00:00Northumbrian Water believes it may finally have identified a source of pollution
00:05affecting Colourcoats Bay. The beach has received the Environment Agency's
00:10lowest bathing water rating since back in 2018. Engineers have now discovered damaged public and
00:18private pipes alongside wrongly connected household drains which may have allowed sewage
00:23into the groundwater which then flowed into the bay. The company says repairs are complete
00:29on its network and now work is to continue with local homeowners. The Environment Agency will carry
00:35out further water quality testing to establish whether the improvements have resolved the long
00:42running contamination problem.
