00:00I want to start with Juliette Lewis. I was curious what went into deciding how she was
00:03going to come into the show and why you wanted her to play the character she ends up playing.
00:08So first of all, I love Juliette Lewis. I've always loved her performances since the early 90s.
00:16I was actually, when I started thinking about Cape Fear and talking to my producing partner
00:24and trying to get it, I was on set with Juliette on another show where she was guest starring.
00:33And I had just been going like, man, she's such a good actress. So interesting to watch and so present.
00:42And so I always knew it was years later that Cape Fear came together. But I always knew that if
00:48at all
00:48possible, I wanted her to be a part of it and appear in it the same way that Peck and
00:54Mitchum
00:54appeared in the 1991 version. And as for where her character came from, it was early on in the
01:02writers' rooms. We were playing with places that the season would go. You know, the idea of what
01:07if Max Cady had a stalker came up and that kind of organically became Juliette's character. And I was
01:16always hoping that she would play it. So once we were a little further down the road, I called her
01:20and asked if she would come join on. Yeah, that's amazing. Was there ever any talk of getting Nick
01:26Nolte or Jessica Lange or De Niro involved from the 91 movie? Not really. If so, I feel like you'd
01:34want
01:34like a juicier role. And we just didn't quite have the thing in the story. It was incredible. And being
01:44able to connect with her made me feel so much more comfortable in Natalie's shoes. And knowing
01:50that she was stepping into a new character in this really helped me kind of separate the 91 version
01:57to this and understand that I am making something on my own as well as honoring her wonderful portrayal
02:07of Danielle in the 91 version. But yeah, it was magical. And you know, it was pretty kismet that
02:14her last day and my last day were the same day and being able to share kind of how important
02:23she was
02:23to me throughout this process to make me feel so comfortable. It was really magical and I'm eternally
02:31grateful for her. And she plays a crazy good character and she's so good. Yeah, she's so she's
02:38sorry. She's so good. She's incredible. She's incredible in it. And it was just such like when
02:42I heard that she was going to be a part of it, I was just blown away because her name
02:46wasn't on
02:46wasn't originally on the sheet that we were sent when we got when we auditioned for the part because
02:51it was being kept secret. And then when we sort of went into the makeup trailer and there were whispers
02:56of it and we started to realize that she was going to be a part of it. I mean, she's
02:59just such a
03:00such a legend and such an incredible, nuanced, brilliant actress. And I just think she's really
03:08one of the greats. And it was amazing that, you know, I actually didn't share any scenes with her,
03:12but it was amazing that I even got to be on set with her. It was just an honor.
