ITL reacts to the latest headlines, including another quarterback making the NFL Top 100 while C.J. Stroud is left off
Transcript
00:00The NFL Top 100 update, but you've been gone for a little bit, so I wanted to give you an
00:04opportunity to get into some of this.
00:06Also, there's some very interesting things happening right now in the Top 100, so I'll give you the latest,
00:11and if you want to go back and if you're at all interested in going back to any of the
00:15other things.
00:15I looked at them.
00:16Okay, and there's nothing that you felt the absolute need to... Very good. Never mind. I don't even know why
00:21I'm doing that.
00:21Coming in at No. 70, Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney, but the very interesting one,
00:26and the one we kind of alluded to a little bit at the beginning of the show,
00:30coming in at No. 69, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, which, I don't know if you realize this,
00:36this represents a 67-place drop from Lamar Jackson.
00:40Oh, I did not realize that.
00:40That's where I was about to get to. I know we used to focus on CJ.
00:43Correct.
00:44But I'm like, that felt kind of low.
00:46Correct. That was the part that shocked me even more.
00:49Once we see Lamar Jackson on here, it does feel like, all right, does this close the door on CJ?
00:53But more importantly, what the hell is happening amongst his peers when it comes to feelings on Lamar Jackson?
00:58Lamar Jackson wasn't like Brock Purdy, who only played nine games, right?
01:02Maybe that's the reason why we go, oh, Brock Purdy, kind of low here.
01:05Lamar Jackson, who the previous year, the players in the league looked at as, what was it,
01:10the second best player in all of the National Football League?
01:13Yeah.
01:13Is put at 69 here as, you know, he, I mean, still throwing the ball pretty damn well as a
01:20quarterback.
01:20And I wonder how much Lamar's unwillingness to run changed this.
01:24He very much felt, and this happened a little bit the year prior, but it just did very much.
01:28It felt like in games, he was staying in the pocket almost to his, not almost, definitely to his detriment.
01:34I'm a quarterback. I'm a passing quarterback.
01:36And I was like, we've gotten to that point where we don't have to be.
01:39It's very clear.
01:40If people don't know by now, they're idiots about Lamar Jackson's prowess as a quarterback.
01:44And it got to a point where it was very detrimental to them where holding the football,
01:48admittedly the offensive line wasn't great, but holding the football got him in trouble,
01:51got him injured in some instances.
01:53And, yeah, like he did throw seven interceptions, but he had 21 passing touchdowns.
01:57But it felt like he wasn't the same threat, or not necessarily threat,
02:00but he did not, I guess, execute on that threat to run the football nearly as much as the Lamar
02:07Jackson
02:07that, you know, was literally a highlight reel.
02:09Like in the vignette that the NFL.com did for this Top 100,
02:13one of the players, and I can't remember who, apologies, was like,
02:16yeah, I watch my own film, but if I'm not watching my film, I'm watching Lamar Jackson.
02:20Like he came into the league and made dudes that we look at as the best in the world
02:23look like children for moments.
02:24And that's not how it felt last year in a weird way.
02:26No, I think you hit it right.
02:28I mean, it was to his own detriment that he didn't use all the tools in the toolbox.
02:32But even still, 69?
02:33No, no, no.
02:34And that's the thing, right?
02:35Yeah, that's separate.
02:36I'm saying, I think he was going to fall because of that,
02:39but to fall that far is pretty dang remarkable for a player who could still be,
02:44he could be MVP this year.
02:46I mean, they're the favorite, one of the favorites in the AFC.
02:49And he could be the MVP this year, and to fall that far is weird.
02:53Now, here's the thing.
02:54I've been giving you a hard time, as has Figgy, about the C.J. Stroud thing.
02:58And I'll take it.
02:59That's a pretty tall.
03:00I'm not kidding around this time.
03:03That is a wrap, isn't it?
03:04He's not going to be in the Top 100?
03:05I think so, but this is how far Mar Jackson fell where I go,
03:09what is the decision-making process here?
03:12Like, what are they valuing here?
03:13Now, I think you're probably right at this point.
03:15I am starting to give up on the idea that, yeah, C.J. Stroud should be here.
03:19We were already getting to that point in the numbers.
03:21I thought that mid-60s was the absolute highest.
03:22The one that really did it for me was Jordan Love at 72.
03:25Yeah.
03:25That, to me, is more telling than Lamar Jackson at 69.
03:29Yeah.
03:29Yeah, Lamar Jackson raises questions for me on what's happening with this list.
03:32But Jordan Love, he's better than C.J. Stroud.
03:33Who do you think the next Texan is going to be on this list?
03:37Like, I know we've been looking for C.J. Stroud.
03:39Do you think it would be another Texan?
03:41I do.
03:43Obviously, outside of Will Anderson.
03:45Yeah.
03:45Who will be real high.
03:47Yeah.
03:47Now, Nico's on there already, right?
03:51That's what I'm trying to remember, what the list is of Texans,
03:54because I've been so locked in on the quarterbacks,
03:56I'm trying to recall where all the Texans fell to this point.
03:59I believe – did Nico come in already?
04:01Because I feel like that was – that would have been low here.
04:05Yeah, because we just had Aziz, right?
04:08Aziz was 92.
04:09Aziz was there.
04:10I think he might have been the one –
04:12No, Nico is not on there.
04:13Yeah, Nico –
04:14And he shouldn't be.
04:15Like, that's the thing.
04:16Nico Collins is a good enough wide receiver where we should not be talking about him
04:20in the portion where we had –
04:21I'm wondering if we see another Texan hit this list.
04:24That's not C.J. Stroud.
04:25Right.
04:26I wonder if the next Texan isn't, like, Jalen Petrie.
04:30Could be Petrie.
04:31That's where – because I feel like last year was a Petrie glow-up year
04:34where people were like, oh, okay, he's one of the best playing this particular position
04:39of that, like, that nickel, that star position, whatever you want to call it.
04:42He felt like he really came into his own, or at least people recognized what he does.
04:47I think that is reflected in this, but I think he's also so unique in that position
04:51where I don't think it ends up being something crazy where he ends up in the 30s.
04:55You know what I mean?
04:55I think outside of – the obvious ones are Nico, Will Anderson Jr., and Derek Stingley.
05:00Yeah.
05:00Those are the obvious ones.
05:01I think Will Anderson, Derek Stingley, probably going to be top 25 high.
05:05Very, very high.
05:06But would you pick Petrie over Lasseter?
05:08Would players pick Petrie over Lasseter?
05:11That's a good question.
05:13Kamari is one of the ones that I'm very, very curious to see where he falls
05:16because he feels like he also was the one that was getting a similar treatment
05:21to Jalen Petrie where people were like, oh, wait, do you guys know
05:24this unheralded player over here in Kamari Lasseter?
05:27Yeah, I think that he's one of those guys that will get a little bit of love here as well.
05:32But it's all defense, right?
05:33There's nobody on the offense besides Nico Collins that you go, hey,
05:36does he have an opportunity to show up here?
05:37Yeah, I don't see it.
05:38I do think that's a wrap on – which is quite the story.
05:43Yeah.
05:43I mean, C.J. Stroud not being top 100?
05:46I wasn't rooting for it, but I think the part that hurts me the most
05:51is seeing Bryce Young on that list.
05:53That was why I was so strong.
05:55I was like, if Bryce Young had a good year, do not get me wrong,
05:58it was not so good as to where I put him above C.J. Stroud.
06:01But to me, Jordan Love was the tell.
06:02Jordan Love was the tell.
06:04He's, by any gauge, if you're being honest, a better quarterback than C.J. Stroud.
06:09Jordan Love's a funny one, though, because I think Jordan Love is not –
06:12I don't think there's a consensus is the word I was looking for
06:15amongst football people about Jordan Love.
06:18He has great tape in instances, but it's also not as consistent
06:22as one would like to believe from him.
06:24But the consensus between him and C.J. Stroud, I think it was –
06:28Yeah, probably in the moment.
06:30If anything, it was kind of similar a little bit.
06:32But Jordan Love probably obviously got the edge.
06:36I mean, better team, right?
06:38Even that, is that even fair to say better team?
06:41I guess more well-regarded because of the night and day nature of offense
06:44and defense here.
06:44That's another thing, too.
06:45The Texans got a good team, too.
06:47Yeah, but I don't know how many people look at the Texans and go,
06:49they have a good team as opposed to they have an incredible defense.
06:53Yeah.
06:55They have a great team by default because, yo, that defense is really good
06:59and the offense is there.
07:00And I think that that is harming C.J. a ton within this.
07:03Not to say that he is not a factor in that, but you get what I'm saying.
