Transcript
00:00It seems a natural thing, doesn't it?
00:01Someone who's intensely lonely and doesn't know how to communicate with other people.
00:05He has taught himself how to speak, but still people kind of run in fear from him.
00:08That he would turn to the cinema, which is a common experience.
00:14We don't feel so alone.
00:15We're able to experience feelings without having the discomfort of talking about them
00:20with other people.
00:21There's also something great about sitting with other people staring at the same thing.
00:25People have much better conversations driving in cars together than facing each other over
00:30dinner tables, et cetera, when you can look in the same way you talk about deeper things.
00:35So for him, it's that he comes to be best friends in his mind with Ronnie Reed, played by Jake
00:41Gyllenhaal.
00:41Sort of a Fred Astaire kind of a character.
00:44And because he's had such an abysmal father in Frankenstein, who just completely abandoned
00:48him.
00:48He's just my most pathetic individual ever.
00:50He's learning how to be a man from Ronnie Reed.
00:54And so when we first meet him meeting the bride and meeting Euphronius, he's imitating them.
01:00And then he realizes, oh, they're cut from a whole different cloth.
01:04These women are authentic and they're brilliant.
01:07And he needs to bring more to the table.
