00:00Bringing you breaking news from government sources.
00:02The government says that it is confident that except SP and Congress,
00:07almost all political parties could extend their support to the delimitation bill.
00:13This is a big development coming as the parliament session is about to begin.
00:20Piyush Mishra is joining me live on this story.
00:22Piyush, parliament session starting next week.
00:25The delimitation bill at the moment is not on the agenda that has been already released.
00:30But the government sources now saying they are confident of support.
00:34What more can you tell us about this?
00:36Well, that's right.
00:37What you are now learning is that the government is very, very confident of getting a huge number of support
00:43from almost all political parties on the issue of delimitation and women's reservation.
00:48Why?
00:48Because, you know, government already has got a large chunk of, you know, support from opposition in its city.
00:57Remember that last time government was able to get the support of only 298 MPs.
01:02But this time, according to the present scenario of parliament, along with six UBT MPs,
01:09we already have 20 NCPI MPs supporting the government and the figure has crossed the mark of 300.
01:16Apart from that, sources are suggesting that whatever Congress is going to oppose, DMK will support this.
01:22And remember that Congress has made it very, very clear that they are going to oppose the delimitation bill
01:27if it is, you know, reintroduced.
01:30In fact, Malikarju Khadgi has written for an all-party meeting on this to the government leaders.
01:36So, when Congress is opposing this, DMK will support this, which certainly adds the number and reaches the mark of
01:42340.
01:43So, government already has the support of a lot of MPs.
01:47It is short of only six MPs if we talk about the effects.
01:51The government gets support of NCP Sharap Tawar also.
01:55So, looking at the changing scenario, sources within the government are telling us
01:59that it is very, very confident of getting support of almost all political parties on the issue of women's...
02:05My question there is about the numbers that are required.
02:09Remember, this is a constitutional amendment bill.
02:12It requires not just a majority, but a special majority.
02:15Two-thirds members present and voting in both houses.
02:19At the same time, it will also require a lot of consultation with the states, etc.
02:24Because states will also have to ratify this particular amendment once it is passed by the parliament.
02:31What are you picking up from the BJP sources, from the government sources,
02:36about the support that is required from the states and the kind of consultation that is really required?
02:44Because we saw this delimitation bill being defeated earlier when it was tabled in the parliament in April.
02:50There were a lot of questions asked.
02:52There were a lot of concerns raised.
02:55Well, that's right, Anisha.
02:56You would remember the last time government was not able to get the required numbers in its city
03:01to pass a delimitation bill.
03:03In fact, government had requested various parties to support it for the cause of women.
03:07But this time, what is happening, that looking at the current scenario,
03:11current strength of Lok Sabha, government has almost reached the mark of 360.
03:16If you talk about the current strength, it is 540.
03:203 MPs are no more.
03:21So, the strength has reduced from 543 to 540.
03:24So, two-third of 540 is 360.
03:26And the sources within the government have told us that they have already crossed the mark of 350,
03:33the support of 350 MPs, you know, if you talk about the talks which the government has had in the
03:39past few months with various regional players.
03:41So, it will not be very, very difficult for the government to get support of two-thirds MPs for the
03:47cause of women's reservation.
03:49And that's why sources in the government are telling us that it is very, very confident of getting support on
03:54this bill from various political parties,
03:57except Congress and Samadwadi Party.
03:59Now, it remains to be seen how things are further going to pan out in Parliament.
04:03Monsu session is all set to begin on 20th of July.
04:06And then we will also see NDA Parliamentary Party meet on 21st of July.
04:10A lot of things are in fitting.
04:12A lot of discussions have already taken place.
04:14Today, it was NDA group of ministers meeting at the Office of Direction.
04:19And now, but we'll see.
04:21These MPs are reaching out to various MPs for consensus.
04:25All right. Thank you very much for that, Piyush Mishra.
04:27While the delimitation bill is not on the agenda as of now,
04:30government seems to indicate that it may have support for it very soon.
