02:01Matthew Hayden is certainly looking for a little bit of luck to start the new year in
02:05he's I'm not sure feeling any more pressure than he has done for the first two test match
02:10but Dale Steyn, he'll be steaming in
02:15it's what we've got to be looking for here
02:17to see if Dale Steyn and the other South Africans can extract a little bit of swing
02:22they've got a strong attack
02:24Mtini, Steyn, Morkel and Callis
02:27the fast bowlers
02:29and then of course they've got Harris to bowl spinners
02:31so they've got a good line up there
02:35Morkel just getting his back nice and loose
02:38but it's a dry pitch
02:40the toss has been won by Australia
02:41and they've decided to bat first
02:43now can the South Africans make an early breakthrough
02:47not too much swing there at the moment
02:49and just within himself as well
02:52so it'll take just a little bit of time for the bowlers to get themselves going
02:55and Matty Hayden will be looking to leave as much as he can early on
03:01Simon Cadditch having a good summer

03:06struggled in the second inch I thought

03:09it has been very consistent
03:11and I think the pressure on Matthew Hayden

03:20yeah and I think one of the nice things about opening the batting
03:22is when you can consistently put on that opening stand
03:24when you know you're getting the team off to a start

03:29but that hasn't been the case
03:30and I think that's where Cadditch might be feeling

10:43I think what he's trying to
10:44we saw in Melbourne he came out in that second innings and played
10:47a hundred heaps of shots down the ground
10:49tried to bully himself and enforce himself on the contest
10:51and end up hitting one to short cover
10:54I think now you see him just pull back a little bit as you say
10:57just try and find his rhythm at the moment
10:59just find his footwork and pick up the conditions
11:01and the way the ball's coming down
11:03and really he's fighting pretty hard
11:05it's luckily Simon Katic is piling on the runs
11:08which makes his job a bit easier
11:11that's right it's not about Hayden right now
11:13it's about Katic
11:14Hayden's job is to be at the other end
11:16and support this guy who's on fire
11:20three of the top six Australian batsmen
11:23are in terrible form
11:25Hayden, Hussey, Simons in the first two tests
11:28and the others haven't really been piling on massive runs either
11:32Ricky Ponting
11:33almost a double century in Melbourne
11:36Katic and Clark have been impressive
11:38they've had to fight hard
11:39but gee they need some support
11:44walks way across
11:45and works onto the leg side
11:46it's been really good positive stuff
11:49seven singles and six fours by Simon Katic
11:55that's certainly been a highlight of his batting this whole summer
12:00is the confidence that he's played with
12:05certainly through the hitting through the offside
12:07that's one area where he's really improved
12:10he used to smother his drives through the offside a lot
12:13but not this season
12:24very crisp
12:26that one not really crisp
12:28but they still ran forward
12:29that was pinged off his bat
12:32they've tried a few things the South Africans
12:34they bowled straight
12:35they bowled wide
12:36they've drifted onto his pad
12:38so nothing's going their way
12:41Katic has got the measure

12:46and down the ground is where he can scare
