:06:53chunky nugget of a boy would go on to be the 19 year old phenom that is Yamal, such a
00:07:00cute
00:07:00baby.
00:07:01Such an absolutely cute baby.
00:07:02So no one answered my question besides Chief.
00:07:04She said he doesn't really care for you.
00:07:05Sorry, I cut everyone.
00:07:06I think, no, I mean, I'm going to say I don't have a dog in the fight and I find
00:07:12both narratives
00:07:13to be deeply satisfying because on one, if Lamal wins and like maybe like he has a game
00:07:18winning moment or something, that feels like fictional prophecy come to life, right?
00:07:23Towards being passed.
00:07:24Like, yeah, like I mean literally from that bathing picture to him growing up to then slaying
00:07:29Messi in his last World Cup in the final, but on the other side, Messi, and we'll get
00:07:35into this in another segment, but his resume is so otherworldly and untouchable that if
00:07:43he were to add a golden boot, which he's on the edge of, we've got to see how the third
00:07:47place game goes, if he adds a golden boot and another World Cup title, he will be, I think
00:07:53objectively, the greatest athlete that we have ever seen since Flavius Corpus.
00:07:58I think he's, he's right there with Jordan and Brady and all, you know, like.
00:08:02Oh, I think he's ahead of him.
00:08:03You think he's for sure ahead?
00:08:04Well, we're going to, we're going to have that debate later in the show.
00:08:08But, but would you agree that if Messi wins and.
00:08:11If Messi wins this one, because that was like the thing heading into the last one, who was
00:08:1535 and it's like, oh, he's never won it.
00:08:17Can he win the, you know, can he win the World Cup?
00:08:19And then he does it.
00:08:20He's obviously the best player in that tournament, has all the big moments in the final.
00:08:24And then it's like, now this was, I don't think anybody really had Argentina.
00:08:29Like, they're always in the mix.
00:08:31But it's like, he does it again at 39?
00:08:34And it's like, it just feels like he can kind of play forever.
00:08:37And it's like, people criticize him for going to the MLS.
00:08:40I think he was just chilling.
00:08:41I think he was just like, everything was in preparation.
00:08:44He's done everything you could do on the other stages.
00:08:45So he gets a ton of money, he goes to the MLS, he lives in Miami.
00:08:49And then now he's like, he's just resting his body.
00:08:52He doesn't have to grind at Champions League and La Liga or the French League.
00:08:57And now he is, everything was about getting ready, gearing up for this tournament.
00:09:01And he is still proven that even when he has left like the center stage of club football,
00:09:07he's, he's the best player in the world.
00:09:09I'm still rooting for Messi for sure.
00:09:10And I also find Spain boring.
00:09:13They're a boring team to watch.
00:09:15They play like a defensive brand of football.
00:09:18Yeah.
00:09:18But if you look at, look at these stats here.
00:09:21And my question to you guys is, as somebody who doesn't know a ton about international soccer,
00:09:27could he keep going in another four years?
00:09:30Because clearly he's still the best player in this tournament.
00:09:33Yeah.
00:09:33Like, could he just pull a Brady and be 43 and still just be ripping these goals and assists
00:09:39and being the best player in the tournament?
00:09:41I think if anyone could do it, it was him.
00:09:44It's him.
00:09:44Because you look at like the stark fall off from Ronaldo, where if you look at highlights
00:09:50of him when he's younger, it's like mesmerizing.
00:09:52The step overs, the speed, the power.
00:09:55Where Messi has always just been about his noggin.
00:09:58Yeah.
00:09:58So, if he's just, I think it's possible that in four years he's still capable of helping
00:10:03a team.
00:10:03Maybe he's not playing a full 90 minutes, but he comes on and does something late.
00:10:08I don't know.
00:10:09I wouldn't rule it out.
00:10:11I can't, like, he doesn't seem like he's bored out there.
00:10:14Like, he's still like, you know, still the best player.
00:10:16He's as excited as we've ever seen him.
00:10:18Yeah.
00:10:18But it's like, will he want to do all the, because you still have to be playing.
00:10:24Right.
00:10:24So, does he want to play in the MLS or wherever for another four years in between now and then?
00:10:30But if, like, the tournament was next year or two years from now, I'd say, yeah, four
00:10:35years might be a little tough.
00:10:37What kind of pisses me off is, well, how does the third place match, like, why do they get
00:10:46to contribute to the Golden Boots?
00:10:47Yeah.
00:10:48I agree with that.
00:10:49No, that's the dumbest thing ever.
00:10:50Like, if you get eliminated.
00:10:51You're out.
00:10:52Yeah.
00:10:52Like, the Argentina and Spain, like, Messi should feel like he has it locked up because they eliminated,
00:10:58or France was eliminated.
00:10:59Yeah.
00:11:00And he would have it locked up because he passed them up with those two assists.
00:11:03I think third place, I think third place.
00:11:05And it really sucks because you're going to have, to your point, you're going to have
00:11:08a devastated England team.
00:11:10Yeah.
00:11:10Right?
00:11:10Right.
00:11:11And a fringe team that wants to send Didier Deshaun out with a win.
00:11:15Yeah.
00:11:15So, like, they have motivation to actually want to play, and Bappe's going to want a
00:11:19Golden Boot, knowing the competitor that he is.
00:11:20So, I'm with you.
00:11:22Because that is the one trophy Messi doesn't have.
00:11:24I'd be a little pissed about him.
00:11:26You're so, uh...
00:11:27Well, it's just like, you wouldn't see the NFC and AFC losers play.
00:11:32That's great.
00:11:33It's true.
00:11:34They wouldn't play.
00:11:35They'd be like, this is the dumbest thing ever.
00:11:37And a lot of the time...
00:11:38Why would we try to get hurt?
00:11:39A lot of the times, guys who haven't played a lot in the tournament, or at all, the coach
00:11:45will throw them in for that third place game and be like, you're in a World Cup.
00:11:48Right.
00:11:49So, it's not like they're both going full go trying to win.
00:11:52No.
00:11:52I feel like I would be so mad if that happened, though.
00:11:54Like, if I'm riding the bench the entire time, we're actually playing for the World Cup,
00:11:59and then I get in for the third place game, and he's like, you know, you got yours.
00:12:03I think I would want to play.
00:12:04I was going to say, I understand it feeling condescending outside looking in.
00:12:08It feels extremely condescending.
00:12:09But at the same time, like, when you reach that level, I feel like you know what the deal is.
00:12:15Like, you know, like, okay, the starter is better than me.
00:12:19Yeah.
00:12:19I put in so much work.
00:12:21Like, it would be nice to get in the field.
00:12:23So, if you were playing, again, back at LSU, you were playing on a third place team.
00:12:27You're not going anywhere.
00:12:28Not playing the game.
00:12:29We need you to get in there and just dominate the training.
00:12:32No, to actually, actually, to your point, I did have a moment like that in my career
00:12:36where, unfortunately, I didn't feel like the starter was better than me.
00:12:39I felt like I was kind of being unjustifiably shuttled to the bench,
00:12:45and then we were, like, blowing out a team, and they, like, put me in at the end.
00:12:47And it was a bad feeling.
00:12:48It demoralizes me.
00:12:50But the stage is a bit different, in my opinion, when you're talking about the World Cup.
00:12:54Right.
00:12:55And so, the stage makes a difference there for me.
00:12:57But now they're not competing for a World Cup anymore.
00:12:58They're competing for third place.
00:13:00It's like a bronze medal game, though.
00:13:02So, remember, like, the last Olympics where Halliburton didn't play at all?
00:13:06If the United States had lost in the semis, and then they're like,
00:13:09hey, you want to play in the bronze medal game?
00:13:11I think he probably would have played.
00:13:13I guess even if you look back in 20 years or whatever, and it's like,
00:13:16okay, we still got third place.
00:13:19You know, like, that's something to write home about.
00:13:22It's better than fourth place.
00:13:25Yeah, it's better than fourth.
00:13:26You're ripped out in the semifinals.
00:13:27They're like, yeah, you got to go out and play for the third place.
00:13:30Yeah.
00:13:30I mean, I don't know what it's.
00:13:31England, I don't understand.
00:13:34They've got to be devastated.
00:13:35Like, this game, again, France at least has the Didier Deshaun thing,
00:13:39and they were just so clearly outclassed by Spain that it wasn't as heartbreaking.
00:13:45They didn't blow it.
00:13:46Like, England blew it.
00:13:48Now, you said Spain was boring.
00:13:50I don't know, dude.
00:13:51I watched a 2-0 shutout, and I was mesmerized with Cucurea and their ability to –
00:13:57I mean, every through ball that France was hitting all tournament long stopped.
00:14:02Like, every – France, every time they were on the ball, getting it ripped away,
00:14:06then they tried to rip it into Spain.
00:14:07That's –
00:14:07The back line passing as France is pressing and expending so much energy.
00:14:12It was – again, I keep going back to this analogy,
00:14:14but it felt like watching prime Floyd Mayweather just dodging –
00:14:18I hate watching Floyd.
00:14:19No, I –
00:14:20Yeah.
00:14:20But there is a beautiful science in it.
00:14:23For sure.
00:14:24And, like, that midfield of Pedri and Rodri and Danny Olmo,
00:14:27where they just kind of move it around and you can't get it off of them
00:14:30and you can't get near them.
00:14:32It is very impressive and effective, but it's, like,
00:14:36I'd rather just watch counterpunching, like, just two teams going at it.
00:14:40And, like, Argentina and England and France,
00:14:43they play, like, a more attractive style.
00:14:45Spain's, obviously, the most effective, but it's just, like,
00:14:48at some point when you pass around for 15, 20 minutes at a clip,
00:14:52it feels like it's just, like, oh, my God, like, do something.
00:14:55He wants to see, like, the Gaethje fight, where they're just, like, back and forth.
00:14:59Like, like, the Battle of Azteca with Mexico and England just throwing hate makers at one another.
00:15:06Fun fact, I have family in Barcelona, so I'm officially rooting for Spain.
00:15:11Oh, look at this guy, dude.
00:15:13My cousins and my aunt, Spain.
00:15:16Which side? Egyptian side?
00:15:17Nope.
00:15:19Barcelona, of course, named after?
00:15:21Barca.
00:15:22Hamilcar Barca, that's right.
00:15:24Hamilcar Barca.
00:15:24Look at that, dude.
00:15:26Hannibal's dad.
00:15:27Hannibal who?
00:15:27Hannibal who?
00:15:28Mikey, did you ever get a ring?
00:15:31Who's Hannibal?
00:15:31Hannibal, he's part of the Genie in general, one of, uh...
00:15:35Why, he didn't win anything?
00:15:36Dude, that guy used to, he invaded Rome with elephants.
00:15:40Yeah, they crossed the Alps with elephants.
00:15:42No, but hold on, we're getting two different...
00:15:43No, Mikey, I asked you because y'all had the Indiana season that was a better season you ever had
00:15:50in school history,
00:15:50so sometimes schools will give a ring for...
00:15:53You do.
00:15:53Huge ring.
00:15:54That's what I'm saying, and you deserve one.
00:15:54Like the playoff ring, but we didn't win it.
00:15:56Yes, you deserve one.
00:15:57That's what I was asking, because this will be the first time, if you win the World Cup, that you
00:16:01get a ring.
00:16:01Wow.
00:16:02They don't do this normally.
00:16:03You should see the rings.
00:16:03I went back.
00:16:04Look at that.
00:16:04I went back to Bloomington, you should see the rings that they got.
00:16:07Yeah.
00:16:08College rings, are they real now in the NIL area, though?
00:16:11Are they real in the NIL era?
00:16:13Because they weren't real in my day.
00:16:14I have a bunch of fake stone rings.
00:16:16You're talking like diamonds?
00:16:16Yeah.
00:16:16No.
00:16:17Okay, no.
00:16:17That's just the NFL.
00:16:18I feel like they missed an opportunity to make the center look like a soccer ball with the diamonds.
00:16:23You know what?
00:16:23In the day and age where rings are getting more and more gaudy and ridiculous,
00:16:27and there's hidden compartments, I like the understated nature of this World Cup ring.
00:16:33It reminds me of something my Italian grandfather would wear on his pinky.
00:16:35That's what I mean.
00:16:36I mean, it's got sort of like, maybe it's just got honesty on the mind,
00:16:40but it's got sort of an august, like, ancient feel where it's not so many honesty.
00:16:45Overwhelming.
00:16:46Yeah, so many.
00:16:47So many.
00:16:49All right.
00:16:50We've got plenty more final talk about it.
00:16:51I still think there's some interesting elements at play going up against one another.
00:16:55But coming up next, do you feel comfortable?
00:16:59Here on Wake of Barsity.
00:17:05Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:17:07So chances are you've maybe headed to the beach this summer,
00:17:09or it's just a hot day, you've been playing outside.
00:17:11The point is, sandwiches shine during summer.
00:17:15And thusly, we have created the Summer Sandwich Series,
00:17:18where we have a four-region bracket of sandwiches going toe-to-toe with one another,
00:17:23and we will declare one the Summer Sandwich King.
00:17:27Look at this.
00:17:28This is one corner of the bracket.
00:17:30This is the breadbasket region.
00:17:32We're going to decide this later on.
00:17:34You can go on the Wake Up Barstool Twitter.
00:17:35Go vote on the poll for the one seed most likely to get upset.
00:17:38How the heck did Baloney sneak in there?
00:17:41It's at 18.
00:17:41It won the play-in.
00:17:42We literally picked it last weekend, Dana.
00:17:44I understand, but I already know all my opinions.
00:17:47Okay, well, let's see.
00:17:48Get Baloney out of here.
00:17:50Are you saying that's Baloney?
00:17:51That is absolute Baloney.
00:17:53Baloney's Baloney.
00:17:54My mom used to say that.
00:17:56We have another new game we're going to play today.
00:17:57This is, do you feel comfortable?
00:18:01And I'm not talking about the way that Megan may feel uncomfortable when Carson Mikes are up in the morning.
00:18:06I more mean, do you feel comfortable with some declarative sports statements?
00:18:11And let's start with this.
00:18:13Do y'all feel comfortable that LeBron is going to make a decision by next week?
00:18:18No.
00:18:19Nope.
00:18:20Why would he?
00:18:21He said yesterday at Fanatics Fest.
00:18:22He's going to not drag this thing out that much longer.
00:18:24Oh, he's going to milk it.
00:18:26He's definitely going to wait until the World Cup is over.
00:18:28Yeah, he's waiting until all eyes are on him.
00:18:30That's what I'm saying.
00:18:31World Cup's going to be over next week, okay?
00:18:33We're on the other side of it.
00:18:35Adam Silver actually saying yesterday that, and this makes sense.
00:18:38Some might roll their eyes at this.
00:18:39But he's saying that, like, where LeBron goes will affect the schedule.
00:18:42So we need him to hurry up and decide so we can get these games ready.
00:18:46Yeah, that makes sense.
00:18:47But, no, it's LeBron.
00:18:49This is what he's done his entire career, his headlines, headlines, headlines.
00:18:53And I'm a LeBron guy, so I'm not exactly, like, making fun of him or anything.
00:18:58It's just he's going to milk it to the last second.
00:19:01And then it's going to be a big show, and it's going to be a retirement tour, and it's going
00:19:05to be a thing.
00:19:06But, no, there's no timetable any time next week.
00:19:10I actually think we may get a decision next week.
00:19:13I think another do you feel comfortable could be do you feel comfortable this is LeBron's last year.
00:19:17Because from some of his comments, when he talked about choosing this next destination, he mentioned years multiple.
00:19:25And he showed up with freshly dyed hair and beard at Fanatics Fest yesterday.
00:19:30I mean, if you look at it, he's still an elite basketball player.
00:19:34Yeah.
00:19:35Like, when he is on, he's still one of the best 15, 10 players in the league.
00:19:39So, yeah, keep going.
00:19:41It's not like Jordan on the Wizards.
00:19:42I'd say he's better than Jordan on the Wizards at this point.
00:19:45Jordan averaged 20 that one year on the Wizards.
00:19:47Quick gut.
00:19:48Where is he going to go?
00:19:49I'm still on Cleveland.
00:19:51Yeah?
00:19:52I think the boring answer is the right answer, Cleveland.
00:19:55But who knows?
00:19:56I mean, it's LeBron.
00:19:57He maybe has one twist left in him.
00:20:00Do you feel comfortable saying that it will never come home and England will never win a World Cup?
00:20:05See ya.
00:20:07Sorry, boys.
00:20:09Another World Cup, I'd say.
00:20:10They did win in 66.
00:20:11Yeah.
00:20:12I think if they get Pep as a manager, then that could change the equation.
00:20:19Because I think Tuchel cost them, yes.
00:20:21I think they're better than Argentina.
00:20:22And then the game plan let them down.
00:20:27But I don't know.
00:20:28It feels like this is their level right now.
00:20:30This is as far as they can go.
00:20:32They've kind of been knocking on the door.
00:20:33If it wasn't going to be this year, I don't know when it's going to be.
00:20:38Has England won anything?
00:20:40No.
00:20:40So that's very famously.
00:20:42No, like not the Euro, not the World Cup.
00:20:451966.
00:20:4566 is the last time.
00:20:47And this recent generation.
00:20:49Two World Wars and one World Cup.
00:20:51What are we talking about, Chief?
00:20:55Rugby?
00:20:56Four semifinals, right?
00:20:57Two Euros.
00:20:58They made a Euro final.
00:20:59They made a Euro final.
00:21:00Badminton.
00:21:01Two World Cup semifinals.
00:21:02Yeah, they lost in pens, I think, to Italy, right?
00:21:07Wasn't that the year they lost on penalties to Italy?
00:21:09Yeah.
00:21:09It was like the COVID 2021 Euro.
00:21:12Don't we say pens?
00:21:13Yeah.
00:21:14Oh, that's cool.
00:21:15I like saying that.
00:21:16They're never going to win.
00:21:17They're never going to win the pens, boys.
00:21:18They're never going to win the Super Bowl.
00:21:19I do think England's going to win eventually.
00:21:21Well, I mean.
00:21:22I don't know if they can get it in before AI ends the world.
00:21:25T-Bub.
00:21:26The World Cup could be in 3,000.
00:21:29We won't be here.
00:21:30They'll probably win in 3,000.
00:21:31You know what I'm saying?
00:21:32Over the history.
00:21:32Well, but again, will we make it then?
00:21:33With like, do we make it in 2040?
00:21:353,000.
00:21:36At that point, AI will have like.
00:21:49Oh my God.
00:21:54Do you feel comfortable saying that Messi is the greatest athlete in sports history?
00:22:00Mmm.
00:22:028th Ballon d'Or.
00:22:03Like when I think of athlete.
00:22:04You don't think of him as an athlete?
00:22:06No, I do.
00:22:07100%.
00:22:08But like, I think of like a decathlete.
00:22:10That's like an athlete.
00:22:12I know what you're saying.
00:22:13Who's your favorite decathlon?
00:22:14But I don't know.
00:22:15But I'm just saying like athlete, like all around.
00:22:18So then frame it a little bit differently in your head.
00:22:19Just think about like how we traditionally do the GOAT, right?
00:22:23The GOAT.
00:22:23The GOAT of all GOATs?
00:22:25The GOAT.
00:22:25Is he the GOAT GOAT?
00:22:27The champ champ.
00:22:29I'm going to be very clear.
00:22:30I don't know why he wouldn't be.
00:22:32You mentioned it.
00:22:32Michael Phelps?
00:22:338th Ballon d'Or.
00:22:34That's, I mean, Ronaldo's second with 5.
00:22:36But even like when they're listing his career accomplishments.
00:22:39He has 3 Champions League.
00:22:41Great.
00:22:41How many times did he win La Liga?
00:22:43I haven't.
00:22:44He won 10 La Liga titles.
00:22:45Like what are we talking about?
00:22:474 Champions Leagues.
00:22:473 FIFA World Cups.
00:22:48He's got 47 trophies.
00:22:50Danny Alves is second all time with 43.
00:22:52But Danny Alves was always a part of great teams.
00:22:54And he was a great, incredible player.
00:22:56But not, he wasn't the guy.
00:22:57If he tosses one of these on top of it too, another World Cup, I mean.
00:23:01And a golden boot, which he's never, which he's the only trophy he doesn't have.
00:23:05Do you think we're hesitant because we're just dumb Americans?
00:23:07Yes.
00:23:08Yeah, but like.
00:23:09100%.
00:23:09I think it's a sign of.
00:23:10I immediately thought of Michael Phelps.
00:23:12So it's a credit.
00:23:13Okay.
00:23:13Actually though, actually though, you might be right actually.
00:23:16That's a very good thing.
00:23:16Like pound for pound?
00:23:17I just, I mean, that's another guy who is really unparalleled in terms of accomplishment.
00:23:23Like he would be up there.
00:23:24Yeah, I think it's.
00:23:25Katie Ledecky?
00:23:26Tom Brady.
00:23:28Gretzky, Jordan.
00:23:30Of American athletes?
00:23:31Messi, Brady.
00:23:33Oh, you're ranking.
00:23:35Not in order.
00:23:35But I think Phelps has to be in there.
00:23:37Mount Rushmore?
00:23:38Sure.
00:23:39That would be my Mount Rushmore, those four.
00:23:40Again, you need to look up Flavius Corpus, guys.
00:23:43I mean, if you're not looking up Flavius, I don't know what.
00:23:45How many are we going to get?
00:23:46Is that five?
00:23:47That's like the sound of time, bro.
00:23:48Do you feel comfortable saying Notre Dame will go 12-0 with this schedule?
00:23:53Yeah.
00:23:54That's crazy.
00:23:55Dude, look how bad it is.
00:23:56I don't care.
00:23:56That's crazy.
00:23:57That's the worst schedule I've ever seen.
00:23:58Chief, when's the last time Notre Dame went 12-0?
00:24:00Uh, they went 12-0 in 2012.
00:24:03Miami.
00:24:04That's at home and it's in the cold.
00:24:06This is the individual's schedule.
00:24:09Wait, they went 12-0 in 2012?
00:24:10Yeah.
00:24:11Belichick.
00:24:11They lost to Alabama.
00:24:12Don't sleep on Belichick.
00:24:14Going to conference, Chief.
00:24:15Chapel Hill.
00:24:16Why do you care if they're in a conference?
00:24:17Watch them be 11-0.
00:24:18This is so soft.
00:24:20Yeah, but like next year they've got Alabama.
00:24:22Oh, their two Big Ten teams are Wisconsin and Purdue.
00:24:25And Michigan State.
00:24:27And Michigan State.
00:24:28I know you know how this works.
00:24:30They scheduled Wisconsin 10 years ago.
00:24:32I'll say this.
00:24:33Notre Dame normally does schedule hard.
00:24:35They do.
00:24:35This is an outlier.
00:24:37This is an outlier, I would argue.
00:24:38Don't sleep on my Eagles.
00:24:39That said, they're going to trip up somewhere here.
00:24:42Why?
00:24:43Absolutely.
00:24:43Because not just them.
00:24:45Everybody always does.
00:24:46In college football, we always think we know.
00:24:47There's one team that didn't.
00:24:49We always think we know who's going to win, right?
00:24:51We just know.
00:24:52And then we are constantly proven wrong.
00:24:54Notre Dame.
00:24:55And so I'm just betting the odds here.
00:24:57Notre Dame's the best team in America this year.
00:24:59Schedule aside.
00:25:00They will be.
00:25:01You're smirking.
00:25:02No, they.
00:25:03Because I know.
00:25:04They're smirking.
00:25:04I say it every year.
00:25:05This year it's actually true.
00:25:07You can't say it with a straight face.
00:25:08This year it's actually true.
00:25:09Yeah, you lost two first round running backs, but you're going to be the best team in America.
00:25:12Did you bump your head when you got out of bed this morning?
00:25:14Sure.
00:25:14Good question.
00:25:15I'll remember this.
00:25:16Clip this.
00:25:17Yes, clip it, please.
00:25:17Notre Dame.
00:25:18Yes.
00:25:19Undefeated.
00:25:19I think they're the second Vegas favorite to win the national championship.
00:25:23It could be one of the obvious ones, like at BYU.
00:25:26If they got to the natty, the door's blown off of them.
00:25:29No, they didn't.
00:25:30I said, if they were this year with this schedule.
00:25:33They have no.
00:25:34I don't do that.
00:25:35You're college football people, not respecting CJ Carr and that defense that's coming back.
00:25:39I don't respect Notre Dame in the general sense.
00:25:41I actually do.
00:25:43I think they could win the national championship.
00:25:45I'm just saying I don't think they're going to go undefeated.
00:25:46They're going to trip up somewhere and it's going to be unexpected and everybody's going
00:25:49to be like, oh, they suck.
00:25:50And then they're going to bounce back.
00:25:52We see this rhythm a lot and they'll probably equip themselves as well.
00:25:54To be fair, I was raised to hate Notre Dame.
00:25:56Yeah.
00:25:57Yeah.
00:25:57I get that too.
00:25:58All right.
00:25:58Do you feel comfortable with MLB teams using AI in the dugout?
00:26:04So the MLB has now passed a new rule where they're making teams dial it back because apparently
00:26:09teams are using all sort of generative AIs that they had built that were calling pitches
00:26:15cheap, calling for subs.
00:26:17The managers were becoming full on iPad kids, leaving all of their decision making to the
00:26:23robots.
00:26:24And I get it.
00:26:25An AI probably can call pitches better than a human, which is why we got to get it the
00:26:30hell out of here too.
00:26:31I feel like it just takes away from the game.
00:26:32Yes.
00:26:33The romantic essence of baseball is now when computers, it's kind of tough.
00:26:39We need more vibes.
00:26:40Yeah.
00:26:40What happened to the old days, man, with a paper and just a piece of paper.
00:26:44Exactly.
00:26:44You go out there, you write down your lineup and say, get in, get out.
00:26:47Yeah.
00:26:47Rip a bottle.
00:26:48My dad would rip the book.
00:26:50Oh, I love, love books.
00:26:52He would just fight the other team and just do the book.
00:26:55So we're like, oh, this is a good rule.
00:26:57This is a good move by the MLB.
00:26:59No.
00:26:59No.
00:27:00No, to take AI out of it.
00:27:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:02Get it out.
00:27:02Yeah, all right.
00:27:04Aaron Schatz talking a little fantasy football, getting you ready for your upcoming season
00:27:07next on Wake Up Barstool.
00:27:16Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:27:18It's time to talk some American football with a man who's been talking American football
00:27:24for a very long time.
00:27:25In fact, one of the OG nerds when it comes to American football.
00:27:30That's our guy, Aaron Schatz.
00:27:31That's FTN Fantasy is where you can catch his fantasy football almanac, which is already
00:27:37out right now.
00:27:37You can also get it on Amazon.
00:27:39This is the man who invented DVOA.
00:27:41Aaron, what's up?
00:27:42How are we doing today?
00:27:43Hey, I'm good, man.
00:27:44I'm psyched.
00:27:45Made it through the offseason.
00:27:46Got the book all done.
00:27:47I'm ready for some football.
00:27:48I've enjoyed the World Cup.
00:27:50Yeah.
00:27:50I'm ready for some NFL.
00:27:51Let's go.
00:27:51All right, so real quick, as a precursor to all of this, because DVOA is something that
00:27:58a lot of people have leaned on for a very long time.
00:28:01Give us a quick explanation on what exactly DVOA is.
00:28:06Yeah, we measure the success of every play in the NFL.
00:28:10We compare it to a league average baseline that is adjusted for situation and opponent.
00:28:15Better than zero means good offense.
00:28:18Worse than zero means good defense.
00:28:21And so, again, guys, so, like, to me, the real hook of it has always been that it takes
00:28:26into account, like you said, situation play, but especially the quality of the opponent,
00:28:30right?
00:28:30So it measures who you're having success against when we try to predict these things.
00:28:35Let's start very broad here, Aaron, because a lot, one of my favorite games is sitting
00:28:39there and looking at a schedule and being like, oh, that's hard or that's easy, but
00:28:44we never really know, right?
00:28:45These teams change so much year to year.
00:28:47So from a preview standpoint, how do you establish what you think is going to happen?
00:28:55The trick is that you have to look at who the teams are this year, not who they were
00:28:59last year.
00:29:00Because it's true that if you do schedule strength based on last year's win-loss records,
00:29:05you know, quarterbacks have changed teams and players have gotten injured or gotten healthier.
00:29:09So you can do a much better job by looking at, like, who's coming back for different teams.
00:29:14So, for example, we know that the Chargers look like they have a particularly tough schedule.
00:29:19You know, the NFC West teams all have tough schedules because they have to play each other.
00:29:23The AFC North teams have easy schedules because they get to play the NFC South.
00:29:28NFC South still looks pretty easy.
00:29:31What about, now let's start getting into some specific teams.
00:29:35Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, last year falls apart.
00:29:39Mahomes gets hurt.
00:29:41Strong in some areas.
00:29:42Maybe don't have the skill positions.
00:29:44How are you measuring this Kansas City Chiefs team?
00:29:46Do they bounce back into Super Bowl contention and conversation?
00:29:50If Mahomes is healthy, then yes.
00:29:53They were, I think, fifth in DVOA when Mahomes went out.
00:29:56So even though they were losing a lot of close games, they were still really good in the underlying statistics.
00:30:02Then Mahomes went out and they were messing around with Chris Alutakon and whatever, that they were terrible.
00:30:07But it sort of depends on, do we see Justin Fields?
00:30:11How much Justin Fields do we see?
00:30:13If Mahomes is back in week one, this team should be really good.
00:30:18Oh, I love watching these football highlights.
00:30:20I know.
00:30:21It absolutely just used that.
00:30:22The question is, can Mahomes do that stuff?
00:30:24Will he be healthy enough to do that stuff where he runs around crazy and throws from a strange arm
00:30:30angle and just makes things happen?
00:30:32Aaron, I'm a Steelers fan.
00:30:35You know, obviously Coach McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers played with each other 14 years ago or something like that.
00:30:43How do you kind of measure Coach McCarthy coming to Pittsburgh, Aaron being their older veteran?
00:30:50How do you measure that kind of culture and how they're going to be this year?
00:30:54I mean, you don't measure the culture when you're someone like me.
00:30:58That's why we put words in the book next to the numbers is to talk about things like culture.
00:31:04The numbers just look and go, this is a 42-year-old quarterback who wasn't very good last year, so
00:31:08he's probably not going to be very good again this year.
00:31:11And there isn't, you know, McCarthy's done pretty well in the past, but there isn't a particular record of him
00:31:16raising teams way beyond what they would have been otherwise.
00:31:19So we're not particularly high on the Steelers this year.
00:31:22I apologize for that.
00:31:24The Bengals should come back.
00:31:25The Ravens should come back.
00:31:27So they're tough in their division.
00:31:28Obviously, the worst team in football is in their division.
00:31:31So that's two wins.
00:31:33But otherwise, yeah, we're not too high.
00:31:35How about the New England Patriots?
00:31:38Now, I hail from Massachusetts, so this is an interesting one for me, obviously coming off the Super Bowl loss
00:31:44where they weren't even close to competing with the Seahawks.
00:31:47How does A.J. Brown fit in here in terms of just analytically adding to this offense?
00:31:53I feel you.
00:31:54I'm coming at you from Worcester right now.
00:31:55There you go.
00:31:57And they had the fourth easiest schedule last year since 1977.
00:32:03Oh, yeah.
00:32:03It was really easy.
00:32:05Like, all year long, I felt like I was waving my hands going, oh, this is so much fun.
00:32:10They're not that good.
00:32:11They're really not that good.
00:32:13But they're good.
00:32:14And Brown makes them better.
00:32:15So the thing is underlying, they should be a little bit better team than they were last year.
00:32:20But now they're going to be playing an average schedule instead of an absurdly easy schedule.
00:32:25And we think that the Bills will rebound a little bit.
00:32:28But this is another one where it helps the division that they're in because we're not sure the Dolphins are
00:32:33even trying.
00:32:35And the Jets should be better on defense, but their offense looks lousy.
00:32:39So the schedule, here's the thing.
00:32:41They're not going from an easy schedule to a hard schedule.
00:32:45They're going from an easy schedule to an average schedule.
00:32:49Yeah.
00:32:49Life is good in the AFC.
00:32:51So you're saying they could be a better team with a worse record?
00:32:54Yeah, they could be a better team.
00:32:56And they're almost entirely – I mean, you're not going to go 14-3 again.
00:33:00Even if you're really good, you don't go 14-3 or two straight years.
00:33:03For sure.
00:33:04Aaron, a segue from talking about the Patriots all the way down to the Miami Dolphins.
00:33:09Who are some teams that are going to be surprising people, both good and bad?
00:33:15The funny thing is I think the biggest surprise team is the Arizona Cardinals because they're not the worst team
00:33:21in the league.
00:33:22I mean, they're bad, but they were actually 23rd last year as the most injured team in the league.
00:33:28And I think their Vegas over-under is like 3.5, and they're going to beat that even though they
00:33:34have the hardest projected schedule.
00:33:36The other one I'm really riding is the Houston Texans.
00:33:38That is my AFC Super Bowl pick.
00:33:41We know how good their defense is.
00:33:43Their offense, C.J. Stroud last year in the regular season, was good.
00:33:48I know he was terrible in the playoffs.
00:33:51I know he was horrible in the playoffs.
00:33:52But he was good in the regular season, and they have an actual running game this year.
00:33:57And the offensive line should be better.
00:33:58And Tank Dell should be back.
00:34:00And Nico Collins should be healthy.
00:34:02This can be an above-average offense.
00:34:04And if you put it with that defense with Will Anderson and Stingley and those guys, that is the best
00:34:09team in the AFC.
00:34:11So you don't think that C.J. Stroud is going to take a step back.
00:34:14We talked about this the other last week on the show, or maybe two weeks ago.
00:34:18You know, if we thought he could replicate or even take a step forward.
00:34:22So what is your thoughts on just C.J. Stroud and the upcoming season?
00:34:27My general belief is these guys, when you get to the level of a major league professional athlete, your confidence
00:34:33is through the roof.
00:34:34And if you have a bad game or two, you usually shake it off.
00:34:38And I don't think he's going to come into this year going, oh, my God, I folded in the playoffs.
00:34:42It turns out I suck.
00:34:43And then he's going to go out there and play down to that.
00:34:46I think he's going to go out there and be like, I'm awesome.
00:34:49I'm going to prove people wrong.
00:34:50And he's going to play like he's always played, which is like the 12th best quarterback in the league, which,
00:34:56again, when you put it with that defense, is a really good team.
00:35:00Yeah, I mean, that's the Seahawks from last year, right?
00:35:02Yeah, basically.
00:35:03That's exactly what they did.
00:35:05What about this?
00:35:06I'm going to ask this in a vague sense, and I'm going to be interested to see if it lands
00:35:10where I'm thinking it's going to land.
00:35:12You mentioned the objectivity of numbers.
00:35:14When you're predicting these divisions, which division is most hard to decipher just by looking at the raw data?
00:35:23The NFC North.
00:35:24Okay, that was going to be the exact question.
00:35:27So, I mean, how do you make sense of that?
00:35:28Because you could make a case for every single team.
00:35:31Because we have the Lions really good, but I will admit that the thing that my projection system has the
00:35:37hardest time with is offensive line changes.
00:35:40And they're making offensive line changes in Detroit.
00:35:42And Minnesota, we have down, but I think that our system is wrong because I don't think it understands how
00:35:49good a defensive coordinator Brian Flores is.
00:35:51And the Packers, it's hard to know because you don't know when Micah Parsons is coming back.
00:35:56And the Bears have the most interesting projection of every team in the NFL because they project to be the
00:36:02second offense and the 32nd defense.
00:36:06So, it's a really interesting division.
00:36:09So, elaborate on that.
00:36:13They made a lot of changes.
00:36:15They made a lot of changes.
00:36:16Second year with Ben Johnson.
00:36:17We don't think losing DJ Moore is a big deal.
00:36:20On defense, oh my God, all the red flags go off.
00:36:23So many turnovers last year.
00:36:25That is going to regress.
00:36:26So good on third down last year.
00:36:28That is going to regress.
00:36:30The amount of talent that they lost in the offseason.
00:36:32Yes, they added some guys like the safety from Seattle and Tiananmen and everything.
00:36:38The pass rush is a problem.
00:36:40They lost Kevin Byard, was an all-pro safety.
00:36:42Just all the red flags go off on their defense.
00:36:46All right.
00:36:46Well, I didn't love hearing that.
00:36:48But that was going to kind of be my question about the Bears in general because it felt like they
00:36:53had the spectacular both on offense and defense.
00:36:56And they also had extreme lows even on offense as well.
00:37:00So, what did your model – how does it – is it just the losses that you're talking about?
00:37:06Because I look at it as like –
00:37:07No, it looks at the guys they've gained too.
00:37:09Caleb Williams was a good quarterback who's a number one pick in his second year.
00:37:14When you have that, you expect that guy's going to get better in his third year.
00:37:17When you're in the second year of the system with a good head coach, you expect they're going to get
00:37:22better in the second year in the system.
00:37:24Like I said, the variable we use for talent doesn't think they lost a lot with D.J. Moore.
00:37:30So, it really likes the offense.
00:37:33Like, really, really likes the offense and then really hates the defense.
00:37:37And you put them together and you get a team that wins like nine games.
00:37:40How do you factor in rookies coming in?
00:37:43Because if you're talking about the Bears specifically, they take Dylan Thienemann and it's like – and they sign Kobe
00:37:49Bryant.
00:37:49So, it's like your secondary – maybe you do have a good rookie that can step in.
00:37:55Gene, give it up, dude.
00:37:56No, no, no, no.
00:37:57You're 32.
00:37:58I hate math and numbers.
00:38:01I know.
00:38:02Fight him on this.
00:38:03But the offense – loves the offense.
00:38:05Loves the offense.
00:38:05Listen, we don't – I don't pretend that the system is scouting who was like a bust and who was
00:38:13like a steal.
00:38:13In general, you can predict the quality of defensive rookies and what they do to your team more than offensive
00:38:22rookies.
00:38:23Offensive rookies, it's more like sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad.
00:38:26Defensive rookies, in general, help your defense.
00:38:29So, the system likes when you take rookies, defensive rookies in the first couple rounds.
00:38:34And the Bears did and teams like the Jets did.
00:38:36We think the Jets' defense will be better.
00:38:39And, you know, teams that took a lot of rookie defenders in the first and second round.
00:38:44Aaron, classic sports talk question to close us out here.
00:38:47Super Bowl prediction.
00:38:49Give us your matchup.
00:38:50You mentioned the Texans.
00:38:51What do you think?
00:38:52The surprise is that even after Miles Garrett, the system likes Seattle.
00:38:57Damn.
00:38:57But I personally am going Rams.
00:39:00I'm going Rams over Texans.
00:39:02We have those three teams higher than the rest of the league.
00:39:05And I would say I like the Rams, especially if Donald comes back.
00:39:09Okay, that's what I was going to say.
00:39:10Do you think if Donald did rejoin with the system, do you think the numbers would go?
00:39:15Okay, that would push them over the top.
00:39:16Yes, that would push the Rams ahead of the Seahawks.
00:39:18But I think even without that, the Seahawks feel to me like they might be a little bit
00:39:23like the 91 Redskins, a team that didn't have that many stars, but everything came together
00:39:29for them to be completely awesome for one year.
00:39:32But it was just one year.
00:39:34I wonder if the Seahawks might be like that a little bit.
00:39:37So I like the Rams over the Texans.
00:39:39That is my Super Bowl pick.
00:39:40All right.
00:39:41Aaron Chucks, ftnfantasy.com, guys.
00:39:45The godfather, creator of DVOA.
00:39:48He's been doing this thing for a quarter of a century.
00:39:50One of the OG NFL nerds.
00:39:53And again, go check out the Fantasy Football Almanac.
00:39:55Get on Amazon.
00:39:56Get on the website.
00:39:57Aaron, thank you so much for your time this morning, man.
00:39:59Thanks for having me on, guys.
00:40:00Thanks for your insight.
00:40:01Ooh, chief.
00:40:03I don't buy it.
00:40:04I need to see.
00:40:06He needs a new algorithm.
00:40:0830 seconds.
00:40:10What up, y'all?
00:40:11Welcome back.
00:40:12This is Wake Up Arsenal, hour number two.
00:40:14It's Friday.
00:40:15We do Smasher Pass every Friday.
00:40:17But given that it's the summer, we wanted to grow this thing a little bit,
00:40:21do something a little bit differently.
00:40:22So we have gotten together 32 of your favorite sandwiches in the entire world.
00:40:29We have created a bracket.
00:40:31We have created odds.
00:40:33In fact, this might be the first time we've used AI for anything,
00:40:35which I think is fairly innocuous.
00:40:37Talking about creating these odds and whatnot.
00:40:39So let's go ahead and look at them here.
00:40:40We're going to break down one region today.
00:40:43This is a summer sandwich series.
00:40:45But this is the entire field on these two pages.
00:40:48Philly cheesesteak coming in as the number one overall seed, plus 350.
00:40:53I was actually not expecting that at all.
00:40:55Look at Poe Boy.
00:40:56Y'all were trying to crap on Poe Boy.
00:40:58Right?
00:40:58I saw that.
00:40:58Look at Poe Boy, dude.
00:40:59Unbelievable.
00:40:59I'm going to tell you right now, Poe Boy is not winning this tournament.
00:41:02Not even close.
00:41:03It might not win, but it will win my heart.
00:41:05Yeah.
00:41:05No culture in the East.
00:41:07No culture.
00:41:08It's creepy.
00:41:08They don't even know Flavius Scorpus.
00:41:10So, like, I don't know what to tell you guys.
00:41:12That's number nine.
00:41:13I know Roman literature.
00:41:15That's the ninth.
00:41:16All right.
00:41:17What is Flavius Scorpus?
00:41:19What was his job?
00:41:20What did he do?
00:41:20He was the greatest athlete in the history of Rome.
00:41:24Yeah, he was.
00:41:24Actually, I guess I've said myself something.
00:41:26He was a gladiator.
00:41:27He was a gladiator.
00:41:29Wow.
00:41:29Carrioteer.
00:41:30Meatball sub, plus 6,000.
00:41:32I think that's got some movement there, dude.
00:41:34Turkey club at plus 10,000.
00:41:36Euro is at plus, what is that, 150,000?
00:41:39150,000.
00:41:41What?
00:41:41Also, come on, Soppy Joe's better than 85.
00:41:45And also, how do you put a PB&J, like, or was that a peanut butter?
00:41:50Yeah.
00:41:50PB&J over any of those that is underneath it.
00:41:54Great value with a French dip at 65.
00:41:56Chicken cutlet is very low, too.
00:41:58Oh, yeah, chicken cutlet is low.
00:42:00All right.
00:42:00Let's go ahead and so we had a poll question up earlier.
00:42:04We had the four one seeds up, and we asked you to vote on who is most likely to get
00:42:09upset.
00:42:09Oh, these are the top four seeds of this year.
00:42:11Actually, you know what?
00:42:12I agree.
00:42:13I agree as well.
00:42:14I'm going to get into this.
00:42:15I'm going to get into this a little bit.
00:42:16Well, let's go ahead and get into the bracket thing, guys.
00:42:18Okay.
00:42:19So this is the breadbasket region.
00:42:21We're going to choose winners all the way through here.
00:42:23All right.
00:42:24Okay?
00:42:25Three out of five majority vote rules.
00:42:28Shout out ancient Greece for doing democracy.
00:42:30And we'll start with the one seed, the Deli Italian going up against the classic bologna.
00:42:35I mean, come on, guys.
00:42:37This is a blowout.
00:42:37This is an absolute bloodbath.
00:42:39We might as well just ask bologna forever.
00:42:43Oh, oh, oh.
00:42:44What?
00:42:44No, no, no.
00:42:45Never mind.
00:42:45It is a place for a bologna sandwich.
00:42:47Yeah, but this is an absolute spanking.
00:42:48If you're a four-year-old.
00:42:50Deli Italian is going to just swamp bologna every time.
00:42:53We'll say a fried bologna sandwich is pretty good with some mayo.
00:42:56It's incredible.
00:42:57But.
00:42:57Some of you said for the simple things in life.
00:42:59But the layers in the, in the, in the.
00:43:01Are you more likely to make a bologna or a Deli Italian at home?
00:43:05Deli Italian.
00:43:05Yeah.
00:43:06At home?
00:43:07Which one would you pay for?
00:43:08No, I'd pay for the deli.
00:43:09Yeah.
00:43:09I just, I just don't want to, I just don't want to crap all over bologna here is my only
00:43:13point.
00:43:13Obviously, Deli Italian wins.
00:43:14We're not capping on it.
00:43:16We picked it last week.
00:43:17They had a good run to get here.
00:43:18Yeah.
00:43:19I just want to give them their lovely.
00:43:20Can I ask a question for production?
00:43:21Yep.
00:43:23Is there on this, I don't know, all 32, is there a Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving leftover sandwich?
00:43:31No.
00:43:31No.
00:43:32Whoa.
00:43:33Thank you for bringing the show to an arresting halt, Mikey.
00:43:36I'm going to drop the ball.
00:43:37We'll need to ask a question that we already knew the answer to.
00:43:39Okay.
00:43:40The four seed.
00:43:41The meatball.
00:43:42The meatball.
00:43:43This is a big four or five here, guys.
00:43:45It is.
00:43:45Meatball sub versus grilled cheese.
00:43:47I mean, meatball sub has to take this.
00:43:50Oh, no, no, no, no.
00:43:52I'm with you, Meg.
00:43:53No, no, no.
00:43:54I love meatball sub.
00:43:55I'm with you.
00:43:56Meatball sub for me as well.
00:43:57Nice toasted bread, garlic butter, lots of like provolone.
00:44:01Oh.
00:44:01Like just, oh, and some pesto even.
00:44:03Maybe spice it up.
00:44:04Something I, something I learned about moving here to Chicago, Jardinera meatball sub.
00:44:10Yeah.
00:44:10Really?
00:44:10Nine out of ten.
00:44:12Okay.
00:44:12Absolutely love it.
00:44:13I have a question that will determine my winner.
00:44:15Okay.
00:44:16Is this a straight up cheese and bread or is it like a grill?
00:44:21Like, can you throw some other stuff in there?
00:44:23Well, I don't, no meat.
00:44:25It's bacon or something.
00:44:26No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:44:27It's a grilled cheese.
00:44:28No meat, but you can't, it can't be like the pinnacle of grilled cheese.
00:44:32It can be like five cheese.
00:44:33You know, it can be like a really nice grilled cheese with a stick.
00:44:36Yeah.
00:44:36A little buffalo mozzarella.
00:44:37I feel like if you're having grilled cheese, though, you need to have like a tomato soup or like a
00:44:41soup with it.
00:44:42Like a grilled cheese by itself.
00:44:43I'm going to need like three of them.
00:44:44I think I'd rather just have meatballs on their own.
00:44:46When you put it in the sub, it gets a little messy.
00:44:49Yeah, this one, this one's hard for me.
00:44:50Whenever it's like first like brought out to you and the bread has the integrity and you're just.
00:44:54Oh, it's so hot and the meatball just kind of melts in your mouth.
00:44:57Yeah.
00:44:57I'm taking grilled cheese.
00:44:59Okay.
00:44:59I love a grilled cheese.
00:45:00I've probably had that sandwich more than any sandwich on this list.
00:45:04And I love meatballs, but I like them as like a side.
00:45:08Kadek, give your pick.
00:45:08Come on, Kadek.
00:45:09No, Kadek think, Dana, where are you at?
00:45:11I want to be the tiebreaker because you know what?
00:45:14No, I have my answer.
00:45:15It's a meatball sub.
00:45:16Yeah.
00:45:16Okay.
00:45:17Talk to me a little bit more about this Jardin there.
00:45:18Does that, does that replace the red sauce or?
00:45:21No.
00:45:22No, it's just kind of.
00:45:22In addition to.
00:45:23It's a added layer.
00:45:24Oh, it's really hard.
00:45:26Oh, it's so good.
00:45:27I kind of love the meatball sub now.
00:45:29Well, to your point, Dana, that was bad.
00:45:31I'm going grilled cheese.
00:45:32That was bad show running by me because you would have been the tiebreaker.
00:45:36That's on me.
00:45:36But there we go.
00:45:36No, not the first upset.
00:45:39The four barely takes it in a buzzer beater.
00:45:42Meatball sub.
00:45:43That was a tough one.
00:45:44That was really hard for me.
00:45:45Great matchup.
00:45:47Three, six, Cuban versus roast beef.
00:45:48Cuban.
00:45:49It's just like a classic roast beef.
00:45:51Like, not like a hot roast beef.
00:45:52Like, I think it's got to be classic.
00:45:55Yeah, it's a cold roast beef.
00:45:55Yeah, I'm going to go Cuban on this.
00:45:56Cuban.
00:45:56Yeah, it's a nice through butter, man.
00:45:58Give me the cubes.
00:45:59Cubes.
00:45:59Cubans, it's a strong three.
00:46:01I mean, it's a strong three.
00:46:02Especially if you have a good, like the good Cuban bread.
00:46:04I was just about to say, the bread is the star in the Cuban, though.
00:46:07You got to get that right.
00:46:09And a lot of places ignore it or they don't.
00:46:11And then a Reuben versus Sloppy Joe.
00:46:13I mean, I'll be clear.
00:46:14This is Sloppy Joe by a mile.
00:46:16I also agree, Sloppy Joe.
00:46:17I will eat 18 Sloppy Joe's when I make them.
00:46:21They are unbelievably good.
00:46:23And they're so good, like whenever, because you don't have them for a very long time, it
00:46:27feels like.
00:46:28And then whenever you do finally have a Sloppy Joe after, like, a year, you're like, oh my
00:46:31God, I forgot this existed.
00:46:33So sweet.
00:46:34So good.
00:46:34They're so good.
00:46:35Really good.
00:46:35It's honestly so disrespectful.
00:46:38To a Reuben?
00:46:39Reuben's are fine.
00:46:40Reuben's are great.
00:46:41Reuben's are good.
00:46:41But Sloppy Joe's are better.
00:46:43No, Reuben clears this.
00:46:44Yeah, I got Reuben each.
00:46:46Yeah, it's going to be Cuban versus Reuben.
00:46:48All right, wait, wait, wait.
00:46:49So wait, wait.
00:46:49Oh, so you voted.
00:46:51Cuban versus Reuben.
00:46:51Oh, because Dana was the title.
00:46:52Wow.
00:46:53That's not even close.
00:46:54Mikey, I thought you were going to come for Sloppy Joe here.
00:46:56I love a Sloppy Joe, but Reuben's are, it's just all class.
00:47:00The rye bread.
00:47:01It's all class.
00:47:01I think my person, I think that's where I'm at.
00:47:03The Swiss cheese, the sauerkraut.
00:47:05This is like a...
00:47:06Kidding me?
00:47:07You kidding?
00:47:07What's this even...
00:47:08Chalk across the board.
00:47:09What's this even a conversation?
00:47:10We had a great chance for Sloppy Joe to create our first upset, and you are a coward.
00:47:15Sloppy Joe's great bar in Key West, Florida.
00:47:18You look, you know, you are.
00:47:19No, yeah.
00:47:20What?
00:47:20Sloppy Bob?
00:47:21Yeah, I'll run to your...
00:47:23Okay, relax.
00:47:24I've been gaining a little weight lately, and now you're making me feel uncomfortable.
00:47:27And I'm constantly gassing you up about losing weight.
00:47:29You know what?
00:47:29You look fat.
00:47:30Whoa!
00:47:32The 1-4.
00:47:32I was going to say, we went...
00:47:34All the Sloppy Joe's went to your...
00:47:35What the heck?
00:47:37Okay, the 1-4.
00:47:38That's screwed up, because I was going to say it all went to your huge ass.
00:47:42That is nice.
00:47:42That's a compliment.
00:47:43Huge...
00:47:44Jackman.
00:47:451-4.
00:47:45Deli Italian.
00:47:46Meatball sub.
00:47:47I'm going meatball sub again.
00:47:49I love a deli Italian, but for me personally, in my life, meatball sub is meant more.
00:47:54So, I'm going to go ahead and say, since this is a summer sandwich series, I'm going to
00:47:59go deli Italian, because it's cold.
00:48:01I agree with you.
00:48:02I think we're all on the same page here.
00:48:04Yeah.
00:48:04I agree with you.
00:48:05That's a great point, Megan.
00:48:07This is a sweep.
00:48:08Sweep.
00:48:08Oh, I completely blew this.
00:48:10I forgot about our Vegas views that AI cooked up here.
00:48:14But on the deli Italian sub, here's...
00:48:17And this is what it's matching up with bologna.
00:48:18Still the biggest blood on paper.
00:48:20Bologna relies on nostalgia, but the Italian sub's deep rotation of salami, capicola, and
00:48:26provolone...
00:48:27Capicola.
00:48:27...will cover...
00:48:28Gabo-hoo!
00:48:28...the spread by lunchtime.
00:48:31There you go.
00:48:31Are there tomatoes on these?
00:48:33There can be.
00:48:35Yeah.
00:48:35I don't want them.
00:48:35I don't like them on mine.
00:48:36It makes the bread soggy.
00:48:37So hungry.
00:48:38Get them out.
00:48:39Pepper and cheese, though?
00:48:40Yes, please.
00:48:41Meatball sub versus grilled cheese.
00:48:42It was a true clash of styles.
00:48:44The public is hammering grilled cheese as a live dog, but odds makers favor the physical
00:48:49heavy presence of the meatball sub.
00:48:52So unfortunately, the heavy presence wasn't enough to make it through the deli Italian.
00:48:57All right.
00:48:58Next up, Cuban Ruben.
00:48:59Cuban versus Ruben.
00:49:00I'm going to go Cuban.
00:49:01I just...
00:49:01Again, I'm not big on rye or sauerkraut.
00:49:03Like, I like Ruben's, but I like Cuben's a little bit better.
00:49:06Yep.
00:49:07Well said.
00:49:07I'm with Meg.
00:49:08We're in lockstep right now, Meg.
00:49:09Yeah.
00:49:10I'm Cuban.
00:49:11I'm also going Cuban.
00:49:12All right.
00:49:13Let's go.
00:49:13No!
00:49:14Let's go!
00:49:15The Cubans' roster chemistry makes them tough to beat.
00:49:19This is tough.
00:49:20The Ruben's structured execution on rye will methodically pick them apart.
00:49:25Yeah.
00:49:26Guys, don't do this.
00:49:27It's Ruben stuttered, and unfortunately, T-Bob is going to be the tie vote that puts Cuban ahead.
00:49:32He doesn't even have a vote!
00:49:34Uh, let's see.
00:49:36Who was...
00:49:36I would have upset Ruben over at Deli Italian.
00:49:39Who was the old owner of the Mavericks?
00:49:41Mark Cuban.
00:49:42There we go!
00:49:43Cuban!
00:49:44Moving on!
00:49:45First upset!
00:49:46Not happy.
00:49:47Sorry, Mark.
00:49:47Look, cute.
00:49:48Mark is an Indiana alum.
00:49:50You know?
00:49:50There you go.
00:49:52This is Vegas V on Sloppy Joe's.
00:49:53Sloppy Joe's defense is completely non-existent.
00:49:57Fantastic.
00:49:57Now Deli Italian clears.
00:49:59I would have given Ruben the nod.
00:50:01Not over the Deli Italian.
00:50:02AI called Roast Beef a steady, reliable veteran that lacks the explosivity upside to pull off the upset.
00:50:09It's true.
00:50:09It's true.
00:50:10All right.
00:50:11Now, the final for the breadbasket region of our summer sandwich series, Deli Italian vs. Cuban.
00:50:18Again, it's going to be hot vs. cold for the summer series, and I've got to go with the cold
00:50:22sandwich and the duck.
00:50:22Now, I am...
00:50:23So, production is telling me that this is technically not just a, like, summer series.
00:50:30But that's the name.
00:50:31But that is in the name.
00:50:32Yeah, we're not...
00:50:33So, like, that's kind of on there.
00:50:34Production can...
00:50:35We're doing it in the summer, but these sandwiches exist independently of time of year.
00:50:40If it's freezing outside, like, I'm going to go with a hot sandwich over a cold sandwich, but if I'm
00:50:45at the beach or if I'm at the concrete beach, I'm going to have a Deli Italian.
00:50:49So, let's say it's a consistent 70 in this.
00:50:52We're in San Diego here.
00:50:54Where are we going?
00:50:54Then it'll just depend on my mood, T-Bob.
00:50:56What I'm hungry for.
00:50:57Well, look, I mean, you said it was going to come to, you know, Sacred Cows here.
00:51:01It was always going to be good against good.
00:51:02I'm going Deli Italian.
00:51:04You can mix it up a little bit more than a Cuban.
00:51:06I'm also going Deli Italian.
00:51:08We're not far from Grand Avenue.
00:51:10That is Sandwich Row here in Chicago.
00:51:12Many places with a great Italian.
00:51:15It's going to lose, but I'm going Cubes.
00:51:17I'm sticking with the Cubes, dude.
00:51:18I'm going Ruben.
00:51:20Get over it.
00:51:21It's over.
00:51:23Ruben Italian.
00:51:23I'll go with the Italian.
00:51:24Put me down for Italian.
00:51:26All right, Deli Italian.
00:51:27The one seed rolls through.
00:51:29Unbelievable.
00:51:30One seed.
00:51:31Congratulations, Deli Italian.
00:51:32You have made the final four of the inaugural Summer Sandwich Series.
00:51:38The Triple S.
00:51:41I've never seen you so disappointed.
00:51:42Next week, we have the deep fryer and smoke region.
00:51:44Mikey, why are you so sad?
00:51:45Because I have so much passion for a Ruben,
00:51:48and I would have upset the Ruben over the Italian.
00:51:51Well, I had so much passion for a Sloppy Joe.
00:51:54I love Sloppy Joes.
00:51:56I mean, again, I got called fat.
00:51:57I wonder if they'll have one at the game.
00:51:58You called me fat first.
00:51:59No, I didn't.
00:52:00I said you have a huge ass.
00:52:01I mean, that's kind.
00:52:03Yeah.
00:52:03Maybe I'd jump.
00:52:04I think my own insecurities caused me to lash out.
00:52:06Not beating the allegations.
00:52:07So you keep looking at my face,
00:52:08and I feel like, God, you look so fat.
00:52:09Not beating the allegations.
00:52:11Anyway.
00:52:13NFL.
00:52:13Off-season wheel coming up next.
00:52:14Plus, Aaron Donald returns?
00:52:24Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool, guys.
00:52:26So, the NFL.
00:52:27Right around the corner.
00:52:28We're going to talk to Aaron Schatz earlier.
00:52:30That was great.
00:52:30Got me all frisky and in the mood.
00:52:33And we talked about Super Bowl favorites.
00:52:35The Rams.
00:52:36The odds-on favorite in Vegas right now.
00:52:39And there are some reports that are circulating
00:52:42that would potentially improve their odds even more, I would say.
00:52:47Rap Sheet yesterday saying that there is a real possibility
00:52:51that Aaron Donald makes his return to the Los Angeles Rams.
00:52:56We all know he's still jacked and working out.
00:52:59Yeah.
00:52:59He is apparently now starting to explore more, like,
00:53:03kind of football-based workouts to see if it feels like he's got his body ready.
00:53:06If he does join, he ain't going to do training camp.
00:53:09Right?
00:53:10So, like, it'll be after that.
00:53:11It might even be, like, partway through the season.
00:53:13But, Michael, could you imagine having to plot a defensive line with Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald?
00:53:20I don't even know how you go about game planning for this.
00:53:24I think you give up.
00:53:25No, I think you literally just lay down.
00:53:27And then you're like, all right, on to next week.
00:53:29Or, I mean, I think the best thing is you just all hold hands and just pray for the best.
00:53:32I just bench my quarterback.
00:53:34Yeah.
00:53:34You bench your quarterback.
00:53:35We've got to keep him safe this week.
00:53:36Let's just give a bye.
00:53:38Because when it was just Aaron Donald, you could utilize the three-man slide every time to him.
00:53:42Yep, yep.
00:53:43But now what?
00:53:44Now with Miles Garrett, you have to three-man slide to him.
00:53:48And then you leave Aaron Donald on an island with the left guard.
00:53:51And then they are absolutely screwed.
00:53:53And they still got, like, Byron Young, right?
00:53:55Like, they still, like, they got other good D linemen as well.
00:53:58And I was watching a Gray Zabel, who is an O-lineman for the Seahawks, talk about the other defensive
00:54:04linemen for the Rams.
00:54:05And he was like, yeah, they are so hard to block.
00:54:08The guy just picks me up and throws me.
00:54:11And now they're adding Miles Garrett and possibly Aaron Donald.
00:54:14It is a death sentence for everyone in the NFL.
00:54:17How old is Aaron Donald now?
00:54:18That was my question.
00:54:19Maybe 36?
00:54:2035, I think.
00:54:21He's not old.
00:54:22He could still get after him.
00:54:23Yeah, they still got Braden Fiske and Kobe Turner as well.
00:54:27No, the Rams are an absolute wagon.
00:54:30And if they get better by adding Donald, I think they could be close to, like, plus 300.
00:54:36I mean, you'd have to do eight-man pass protection.
00:54:40Yeah, I don't even know.
00:54:41But, again, I don't know.
00:54:42I don't know that that'll get it done.
00:54:44Because, like, you go eight-man protection.
00:54:46Okay, what?
00:54:47You're sending two guys out on routes.
00:54:49The quarterback won't have anywhere to throw the ball.
00:54:51He's not going to be able to get rid of it.
00:54:52They're just going to be getting pressure with your front.
00:54:54You're cooked.
00:54:55You're going to try to run the ball.
00:54:56I mean, like, okay, so if you were trying to, okay, how do you beat that defense?
00:55:02First off, uh...
00:55:03Duo.
00:55:04Yeah, you would have to somehow have the majority of your success running the ball.
00:55:09Right.
00:55:10Because not only would that take away from some of their strength, but it would control the clock.
00:55:14But then on the other side of the ball, what?
00:55:15You've got to shut down Matt Stafford and Nakua and Devontae Adams?
00:55:18What's duo?
00:55:19Duo is like a man scheme where it's mainly you utilize your double teams with two tight ends, usually.
00:55:26So that would take care of Miles Garrett on a double team with a tight end, which is risky because
00:55:33tight ends are obviously not as good as a blocker, as an offensive lineman.
00:55:37But then you have the double team between a center and a guard against Donald.
00:55:41But then it opens up gaps with the linebacker.
00:55:45It's just, they're dead.
00:55:48Don't play.
00:55:48Just don't play.
00:55:49Don't try.
00:55:51I mean, the only real threat to the Rams, and I hesitate to say this because I'm not trying to
00:55:56put anything out there, but it would just be Stafford's age.
00:55:58Yeah.
00:55:59And a potential injury.
00:56:00But even then, this defense is so overwhelming that they could feel like the Texans and, like, still be great
00:56:05with average quarterback plays.
00:56:07So, the rich potentially going to get richer.
00:56:10If he were to join, you would have, just between Donald and Garrett, you'd have a combined 236 and a
00:56:17half career sacks,
00:56:17five defensive players of the year awards, and 17 Pro Bowls.
00:56:21That's insane.
00:56:22Heaven.
00:56:22It's been the wheel.
00:56:23Heaven.
00:56:24Jeez.
00:56:25It's the NFL topic wheel, guys.
00:56:27It's going to let us know what to talk about.
00:56:31Was a chance.
00:56:32The Buffalo Bills was a chance.
00:56:35No, no, no.
00:56:36Was a change in head coach and DJ Moore enough?
00:56:40I hope.
00:56:41Yeah.
00:56:42I really want to see Josh Allen win.
00:56:44Like, I love him.
00:56:45He's so fun to watch.
00:56:48Yeah.
00:56:49I hope so.
00:56:50No, I don't think it is.
00:56:51I still think DJ is probably their best receiver.
00:56:53He's probably the closest thing to one he's had recently.
00:56:59I think this is the year they at least get there.
00:57:02Sure.
00:57:03I mean, my problem is I don't like none of those changes really do anything for me.
00:57:09Like, the manner in which the head coaching change happened was so maybe illogical or kind
00:57:18of messy.
00:57:19It was reactive.
00:57:21That's what it was.
00:57:21This didn't seem like a very strategic, smart, like proactive.
00:57:24No, we've always been playing this.
00:57:25Like, when Bishotti got out there with the Ravens and he moves on from Harbaugh, I thought
00:57:29he at least...
00:57:31Kind of seemed like a lateral move.
00:57:33Yeah.
00:57:34Like, I don't know what Joe Brady is head coach.
00:57:36Change for the sake of change.
00:57:37Or lateral.
00:57:37Like, what does Joe Brady have that Sean McDermott doesn't as a head coach?
00:57:41So, no, the head coaching change actually does nothing for me.
00:57:44It's not to say the Bills can't get it done because they're always close.
00:57:46So, maybe they can.
00:57:47But I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt just because of these changes here.
00:57:51I would say, I mean, I think they still are probably the best team in the AFC.
00:57:58So, yeah, I think they have a chance to make it to the Super Bowl, but you've still got
00:58:01to get over Mahomes and Burrow and Lamar and Drake May at this point.
00:58:06So, the list of quarterbacks is growing.
00:58:09Somebody go ahead and text Dave that Dana thinks that the Bills are going to win the division
00:58:12over the Patriots.
00:58:13I didn't say that.
00:58:13I said they could.
00:58:14You said best team in the AFC.
00:58:16I said they could.
00:58:16Best team in the AFC.
00:58:18Mark it down.
00:58:18I said that the best team in the AFC doesn't always make it to the Super Bowl.
00:58:21How about that?
00:58:22To be fair, look at your odds here.
00:58:24It would support your assertions.
00:58:27It is surprising to me that the Ravens are kind of consistently getting so much love just
00:58:31because of the coaching change there.
00:58:32I wanted to go against something in the earlier segment with the Texans.
00:58:37Listen, analytics are great.
00:58:38Numbers are great.
00:58:40You can look at all the numbers you want.
00:58:41I'm an eyeballs guy.
00:58:43Yeah.
00:58:43TJ Stroud is not good.
00:58:44Correct.
00:58:45Okay, the numbers might have said he played good last year.
00:58:50He's not a good quarterback.
00:58:52He's not a quarterback that can win a Super Bowl.
00:58:55That defense can carry them to a Super Bowl, but Cedar Stroud is not a good quarterback.
00:58:59Nobody clipped that, by the way.
00:59:01Don't click that.
00:59:02He is a bad quarterback.
00:59:04So you don't think he can be Sam Darnold?
00:59:06No.
00:59:07No.
00:59:08Okay.
00:59:08But could he just exist and not turn the ball over?
00:59:11No, he can't.
00:59:12Can he be a neutral?
00:59:13He can't.
00:59:15Okay, then they're screwed.
00:59:17But, yeah, I think the AFC has four or five teams that could realistically make it.
00:59:23And who saw the Patriots making it last year?
00:59:25So maybe there's a dark horse.
00:59:26Who knows?
00:59:26Yeah, who will have the fourth season schedule since 1970?
00:59:29That's a good question.
00:59:30Probably.
00:59:31Explore that.
00:59:31Probably, yeah.
00:59:32Still counts as a Super Bowl.
00:59:33No, now that is one thing that Aaron said that he's spot on.
00:59:35Aaron Rodgers was not good last year.
00:59:37Don't give me the stats.
00:59:38No, he wasn't.
00:59:39Don't give me the middling wins.
00:59:40He didn't push the ball downfield at all.
00:59:42He was so conservative.
00:59:43Dean!
00:59:44Anemic.
00:59:45Let's spin it again.
00:59:46Dean's up.
00:59:47Spin it.
00:59:48Spin it.
00:59:49I love his snap count.
00:59:50I wish I played center for him.
00:59:51He has an incredible snap count.
00:59:53First balance there.
00:59:57Newo's...
00:59:57One day we're going to get...
00:59:58Same Sam Darnold.
01:00:01Same Sam Darnold.
01:00:03Yeah, dude.
01:00:03I'm done doubting Sam Darnold.
01:00:04Incredible weapons around him.
01:00:06If we're still going to doubt him now, then we are being...
01:00:10Like, that's bad faith arguments.
01:00:12I agree.
01:00:12Yeah.
01:00:13What are we talking about?
01:00:13Offensive line could improve, but the weapons around him, JSN, my boy, the barn show.
01:00:19The barn.
01:00:20The barn show.
01:00:21I love the barn.
01:00:22I love the boys, dude.
01:00:23Yeah, they're going to be just fine.
01:00:25The barn show.
01:00:26No more Kenneth Walker.
01:00:30Kubiak was great.
01:00:32But we saw Sam Darnold do it two years in a row.
01:00:36Like, granted, going from Minnesota to Seattle, the defense put him over the top all the way
01:00:40to the Super Bowl, but he was great in Minnesota until he completely choked down the stretch
01:00:44of those last three games, so...
01:00:45They won 14 games, though, didn't they?
01:00:47Yeah, no, I know.
01:00:48That's what I'm saying.
01:00:48But he just lost.
01:00:49I mean, I understand Vikings fans as to why they got rid of Darnold, just because the
01:00:54ending was the culmination of all their insecurities and fears.
01:00:57They got nine.
01:00:58But two different...
01:00:59Yeah, and they had nine, right?
01:00:59But, like, two different settings, two different teams, two different coaches, yeah, he's
01:01:03going to survive Clint Kubiak moving on.
01:01:06All right, let's spin it again.
01:01:07One more.
01:01:07Spin it!
01:01:09Spin it!
01:01:10It rip!
01:01:11Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck.
01:01:12It rip!
01:01:13Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck, Tyler Shuck.
01:01:16Oh, my God.
01:01:17Oh, you asked him to do that.
01:01:19Go, go, go, go, go!
01:01:21Oh, no!
01:01:23Oh, no!
01:01:26I love Tyler Shuck, though.
01:01:27Well, did y'all see Tyler Shuck the other day, though, dude?
01:01:30I love him.
01:01:30For the record, he was on this show with us.
01:01:32Respect the wheel.
01:01:32Really cool.
01:01:33I know.
01:01:33You're right.
01:01:34Respect the wheel.
01:01:34That's a good call, Chief.
01:01:35You headed me off.
01:01:36You knew what I was about to do.
01:01:37I love Tyler Shuck.
01:01:37All right.
01:01:39Will Justin Herbert win a playoff game?
01:01:41Yes.
01:01:42Yes?
01:01:42Yes.
01:01:43We just went through the whole AFC and how hard it is.
01:01:45Don't care.
01:01:46Yes.
01:01:47I think, yeah.
01:01:48Yeah, I think the charge is going to be really good.
01:01:49His offensive line is abysmal.
01:01:52It's the Madison Beer Effect.
01:01:52Are they still abysmal, though?
01:01:54If Joe All can stay healthy, I hope to God he can.
01:01:58But last year, man.
01:02:00It's him and the Northwestern.
01:02:02Ken Jack would send me clips every single week.
01:02:05What happened here?
01:02:06What happened here?
01:02:07And I'm like.
01:02:08They suck.
01:02:08Okay, week three to ten is god-awful here.
01:02:14At Bills, at Seahawks, versus Broncos, at Chiefs, get a bye, collect your bones off the
01:02:22ground, then go to L.A., then home versus the Rams, then at Baltimore.
01:02:28That is, my God.
01:02:31What did he say?
01:02:32Home versus the Rams.
01:02:33That is.
01:02:34Then you got a bye week, week 11.
01:02:36Then you got the Patriots.
01:02:37Oh.
01:02:37But, but.
01:02:40So, yeah, they are going to be hitting the road in the playoffs.
01:02:41Madison Beer.
01:02:44The thing is, though, I believe.
01:02:45Rocket.
01:02:46I believe in Harbaugh.
01:02:48Beer's a rocket.
01:02:49I believe in Harbaugh.
01:02:51I believe in Harbaugh.
01:02:52Beer's a rocket.
01:02:53I love Mike McDaniel as the OC.
01:02:57Yeah.
01:02:57He should be able to get something going there.
01:03:00Beer's a rocket.
01:03:01Beer's a rocket.
01:03:03Yeah, I'm going to say against all odds, yes.
01:03:07The Chargers are going to play.
01:03:08Because they'll be battle-tested.
01:03:10Hypothetically.
01:03:10Like, they'll have played a lot.
01:03:11I don't even know if they're getting in with that.
01:03:12So, again, but if they do make the playoffs and get to that schedule, that means they beat
01:03:15a lot of playoff teams to get there.
01:03:17Hypothetically, Kadic, if you ever had a girlfriend in your life.
01:03:20Which he has not.
01:03:22To be clear on national TV.
01:03:23Never had one.
01:03:24Never had one.
01:03:24Never had one.
01:03:25If you ever had a girlfriend in your life.
01:03:27Thanks, T-Bob.
01:03:27Or in the future and you were playing a football game, would you play harder and better for
01:03:33Madison Beer if she was your girlfriend?
01:03:36You kidding me?
01:03:36Exactly.
01:03:38If any, let me make this clear.
01:03:40If any girl, there's been one girl in my career that has went to the game because I invited
01:03:44her.
01:03:45You probably played out of your mind.
01:03:46Played out of my mind.
01:03:48Well, that's Justin Herbert this year.
01:03:51One time in my 18 years of playing football, one girl came to my game and I played out
01:03:56of my mind.
01:03:57Also, I was like getting into scrums.
01:04:00If Megan Fox or Ella Langley happened to be watching, Kadic would love to be your boyfriend.
01:04:05Yes, Megan Fox.
01:04:06I love you so much.
01:04:07I love your Instagram story that you just posted.
01:04:09Greg Berhalter, join the show next.
01:04:11I go to the World Cup Final.
01:04:18Woohoo!
01:04:18You're going to be so hyped, dude.
01:04:19And who better talk about it than our guy, coach Greg Berhalter, a player legend, coaching
01:04:25legend, Chicago Fire head coach.
01:04:28Real quick on the fire coach, Assign Lewandowski.
01:04:30Incredible job.
01:04:31A multi-year process.
01:04:32The debut's going to be yesterday and then Canadian wildfires smoke it out.
01:04:36It's a bummer.
01:04:37Who would have known, right?
01:04:38Oh my gosh.
01:04:39Crazy situation.
01:04:40But, you know, there was going to be an amazing fan support at the stadium.
01:04:44I think 40,000 plus.
01:04:46So we'll just have to run it back next week.
01:04:48Yeah, next team's going to be July 22nd at Miami and then the return home, I believe.
01:04:53Is that correct?
01:04:54Then we have New York City away and then we have return home August 1st against Charlotte.
01:04:58Okay.
01:04:59Mark the calendars if you're in Chicago, guys.
01:05:01August 1st.
01:05:02Lewandowski.
01:05:03It's going to be incredible.
01:05:04Let's talk about Sunday because this tournament has been incredible.
01:05:07I'm going to start with Argentina here, Coach.
01:05:10Give me the coaching perspective on how Argentina has somehow managed to consistently create these late game heroics.
01:05:20Yeah.
01:05:20And, you know, that's where it has nothing to do with coaching.
01:05:22It's just pure heart and emotion.
01:05:24You see the Argentines.
01:05:26They'll die for their country.
01:05:27They'll die in the jersey that they're wearing.
01:05:29And, you know, the game against England was a perfect example.
01:05:32At the end of the game, England puts a 6'7 defender up to win headers.
01:05:37He didn't win one header against these, you know, 5'10 Argentines.
01:05:41It just shows how much heart and emotion they play with.
01:05:44And they have the best player in the world in Messi.
01:05:47What did you make of Tuchel's tactics at the end of that game from a coaching perspective?
01:05:52Where they bring in all the defensive subs and they just kind of say, hey, come at us.
01:05:56Yeah, so there's a couple weird things to that.
01:05:59The first thing is they get a – Argentina gets a big chance right before the hydration break, right, where
01:06:05the header Pickford makes the great save.
01:06:07So then they come over and Tuchel wants to make adjustments.
01:06:10And they have three minutes in the hydration break.
01:06:12But when they come out, it's the same thing, really.
01:06:15They made a slight adjustment but no better executing.
01:06:18You know, they couldn't get numbers wide to prevent the crosses.
01:06:21And it was, you know, just a really poor execution by the players.
01:06:25The tactic, you know, in itself wasn't so bad.
01:06:28I would have liked to see some fast wingers on and maybe take Harry Kane out and put on a
01:06:32fast forward to counterattack.
01:06:33But, you know, it's just really poor execution by the team.
01:06:37Coach, looking forward to Sunday.
01:06:41Who is more important to their team, the young prince in Lamin, Yamal, or the old veteran in Messi?
01:06:49Without a question, it's Messi.
01:06:51You know, Spain has done it.
01:06:53Credit to them.
01:06:54They've done it without, you know, superstar performance from, you mean, Lamal.
01:06:58He's been good, but he hasn't been amazing.
01:07:01Messi's been amazing.
01:07:02You know, his goal and assist contributions have been off the charts this World Cup.
01:07:07And Spain plays a team game.
01:07:09So it's going to be a really interesting dynamic how this team type of game goes up against the emotion
01:07:15and the physicality of Argentina.
01:07:17Well, and you mentioned Spain, Coach, and I was completely, I know a lot of people accuse me of being
01:07:21boring.
01:07:22I was completely enthralled by the Spanish masterpiece that was beating France 2-0.
01:07:28Their ability to win the ball, to stay on the ball.
01:07:31It was beautiful.
01:07:32It was like a sweet science at times.
01:07:34But you have that very almost machine-like success going up against the intangibles of Argentina and their insane ability
01:07:43to create at the end.
01:07:45How do you score that?
01:07:46Who has the advantage there?
01:07:49You know, I picked both semifinal matches, and I got them both wrong.
01:07:54So I'm absolutely the worst person to ask.
01:07:57I'm not the guy to ask.
01:07:58But one thing I'll tell you is that Spain's performance against France was probably the best performance of any team
01:08:04in the World Cup.
01:08:05Just dominant performance.
01:08:07Up until the 85th minute, you know, France had a .18 XG, which is really, really low.
01:08:13Yeah, I mean, it's just, it was dominant against their attacking threats that they have.
01:08:17But I'm really interested to see this game.
01:08:20You know, I can't call it because you can't count Argentina out.
01:08:24I would think Spain is going to give them problems because they'll keep the ball much better than England did.
01:08:29So, you know, if I had to guess, I would say Spain's going to win the game.
01:08:33One more question about this matchup.
01:08:36So before you came on, we were talking about how Argentina really doesn't look like they start playing until that,
01:08:42like, 70th minute.
01:08:44Why do you think that is and, you know, what do you think is going to happen against Spain?
01:08:49Do you think they're going to turn it on in that last, you know, that last little margin?
01:08:51Or do you think we're going to see a full game out of Argentina?
01:08:55You know, they play.
01:08:56They just don't, they don't score.
01:08:58And if you think about this, against England, what they did early in the game was really establish themselves as
01:09:07the aggressor.
01:09:08Think how many fouls and think how physical of a game it was.
01:09:10And that was their plan.
01:09:12I mean, that wasn't undesigned.
01:09:14You know, they had a clear game plan to say, okay, we're going to take it to England.
01:09:18We're going to play physical.
01:09:19We're going to turn it into a wild game.
01:09:22And then the result of that was England at the end of the game had no more energy.
01:09:28They had nothing left in them.
01:09:29So Argentina is playing a game within a game every time they step on the field.
01:09:35Coach, real quick before we move on, I want to talk a little bit about the USMNT and some other
01:09:39hypotheticals to begin with, too.
01:09:40But real quick, and maybe I missed a second, one of the answers, but give us a winner from Sunday.
01:09:45I know you said you're the last person to ask, but who do you think ends up lifting that trophy?
01:09:49No, I'm going with Spain.
01:09:51Okay.
01:09:51You know, they won the Euros.
01:09:53They're undefeated in how many games?
01:09:5437.
01:09:55I think, yeah.
01:09:56So Spain's going to win.
01:09:57You got the stats.
01:09:59Yeah.
01:09:59It's the same.
01:10:0037 in a row.
01:10:01All right, I want to ask you a hypothetical.
01:10:03This was a debate that was raging on yesterday's show.
01:10:06As a coach, would you rather lose in the manner that the US did or in the manner that England
01:10:12did?
01:10:16What round are you losing?
01:10:18Rounds don't matter.
01:10:19So this is round agnostic.
01:10:22It's just a manner of which you get knocked out of a tournament.
01:10:28Well, I mean, listen, when you boil it down, they're both not going to be happy with the performance when
01:10:33they're getting eliminated.
01:10:35So what I would say is I would rather get eliminated being proud of our performance.
01:10:40And I don't think either team did that.
01:10:42Oh, wow.
01:10:43Okay.
01:10:44Okay, then neither answer.
01:10:46I didn't even know that was an option.
01:10:47Damn it.
01:10:48And he played, coach.
01:10:49Well, well maneuvered.
01:10:51Going back to the thing with Argentina, how they kind of bullied England early.
01:10:54Is that something that's missing from the American program now?
01:10:57I feel like we had a little bit of that kind of in your generation and maybe the Donovan generation
01:11:03after that, the Donovan Dempseys,
01:11:05where it felt like, especially against Belgium, we just didn't have that bite to our game.
01:11:10Is that something that's missing from this group?
01:11:13And how do you add that if you're Pochettino or whoever is the coach going forward?
01:11:18You know, I don't think it's necessarily missing.
01:11:20I think if you look at all the other games besides the Belgium game, we're physically dominating.
01:11:25I mean, I remember talking about Paraguay in the first game.
01:11:28We overran them.
01:11:29It was, you know, shock and awe.
01:11:31They had no idea what was happening in the game.
01:11:33I think the Belgium game, again, was just a one-off, really, really poor performance.
01:11:38And it's unfortunate because it's when we needed it the most.
01:11:42But, you know, physicality, when we think about Holland, when we played Holland in the last World Cup, we were
01:11:46all over Holland.
01:11:47We were, you know, we were running them into the ground.
01:11:49When we played England in the last World Cup, we were running them into the ground.
01:11:53So, physicality we have.
01:11:54You know, I just don't have a reason or understanding why we just didn't have a great game against Belton.
01:12:01Yeah, I mean, you know, it's humans.
01:12:03It's all the variables that come along with it.
01:12:05And some days you just go out and it's absolutely not your day.
01:12:10What did you make of Flo Balagan saying that he believes that the red card and the reversal therein maybe
01:12:19kind of threw his teammates for a loop a bit heading into that game?
01:12:25I think it definitely had an effect on the game.
01:12:28And I think we talked about this before.
01:12:30But the two reasons why is it gave Belgium a different set of motivation, right?
01:12:36It gave them this, you know, us against the world motivation.
01:12:41And then it created a little bit of uncertainty within the U.S. camp of, like, who's going to play
01:12:46and then we get this guy back.
01:12:48And, you know, so, you know, I think it had an effect on the team, but not something that you
01:12:53can't come back from.
01:12:55And then what about this?
01:12:57There's been so much talk about youth soccer in America.
01:13:01It's a bit expensive, like, instead of being subsidized, maybe, like, in other countries where it's, like, lower barriers of
01:13:08entry.
01:13:08I know right now they're in talks to extend Pochettino.
01:13:11And they're also in talks about maybe trying to create a new system.
01:13:15As someone who, I mean, you came up in it.
01:13:18You raised a son in it to the highest level.
01:13:20What do you think needs to happen so they can capitalize off what was a very successful World Cup until
01:13:26the end?
01:13:28So I think at the high levels of youth development, we're doing a good job.
01:13:31But we're not, the net isn't wide enough.
01:13:35You know, we need to cast the net that we get, you know, players from inner cities, underserved communities wanting
01:13:40to play soccer.
01:13:42We need, in my opinion, you know, the biggest gap is the experience from nine and under.
01:13:49Because generally, you know, you have a coach that, you know, didn't play soccer.
01:13:53You're playing in some type of recreation setup where the structure's not clear enough for you to develop.
01:13:59And I think if we can start to get that right, really the young ages, get players interested in soccer,
01:14:06get them developed, get them playing soccer the right way,
01:14:09I think we'll have huge gains moving forward when they get older.
01:14:14Coach, what about this third place game, which is not devoid of stakes, given that, like, Mbappe could win the
01:14:21goal to boot with it.
01:14:22Messi's never won.
01:14:23It's the only trophy he doesn't have.
01:14:25I mean, Didier Deshaun's last game, England's heartbroken.
01:14:29How would you approach this game from the two sides?
01:14:32You know, unfortunately, you have two massive soccer nations in the third place game.
01:14:37If you have a smaller team that has motivation to win and get third place in the World Cup, it
01:14:41can be exciting.
01:14:42But these guys are going to be mailing this game in.
01:14:45Mailing the game in.
01:14:47It's in Miami.
01:14:48It's going to be hot as hell.
01:14:50You know, they're going to be thinking about getting on the plane and getting back to their country and going
01:14:54on vacation.
01:14:56Coach, we were talking a little bit about this earlier in the show, but how about Messi?
01:15:00Is there a chance that he, even if they win or lose this cup, is there a chance he comes
01:15:06back in another four years and plays another World Cup?
01:15:10Listen, anything is possible with Messi.
01:15:13You know, I highly doubt it.
01:15:15It would be very unlikely.
01:15:17I mean, he would be, how old would he be then?
01:15:1943.
01:15:19You know, 40.
01:15:21Two?
01:15:2143.
01:15:22Yeah, 43.
01:15:23I mean, listen, anything's possible with him.
01:15:25He's a freak of nature.
01:15:27But, you know, if you win two World Cups in a row, that's a good time to say goodbye.
01:15:31Now, let's go full sports talk here, Coach.
01:15:36Let's do it.
01:15:37If Messi wins again, let's say everything happens.
01:15:40He wins the Golden Boot.
01:15:41He wins the second World Cup.
01:15:42Are we talking about the greatest modern athlete, regardless of sports?
01:15:47The GOAT GOAT.
01:15:49Better than MJ, better than Brady, better than everybody?
01:15:53That's a great question.
01:15:54I mean, you have to put him in the conversation up there with Brady, MJ.
01:15:58Who else?
01:15:59Gretzky.
01:16:00Who else?
01:16:01Gretzky.
01:16:01Who else you add into the list?
01:16:02Gretzky.
01:16:03Phelps.
01:16:04Phelps should be in there.
01:16:05Has to.
01:16:07I mean, yeah.
01:16:09It would certainly elevate him to a level that not many people have seen.
01:16:13I think one thing that's unappreciated, too, like, production just said LeBron in my ear.
01:16:18It's like, Messi did this in the shadow of Maradona, too, with that specter hanging over his head this entire
01:16:24time.
01:16:25And for him to manage to live up to it and break through, it's really unbelievable.
01:16:28What about that one guy from Rome?
01:16:30Flavius Corpus.
01:16:31Yeah.
01:16:31One of the most successful charity years of all time.
01:16:33Over 2,000 career wins.
01:16:36His winnings were the modern equivalent of 15 to 20 billion dollars.
01:16:39I mean, if we're going to do that, should we throw, like, Secretariat in there?
01:16:42Actually, yes.
01:16:43Wow.
01:16:43Secretariat, that's a great call, Meg.
01:16:46Unparalleled.
01:16:46Nobody.
01:16:47I mean, we're 50 years later.
01:16:48Nobody's touched Secretariat.
01:16:50Coach Berhalter, thank you so much for joining us.
01:16:52Thank you, Coach.
01:16:53It's been a real pleasure to get to have you on so much.
01:16:55Thank you for the time.
01:16:57And go fire, baby.
01:16:58Go fire.
01:16:58Let's go.
01:16:59Zingernoggle.
01:16:59Let's go.
01:17:00Fire up.
01:17:01Fire up.
01:17:03Lewandowski.
01:17:03Fired up.
01:17:04In Chicago.
01:17:06Chicago.
01:17:07Closing out the show next.
01:17:08Let's head into the weekend, guys.
01:17:11Pierce.
01:17:11Pierce.
01:17:12Pierce.
01:17:12Pierce.
01:17:12Spirer.
01:17:13Spirer.
01:17:14Okay.
01:17:14I thought.
01:17:15Spirer.
01:17:15Spirer.
01:17:16Spirer.
01:17:16Spirer.
01:17:17Spirer.
01:17:17Spirer.
01:17:18Spirer.
01:17:18Spirer.
01:17:18Spirer.
01:17:20Spirer.
01:17:21What's happening to y'all?
01:17:22Welcome back to Wake Up Our Stool.
01:17:24We're closing out the hour to allow me a little time, guys.
01:17:28So I'm the only one that saw the Odyssey here?
01:17:30Yeah.
01:17:31Yeah.
01:17:31It's a fantastic movie, Scott.
01:17:33It is a two thumbs up.
01:17:34That's 11.
01:17:35Full-throated recommendation.
01:17:37It's Nolan at the height of his powers.
01:17:41It's wonderfully, I would describe it as wonderfully paradoxical at every single level, right?
01:17:49The most ancient of stories with the most modern filmmaking techniques and guys that are completely in their bags.
01:17:58You have a character in Odysseus that is both a hero and villain and goes through a lot of learning
01:18:05along his journeys.
01:18:07You have...
01:18:09Who are the sirens?
01:18:11The feeling of it.
01:18:12It's like it is both somehow at once.
01:18:15It's very like fantastical and like epic in scale.
01:18:19But it's also somehow feels like real and intimate.
01:18:24It's just wonderful.
01:18:25It's wonderful.
01:18:26The sound design, bro.
01:18:28Nolan cranks it up.
01:18:30It transports you.
01:18:31I want to see it again.
01:18:32I might pay for babysitters again.
01:18:34Oh.
01:18:34Which is crazy in the age of three kids to double up on a movie.
01:18:37So I can't recommend it enough.
01:18:39You got to pay per kid?
01:18:39What?
01:18:40You got to pay per kid?
01:18:42No.
01:18:42No?
01:18:43Flat rate.
01:18:43Flat rate.
01:18:44Flat rate.
01:18:44Now additional kids, you might bump up that flat rate, but it's not like a one-to-one like...
01:18:48All right.
01:18:49If you're paying $15 an hour, another kid doesn't make it $30 an hour.
01:18:52Should we give a review on beers?
01:18:55Yeah.
01:18:56Best beer for this afternoon.
01:18:58What's the best style beer?
01:19:00Whatever he just did for a minute, just talking about beer.
01:19:02I don't know.
01:19:03So I'm just going to be drinking a lot of beers and eating a lot of hot dogs.
01:19:07Can we agree that beers and plastic cups are elite?
01:19:11I actually...
01:19:12Hmm.
01:19:13I've been thinking about this a lot.
01:19:14I know it's terrible for the environment.
01:19:16A styrofoam cup is the ideal drinking cup.
01:19:19I like that for my sodas, but for a beer, I like a good plastic cup.
01:19:22Beer is not styrofoam.
01:19:23I'll take beer out of styrofoam, and I still love it.
01:19:25I rocked a superior cup.
01:19:27I was just about to say.
01:19:28A superior margarita cup all 4th of July weekend.
01:19:31I threw every bit of alcohol and water in there.
01:19:34Icy mug.
01:19:35Yeah.
01:19:36Icy mug.
01:19:37For a beer?
01:19:38Yeah, you probably.
01:19:38I'm saying, I guess, like sporting events.
01:19:40That's like I want it in a nice plastic cup.
01:19:44I want like a giant baseball bat.
01:19:46No.
01:19:46You just kind of drink it fast, because I hate when it just starts to get a little warm.
01:19:51Well, you don't have a problem with not drinking it fast.
01:19:53No, I mean, no problem with that.
01:19:54Well, maybe he does.
01:19:56Could we run the tape?
01:19:58Oh.
01:19:58I beat Kadic in a chugging contest when the U.S. beat Bosnia.
01:20:02Yeah, you remember that one?
01:20:03Is that true?
01:20:04Forgot about that?
01:20:05Oh, you forgot about that, Mikey?
01:20:06Oh, yeah.
01:20:07Half a beer.
01:20:08Is that right, Dan?
01:20:08Half a beer.
01:20:09Is that right, Dan?
01:20:09Okay, that's what I thought.
01:20:10Just when he was yelling in your ear all day.
01:20:12The old guy's still got it, Mikey.
01:20:14This guy's a joke.
01:20:15Hey!
01:20:17Oh, no, not again.
01:20:19Anything else for T-Bomb?
01:20:22This whole show.
01:20:25Can't chug.
01:20:25Die alone.
01:20:27Never had a girlfriend.
01:20:30I'm...
01:20:31Not as good as chugging.
01:20:33Look, I...
01:20:34No, no, no.
01:20:35You have something pent up right now against me, and I don't really like it.
01:20:39Because I'm jealous of you.
01:20:41You're young.
01:20:42Yeah, here we go.
01:20:43You're good-looking, you have your whole life ahead of you.
01:20:46You're licking toes on wedding dance floors.
01:20:50Oh, God.
01:20:51It's just everything you could ever want to be.
01:20:55You've got to stop telling them things about your life.
01:20:57This is on the Big Boys Club podcast, to be clear.
01:20:59I'm not doxing any information.
01:21:01Every Wednesday.
01:21:02It wasn't any feet.
01:21:03It was good feet.
01:21:04It was good feet.
01:21:05But, like, when you're on the dance floor, you usually take your shoes off, and then you're,
01:21:08like, spilling your drink off.
01:21:09She had heels on.
01:21:10She had heels on.
01:21:11Do you have a BBC graphic we could toss up?
01:21:13Uh, she did have heels on.
01:21:16Yay!
01:21:17It worked on.
01:21:18It may have ended in a little smoochy smooch.
01:21:20Oh.
01:21:20You know, dude?
01:21:21All right, let's get back.
01:21:22I don't know what to do.
01:21:23We're on live television here.
01:21:25Get back to spoilers.
01:21:26My mom's watching!
01:21:27Well, we did make it, uh, we did better than Chuck Schumer.
01:21:30We made it through an entire episode without anybody doing this.
01:21:34And we need a complete investigation that's independent.
01:21:39Now, on Iran and the NDAA, when all the time...
01:21:43Oh, no!
01:21:45That was a...
01:21:45Was that a fart?
01:21:46That was a good rant, man.
01:21:47Go back, go back.
01:21:48How did...
01:21:49Mike, pick that up.
01:21:50Let me hear that.
01:21:51It's good.
01:21:51It must have been really loud.
01:21:54And we need a complete investigation that's independent.
01:21:59Now, on Iran and the NDAA, when all the Trump administration...
01:22:05I mean, the timing there probably shows you what he thinks.
01:22:07Where is that mic?
01:22:08Now, on Iran and the NDAA.
01:22:09That's an old man fart.
01:22:10Yeah.
01:22:11That was an old man fart.
01:22:12Yeah, I mean, you can't control...
01:22:13I mean, you know, like...
01:22:14He also probably just doesn't even care.
01:22:17Yeah, he's been doing it for a while, dude.
01:22:19I just...
01:22:19There's no one behind him.
01:22:21Or are you going to say, Danny, you've had some trouble?
01:22:22No, I was just outside, out in the hallway.
01:22:24I farted.
01:22:28Yeah, look, the older you get, the harder that stuff becomes to control.
01:22:32If there were people behind him sitting down, eye level with his butt...
01:22:37Yeah, it's screwed up.
01:22:37I bet you Ben Franklin was farting.
01:22:39But there's no one back there.
01:22:40God, I'll never forget being in the O-line room back in the day.
01:22:44Young player, he used to sit in depth chart.
01:22:47And I'm sitting there, hands on my notebook like this and...
01:22:50Falling asleep.
01:22:51My guy, Ryan Schmilla, old Miller, stands up and just...
01:22:55Schmilla was his last name?
01:22:56Miller.
01:22:57Just trips one in your face.
01:22:58Right in my face.
01:22:59I'm talking, I felt like I had a hair dryer.
01:23:01My eyebrows were singed off, hair blowing back in the wind, cheeks slapping.
01:23:08Was it like on, like, Click whenever he pauses it and then goes with the little kid?
01:23:14Adam Sandler's Click?
01:23:15Yeah.
01:23:15I've never seen Click.
01:23:16Are you serious?
01:23:17No, I just think it's a funny reference.
01:23:18We've got to be the only morning show that's talking about Click today.
01:23:21And farting.
01:23:23That's fair.
01:23:24That's fair.
01:23:25What's everybody doing in the smoky weekend this weekend?
01:23:28Wrigley tonight?
01:23:29We're going to be building.
01:23:30I think we're building.
01:23:31Wrigley, we're going to build some Legos.
01:23:32Back on the Millennium Falcon?
01:23:33Yes.
01:23:34Because, you know, you spend your entire life doing this job and you're like, man, I've
01:23:38got to work so hard to try to make this show good.
01:23:40And then you get two drunk guys to build a Millennium Falcon and it does millions of views.
01:23:45So they've got, so part two tonight, watch Dana and Mikey lock in.
01:23:51They're going to be making the Falcon.
01:23:53You've never seen some genuine excitement as when these two are building Legos.
01:23:57Speaking of drunk guys, again, we're all headed to Wrigley because of the
01:24:01Stella Blue.
01:24:01Yeah, shout out Stella Blue Falcon.
01:24:03So we're all at Wrigley.
01:24:04Everyone come say hello.
01:24:06Make sure you say what's up.
01:24:07We're going to have a great time.
01:24:09Are we going to have a rooftop?
01:24:10I'm not, aren't those getting, aren't they getting rid of those?
01:24:12I think.
01:24:13It's got to be, right?
01:24:14It's got to be a rooftop.
01:24:14Oh, yeah.
01:24:15Oh, yeah.
01:24:16This is the barstool difference.
01:24:17Nobody has any idea the thing that everybody has committed to go to for work tonight.
01:24:22Yeah.
01:24:22The whole company.
01:24:23Yeah.
01:24:24I love a fun field trip with all my guys.
01:24:26I'm always going to make a fool out of myself somehow.
01:24:27It's going to be great.
01:24:28Yeah.
01:24:29Can I talk to you all about Flavius Scorpius real quick?
01:24:31Yeah, yeah.
01:24:31Give us a pass.
01:24:31Here we go again.
01:24:33Okay, okay.
01:24:33So here it is.
01:24:34Flavius Scorpius.
01:24:35Because I actually got him a little confused with another guy.
01:24:37But Flavius Scorpius.
01:24:38How could you?
01:24:39He had 2,048 career victories in the chariot races.
01:24:44Pretty damn good.
01:24:45Died at age 27 in a crash, though.
01:24:47Jeez.
01:24:48But before then, 15 to 20 billion dollars in modern day winnings.
01:24:54That's 4 million Roman success.
01:24:56This guy was booming.
01:24:57But the richest in Roman history, Gaius Apollaeus Diocles.
01:25:04Yeah, you crushed that.
01:25:0524-year career in the chariot races, estimated to have won anywhere from 15 to 160 billion dollars.
01:25:12They should bring that sport back.
01:25:14Chariot racing?
01:25:15Yeah.
01:25:15Hyper dangerous, but super cool.
01:25:17I mean, super, super, super cool.
01:25:19I mean, isn't it just kind of like horse racing with like little, like, what are those things?
01:25:23Yeah, but it's like combat a little bit, too.
01:25:27You can knock guys out, right?
01:25:28Yeah.
01:25:29Yeah.
01:25:29They do, there's a French theme park that does some like modern day chariot races.
01:25:33It's scripted, but it looks pretty tight.
01:25:34It's like those people, sorry.
01:25:36Go ahead.
01:25:37No, I'll cut you off.
01:25:38No, no, no, no.
01:25:38I wouldn't say anything.
01:25:39No, it's like those people that ride the bikes that have the chariots in the back.
01:25:42We should all race them.
01:25:42It is.
01:25:43Actually, yeah.
01:25:43Okay.
01:25:44I guess we still, we do.
01:25:44The rickshaws.
01:25:45They're called rickshaws.
01:25:46Yeah.
01:25:46Shout out to Nikola Jokic.
01:25:48We still do kind of have modern day chariot races.
01:25:51All right.
01:25:51Final World Cup predictions for Sunday, guys.
01:25:53What are we thinking?
01:25:54Again, I love this from a style standpoint.
01:25:56It is machine.
01:25:58That's how I view Spain versus like passion and humanity.
01:26:02That's how I view Argentina.
01:26:05I think the baby that was bathed is going to fulfill the prophecy.
01:26:08I think Spain wins this World Cup.
01:26:10Spain and pens.
01:26:12Really?
01:26:13You think P.K.?
01:26:131-1 in regulation goes to penalties.
01:26:17That'll be so electric.
01:26:19I am also going to go with Spain.
01:26:21Shout out to my Spanish cousins, Anna and Akeem and Jauma and Becky.
01:26:27That's crazy.
01:26:28Do you all think?
01:26:29So I was just whispered in my ear, we don't want penalties.
01:26:31That's boring.
01:26:31I don't think I agree with that.
01:26:33Ending on a penalty would kind of be electric.
01:26:35I like penalties.
01:26:36I think 120 minutes of an absolute battle and then penalty kicks to end it with all the
01:26:40pressure in the world would be like.
01:26:42The last final in 2022 ended in penalties.
01:26:43You had to miss, you had to miss, you had to miss, you had to miss, you had to miss,
01:26:46you had to miss, you had to miss, you had to miss.
01:26:46Cutter, messy, cutter, messy.
01:26:47Okay, good.
01:26:48So we're not going Spain across the board.
01:26:49I was also going to take Argentina.
01:26:51I feel like it feels like the end of the error and Messi, you know, I feel like he could,
01:26:57if he doesn't play in another one, which he would be too, not too old, but pretty old,
01:27:00this would be a nice little bow on top of, yeah, a bow on top of everything he's done
01:27:05for the viewers, for his teams and for soccer in a general sense.
01:27:09At the same time, to go to Valhalla, you have to die on the field of battle.
01:27:12I've always said that.
01:27:17I love you guys.
01:27:19I love you, Mikey.
01:27:20I love you too.
01:27:21Michael Cade, Data Beer's chief of Make and Make Money.
01:27:23Love you.
01:27:24Bobby A.
01:27:24Love you guys.
01:27:25See you Monday more.
01:27:25Wake up.
