00:00Well, you know, my conversation with Lynn is one that hasn't stopped since we met in May of 2002.
00:04So we're so deep into it. We're talking about everything all the time.
00:08The fact that we got to come together on this one, this was something that he did on his own
00:11when we were making Hamilton. And so now for us to be able to be sitting on set,
00:16to be planning and plotting to show him cuts, you know, to be dreaming of, you know, what this could
00:20be,
00:20you know, he's such a, you know, such an essential collaborator for me.
00:24And he was there for, you know, he was there in prep. He was there when we were shooting.
00:27And he was around in post. So, you know, and the new song came from conversation.
00:30We thought, all right, is there anything in the body of the film that feels like an opportunity?
00:34And we feel all the songs were in the right place. And then we started looking to the end credits.
00:39And we thought, what do we, what do we not have? What is this film not yet giving us?
00:42And we thought something between Maui and Moana. And then, wait a minute, what if it's both Moanas?
00:49And once we said that out loud, I just saw his eyes get wide. And I thought, I've seen that
00:53look before.
00:54And I knew what was going to happen. And that's the, and that's this terrific new song.
00:57Yeah. I mean, it's, it's a beautiful new song. I'm so glad that it's in there.
01:01I also want to ask, like, what was the decision? Was it Lynn's decision or your decision to remove him
01:05from the, like, lead vocals in, we know the way, right?
01:10So he's no longer in there. So I want to ask, what was up with that?
01:12I mean, look, every decision we make is when we make together. What I will say is, Lynn wasn't initially
01:20going to be in that version in 2016, but he sang the demo.
01:23And I thought, oh, that's really good. And that's Lynn. And we love Lynn. Let's leave him in.
01:27So that's how that happened. And obviously became part of the iconography of that.
01:31This felt like an opportunity to have a Polynesian voice there.
01:34And so we, you know, Lynn was the first person to say, yes, let's go do that.
01:39And we found an amazing singer to join us, Moses. So that's the voice that you hear in that vocal.
