लोकसभा में महिला आरक्षण से जुड़ा संविधान संशोधन बिल पास नहीं हो सका, जिससे केंद्र सरकार को बड़ा झटका लगा। बिल को पारित करने के लिए जरूरी बहुमत से यह 54 वोट पीछे रह गया। कुल 352 सदस्यों की मौजूदगी में 230 वोट इसके खिलाफ पड़े, जिसके चलते विधेयक गिर गया। सरकार ने इस पर विपक्ष को जिम्मेदार ठहराया। अमित शाह ने विपक्ष पर महिलाओं के साथ विश्वासघात का आरोप लगाया, जबकि भाजपा नेताओं ने इसे “महिला विरोधी रुख” करार दिया।

The constitutional amendment bill without women's reservation could not be passed in the Lok Sabha, which dealt a major blow to the central government. It was 54 votes behind the majority needed to pass the bill. Out of a total of 352 members present, 230 voted against it, leading to the dropping of the bill. The government blamed the opposition. Amit Shah accused the opposition of betrayal with women, while BJP leaders termed it an “anti-woman tree”.
