00:01Hello and welcome to another edition, a very big hitting edition of Fox Cricket Classics.
00:06The first of the two match T20 International Series between Australia and South Africa at the MCG in 2009
00:13will always be known as the first time Australian audiences were introduced to a young swashbuckler by the name of
00:20David Warner.
00:21The Aussies in this match led by Ricky Ponting, David Warner alongside Marsh at the top of the order.
00:26The wild thing coming in at number 11 but keep an eye out for him with the ball in hand.
00:31The South Africans always a good side when you've got Jack Cullis and A.B. de Villiers in it.
00:36Australia won the toss and batted first but no one, no one expected this.
00:42And it will be Makai Rantini to start up.
00:47Oh and a good delivery first up as well.
00:50A little bit of movement off the seam and bounce and Marsh plays a miss.
00:54That's Johan Boerter there, he's the captain for these two 2020s and the one day series.
01:02Oh a little hesitation, chance! He was gone if he hit, absolutely gone.
01:07A.B. de Villiers was the fieldsman and a direct hit could have seen Dave Warner out for one.
01:12They don't miss too often in the modern game fielders, especially the quality of de Villiers and I'm with you.
01:18I reckon he was cold and a little stutter here caused all the problems and he missed by a long
01:26way.
01:29He probably had a little longer than he thought he did, A.B. de Villiers. He was very keen to
01:33get rid of that ball quickly.
01:34I don't think he'd realise that Dave Warner has hesitated so badly in the running.
01:40He had a little bit more time to size up the situation and get that throw closer to the stumps.
01:45So a life for Warner in the early over.
01:49And has he got enough on it? He has! It's away for four!
01:53That's how he plays and that's why he's been picked.
01:58Good stroke.
01:59And the teeny, the one thing when the teeny can do, he can be a little bit predictable.
02:03Doesn't bowl too many slower balls.
02:05Generally bowls from wide at the crease and angles it across the left-handers.
02:09This is a good sign for me. Yeah, sure, he would be nervous.
02:12But to get one away early to just clears mid on, you've had a close run out.
02:16These are good signs for Warner early.
02:20Good shot.
02:22It's nicely timed as well.
02:25Warner looks in good touch.
02:28Well, he may be nervous, Sossobe, but he's bowled a couple of pies to start with.
02:33That was short and wide.
02:35Should have gone.
02:36And then the half-volley on leg stump did go.
02:42Oh, lovely shot.
02:43That's just a good cricket shot.
02:45Sean Marsh on this occasion, on the rise, back past the bowler.
02:50Oregon, that's better than a good cricket shot, Tub.
02:52That is magnificent.
02:54To have the ability to hit the ball at the top of the bounce, straight back down the ground.
02:59Normally when it's hit, when it's bouncing like that, it's through extra cover, even point.
03:04That is magnificent piece of batting.
03:10Oh, he won't stop that.
03:14Only the fence did, but it cleared the rope.
03:16And Rodney Tucker not for the first time tonight, I don't reckon.
03:20Well, it is the first time tonight.
03:21He's got his hands in the air.
03:22I think we're going to see a few more of him.
03:26Well, that's the strength.
03:28Talk about him clubbing the ball.
03:30That's a hip-type delivery that has disappeared over mid-on for six.
03:41It's exciting, isn't it, a young talent, raw young talent, now mid-on goes back.
03:45They've identified that as a hitting area for this young man.
03:50I've got a feeling he's got a few of them, actually.
03:52Not just mid-on.
03:58There's another one.
04:01And the same result.
04:05Wow.
04:06What a straight.
04:07That's two in a row.
04:08Put your mid-on back as far as you like.
04:10I'll go over square leg.
04:11Put them where you like.
04:13He said, I'm making my debut here for Australia.
04:16Where's he been?
04:21Well, he's now 24 of 10 deliveries, Dave Warner.
04:29Even though the boundary's in, Tubb, that's still a long way.
04:32And that is as clean as you can hit a cricket ball.
04:38Now, already Johan Berta, the captain of the South African team, has got a problem here.
04:41He's got mid-on back now.
04:44He's got square leg going back.
04:46So he's got his third man up now inside the circle.
04:49So his five men on the offside there on your right of screen are all up, saving one.
04:54Now, bear in mind, for the first six overs, only two men allowed outside that circle of dots there, you
05:00can see.
05:02You can see that big circle there of dots.
05:05You've got to have only two men out at the moment, square leg and mid-on are those two fieldsmen.
05:10And Collorantini's gone round the wicket, and I dare say he probably hasn't got a clue where the ball is.
05:19That's wide.
05:20That's an edge, and that's four.
05:22What an over.
05:2318 from it.
05:26None for 37 after three.
05:31One of the targets for the batting side is in the first six overs, 60 is sort of a target.
05:37And all the stats and that of the 2020 games, if you can reach 60 in the first six overs,
05:43you're on target for somewhere around 200 with wickets in hand.
05:46We talked about a par score being around 160, but with this start, 200 is looking good.
05:53Oh, well taken.
05:54Great catch.
05:55Short, fine leg.
05:57That's an Albie Wawkel again.
05:58That's his second piece of fine fielding just around the corner.
06:02Sean Marsh can't believe it.
06:04He thought that was four, as he thought his drive was a couple of overs ago.
06:08It's a bit stiff.
06:10He got a good piece of that, and that was very well taken.
06:14Aussies lose their first wicket, one for 38.
06:17The Australian captain is now out in the middle, replacing Sean Marsh.
06:22It's a sort of start you hope for, I suppose, as a number three batsman.
06:2538 on the board, only 3.2 overs gone.
06:29Probably Warney the only form of the game he hasn't absolutely dominated as a batsman.
06:33In 2020, he's been an awesome test creator, obviously, and best one-day player, you know,
06:38the game's seen for the last ten years, you could comfortably argue.
06:40This maybe not quite found his feet as yet.
06:44Yeah, look, we all know he's a class act.
06:50I think what Ricky will be trying to do in this form of the game,
06:54he's just struggled to get the feel of it early.
06:56He's got a couple of first ballers and just the way the game can go.
06:59So he hasn't really had a lot of opportunity, struggled a little bit in the IPL,
07:03can get many runs.
07:05Albie Morkle, the man taking that catch, had a wonderful IPL,
07:08and it's a very, very good cricket.
07:09You'll see him with the bat later, and very handy with the ball, too.
07:16Oh, beautifully timed again from Warner.
07:19And I don't know how he's found the gap there.
07:21There was about three metres between the two-minute point,
07:25but he's found the boundary again.
07:29It doesn't matter when you're bowling to Warner.
07:32Down the deck, over wide mid on for four again.
07:3550 up in 4.3 overs.
07:39I'll tell you what, if you're a bowler for South Africa, Warner,
07:42you'd be getting nice and invisible at the minute,
07:44because you do not want any piece of this.
07:4739 from 16.
07:49Well, I reckon Dale Stone, it's interesting he's not bowling.
07:52He brought his name up earlier, James.
07:54Maybe they're saving him for the end,
07:56but I reckon now they need to try and get rid of this Warner
07:58before he does too much damage.
07:594.3 overs, one for 50, and I reckon Australia's target,
08:03as we said, would have been around 60.
08:10Oh, where's that gone?
08:12That's over the fence.
08:14Down the fine leg.
08:16How did he get it down there?
08:20150 Ks has disappeared into the crowd.
08:2546 from 18 balls, and that's his third maximum.
08:33I'm not sure if that's a top edge or a...
08:35He certainly was trying to get it down to fine leg.
08:37It just helped it on its way.
08:40No, that's out of the middle.
08:41That's a terrific shot.
08:46Oh, now over wide mid on.
08:49That's massive.
08:52What?
08:52That's 50 off 19 balls.
08:55Four sixes in that.
08:58What's this international cricket about?
09:00It's not that tough.
09:01Let's rock up to 75,000 people at MCG
09:03and start creaming about the park.
09:05There's some catching practice to the crowd.
09:08Well played, David Warner.
09:0952 off 19.
09:12Wow.
09:15And joining me, Michael Slater and Adam Gilchrist.
09:18Oh, and there's another one gone.
09:20Way, way, Skywood, and just out of reach
09:23of A.V. de Villiers, I think it was.
09:28It was Boiver, in fact, the captain who had a big job on his hands
09:32but couldn't glitch a catch to take the second wicket.
09:45I tell you what, guys, it's nice to join you, but I thought I was in my debut in the
09:50commentary box.
09:50It was a bad piece of luck for the Aussie captain there, but he survived.
09:56That one will be wide.
09:57There's some serious pace there, 145.2.
10:01But you sort of feel that Steyn maybe getting carried away, feeling like he has to break through quickly.
10:08You're right.
10:09You're right.
10:09There he goes again.
10:10He's just clubbing them.
10:12This is just something to behold.
10:15Well, if you want acceptance in Victoria and you're a New South Welshman, he's going the right way about it.
10:2055, 59, in fact, from 26.
10:23One for 86.
10:27Oh, there's another one.
10:29That's into the stand.
10:31You've been warned.
10:32You've been warned, in fact.
10:34This bloke is here to stay.
10:37Slatsov, just as I left the bat, said to myself, get up in case it's not going to reach.
10:41But the ease with which he strikes the ball and then the power that's there for such a small man
10:47is amazing.
10:48See him come down.
10:49It's a fluent swing of the bat.
10:50And look at that.
10:51Just keep flying.
10:52Again, 20 rows back and a beautiful catch taken out of there.
11:00That's great control from Ricky Ponik.
11:03There we see a little bit of subtlety, just using the pace.
11:08Oh, that's gone not as far as Ricky Ponik wanted it to.
11:12And Dale Steyn taking a comfortable chance.
11:16Ricky Ponik toe-ended it, I think.
11:20But it's a hard match to follow with Dave Wilner going at the other.
11:23And maybe, maybe he just needed to nurdle it round.
11:2721, two for 97.
11:31This one has gone so far.
11:35It ain't coming back.
11:37We've lost that ball.
11:39I guess that's a bit of instinct there, Slats.
11:41JB, that is a clear mind.
11:43A little bit of room to get, or length, to get underneath.
11:47Weak it up.
11:48And, as you say, Nick, that ain't coming back in a hurry.
11:51See, that's the problem with you South Australians.
11:53You think too much.
11:55Blue bankers, we just don't think.
11:57Have a look at this.
11:59That is enormous.
12:00He hasn't even moved.
12:05Well, that's not a bad approach.
12:07I think he's thought, well, Warner can do it.
12:10So am I.
12:11I'm getting bogged down here.
12:13I'll just hit out.
12:15I'd always heard about the curse of saying,
12:17trying to predict what a player's going to do.
12:19I thought it was going to be the little dink to get Warner back on strike.
12:21But what a response there.
12:23We see the replay here.
12:25Just step back a bit.
12:26A bit of freedom with the arms.
12:27And over it goes.
12:31And that's nicely played.
12:32Putting the pressure on the man in the deep.
12:35Well, it is a huge job for the man out in the outfield.
12:39And particularly square.
12:40It's such big boundaries that you've got to come in.
12:42Well, that four-fifths to the boundary rope.
12:44You've got to make such a beeline.
12:45And there we see another maximum.
12:49It's some of the best hitting you'll ever witness in tonight's 2020 fixture.
12:56Yeah, I'll have a piece of that, he says.
13:00And it's not the maximum, but Warner.
13:03Keep it going, son.
13:08In the air and we're gone.
13:09Dave Hussey.
13:12Again, giving himself room.
13:14In the end, had to slow the shot down.
13:16And toe-ended it to the man that ran around to extra carver.
13:21It was A.B. de Villiers this time hanging onto it.
13:23So, Dave Hussey.
13:25It's a nice contribution.
13:26Only 19, but kept it going.
13:28Three for 140, Australia.
13:36Really looking at about 210, you'd have to say.
13:39You think it might change, though, if Warner gets out and should be out.
13:42De Villiers swallows it in the deep.
13:45The crowd don't like it.
13:47I'm sure at home you're saying, oh, you were so close.
13:52But he is a born entertainer.
13:54There's no doubt about it.
13:55He set the stadium alight.
13:59And we'll walk off to a standing ovation.
14:04Welcome to international cricket, Dave Warner.
14:15How good?
14:16Oh, no!
14:17No, no, no, no.
14:18I just thought Dominique judged it beautifully.
14:21I was going to say, how good is he?
14:23But not good enough is the answer.
14:28Thus, he gets the life.
14:34It's about the only thing he's done wrong so far this summer.
14:36J.P. Dumini.
14:37He's taken catches.
14:38His field has been fantastic in the Test Series.
14:41Made 100 here.
14:4210 and over right from the word go.
14:44The sound of him.
14:44That's high.
14:45That's high.
14:48Oh, he might have hit the road.
14:49No, he hasn't.
14:50Jack Callas takes a great catch even under the urging of David Warner.
14:57Really has to go.
14:59Does go tight.
15:01Oh, giving it out.
15:03The winner is Herschel Gibbs who's brilliant.
15:06Fast and dead-eyed.
15:09A little strike to the South Africans that will mean a lot to them at this stage
15:13because it hasn't been good going for them tonight.
15:19And so often the direct hit wins.
15:27Oh, it'll be four.
15:28Pretty unlucky as far as McCarrantini is concerned.
15:32We'll bolt it over with that quality and finish it with the boundary.
15:36Cruel at six for 161.
15:39If the opposition got 60 runs off the first six overs chasing 16,
15:43they generally won quite easily.
15:45Now, this is a bigger ground here at the MCG than what you play in India.
15:51What a fantastic stroke.
15:54We've seen it from Tendulkar off and on.
15:58Now, watch it again from Luke Ronke.
16:01Bigger ground and some more improvisation might mean a bigger score for Australia.
16:06He's a dangerous player, Luke Ronke.
16:09That was a banning quite often for West Australia in one-day cricket.
16:12Sorry, I lost you there, mate.
16:13200, you're thinking of 190, 200?
16:16Yeah, 190 would be a pretty good total, I think, yeah.
16:17As we said coming into the game, that might be six.
16:20This might be out, Ricky.
16:22Oh, good catch.
16:23Good catch, McCarrantini.
16:25He just had to adjust.
16:27Tremendous take.
16:33You see that, Ricky, or not?
16:35Yeah, I saw that.
16:36I actually, off the bat, thought it might have been going over his head, but...
16:39We've got to stop doing this every time we have a chat
16:41when you're at the boundaries edge of Wicked Falls.
16:43Yeah, it happened in the test match as well, didn't it?
16:45I don't like talking to you, mate.
16:46It did.
16:47It did.
16:47I'll get off, here's Tubby.
16:50That's it, that was a good catch.
16:54Out.
16:55Just a little dolly to extra cover.
16:59So, James Hopes has to go, it's Johan Botter who takes the catch,
17:03but it's that bowling wide and full of off-stump
17:06that is an art people often miss.
17:08It's eight for 180.
17:13And the slower boards working for you, but you're not quite dead idea.
17:18You've got to get down the bowling alley.
17:19Yep.
17:21It's his glove.
17:23Take one of them off, Boucher might be easier.
17:25I reckon they might run again.
17:26Take one off.
17:27You good enough?
17:29Is that Warnie?
17:30Yes, it is, mate.
17:32How is it out there?
17:33Yeah, no, it's a great atmosphere.
17:35Fantastic.
17:36It's lovely getting booed by all these Aussies.
17:38Enjoying it.
17:39Must be a relief to hear him from 200 metres away instead of 22.
17:43Absolutely.
17:45Yes, well done.
17:45Yes, well done.
17:46Yes, Steyl Steyn.
17:48Bang on target.
17:50Brilliant from Steyn and a fabulous comeback from South Africa.
17:54Mark, you've got very specific tactics, haven't you, for this stage of the innings?
17:59Yeah, definitely.
18:00You know, it's always going to be difficult on a big ground like this to stop twos and that,
18:04but, you know, if we can draw the boundaries up, then we're doing a job at this stage of
18:08innings.
18:10And, you know, you also want to get the batters to try different things, and that's exactly
18:13what they're doing at the moment.
18:14It's working for us because we've picked up wickets.
18:16What would you have settled for at the start of the innings when you walked out, and what
18:20would you have settled for at two for 140?
18:23At the start of the innings, you know, when you're playing a deck like this, probably
18:28around about 160, 170, but with the start that they got, probably anything under 200
18:33would be great.
18:34Right.
18:35So we've really pulled it back nasty.
18:36Okay.
18:40What did you make of Dave Warner Bouch?
18:43It's sweet.
18:45It's always difficult to play against a guy I don't know much about.
18:49Last ball of the innings.
18:51Last ball.
18:51Sean Tate on strike.
18:53Well-balled by Steyn.
18:54A single it is.
18:56Well-balled by Steyn.
18:57Well-balled by Steyn.
18:58Well-balled by Steyn.
18:59Well-balled by Steyn.
19:00Well, that's a fantastic performance by South Africa.
19:03And a thrilling one by Australia too.
19:05A wonderfully balanced 20 overs of 2020 cricket.
19:08Have you ever got to pick it from here, Shane?
19:11Yeah, I think Australia will be a little bit disappointed that they only end up with
19:15182, but it's still a good score here at the MCG.
19:20What an innings from David Warner.
19:22Exploding on the international scene.
19:2489 from 43 deliveries.
19:26Seven fours and six sixes, if you don't mind.
19:29Got the Aussies to nine for 182.
19:32Dale Steyn, three for 38.
19:34Nice with the ball.
19:35Let's now join the South African innings.
19:38This time it's full.
19:39It's pitched and hit outside.
19:40Leg.
19:42In my opinion.
19:43But not the umpires.
19:46He looked very disappointed there, Gibbs.
19:49I think maybe a bit of bat on there.
19:50He's looking at the bottom of his bat.
19:53Bracken there celebrating.
19:54The Aussies will be thrilled with that.
19:56But Herschel Gibbs, what a strike for the Australians.
19:59Out.
20:00Three balls for a duck.
20:03South Africans are away to the worst possible start, really.
20:06One for one.
20:08Just watching the replay now.
20:13It's definitely hit him outside leg, Brack.
20:15But anyway.
20:16We need a bit of luck in these games.
20:18What have you got?
20:18One for one.
20:20Work on your second one now.
20:22He's such an explosive player.
20:26Gibbs looked upset about maybe he hit it.
20:28He hit it as well.
20:30And that's the end of the first over South Africa under pressure.
20:37Oh!
20:38Tipped the shoulder first up.
20:39The Aussies are checking whether it was gone.
20:42Oxford says no.
20:47152 kilometres, if you don't mind.
20:49Very first ball.
20:52It's no warm-up time here in this game of 2020.
20:55Sean Tate has just strolled in.
20:58You're right, Slats.
20:59I think he will focus on the shorter version of the game
21:02and the shorter deliveries at Jack Hellas after that.
21:05I think that looks like an interesting call there from...
21:09Yeah, well, not 100% sure there.
21:12We've got the replays, but what's coming up next?
21:14Here it is.
21:16Down leg.
21:16It's worked a leg down to fine leg.
21:19And Callas cops a 155-er.
21:22Well, I'm sure what it was.
21:23It was a glove.
21:24It was a glove through to wide at first slip.
21:26And it was just the game providing the swings and roundabouts.
21:30Herschel Gibbs unlucky.
21:31Jack Callas getting one that should have been given.
21:34Not out.
21:35But that's a scorcher.
21:36First delivery.
21:37152.
21:38That's going to surprise anyone.
21:39Off the glove.
21:40There she goes.
21:42And Tate having a chuckle, I guess.
21:45If you know you can run in your first two balls and hit the 155 mark,
21:49you can keep laughing even if they give them all not out.
21:53A.B. to Villiers.
21:55He's out.
21:57He's hurt.
21:58And he's down.
21:59And he's got to go.
22:02Well, he can't move for the moment.
22:04He's in real strife.
22:05That is another rocket.
22:06Look at 155.4 Ks.
22:10Straight into the abdomen.
22:12And he's crippled over under the stumps.
22:16And this is going to be an awful walk off for a man who has been hurt.
22:20And dismissed.
22:20Must be the right hit.
22:22Yeah.
22:23Right in the point of the Iliac crest.
22:26Then he hits the top of off.
22:29The stump has been hammered by the bat on the way down.
22:33They say, here we go there.
22:35You'll just see the bat coming down, bang, right on top.
22:38What a shocking feeling.
22:39They say it's a long walk for a duck here at the MCG.
22:44Anyway, let alone when you're hobbling and can't walk.
22:48Two for two, the South Africans.
22:50So let's hope that he's okay.
22:52Because he's got a lot to offer for the remainder of the Australian summer.
22:59Big swing.
23:01JP Domeny gets one over mid wicket.
23:03To the ropes.
23:06Hilfenhouse's second ball disappears.
23:09Sure.
23:09Hilfenhouse in again.
23:12Kallis has gone.
23:15Kallis looks to come at Hilfenhouse.
23:18Back away.
23:18Gave his stumps away and they got cleaned up.
23:24It was marvellous indeed.
23:26Hilfenhouse very, very happy.
23:28And what a master stroke from the Australian captain.
23:30Ricky pointing.
23:31Three for 12 South Africa.
23:35That's a beautifully cracked cover drive.
23:38He watched it.
23:39Didn't have time to move much.
23:40But still creamed it.
23:41And you can't heels.
23:42You can't against this sort of pace.
23:44Your feet.
23:44You still want to get some sort of weight movement going.
23:46But your feet just can't move like they would if you're facing someone at 135k.
23:51But what he's got is a great eye and the extension of the arms.
23:55Just saw the head slightly move forward which put him into a nice launching pad.
23:59But this is a good play.
24:01And backing up what you're saying is.
24:03It's tough going for them now.
24:04Seven wickets remaining.
24:05The required run rate sits just over 10.
24:07So you've got to keep going for it.
24:09Don't you Gilly.
24:12Oh there's a pull shot.
24:13That's four as well.
24:15No one back there at all.
24:18And Dorney goes to 13.
24:20And Tate fired up.
24:22Round the wicket.
24:23He gets slashed away.
24:24For the third four of the over.
24:30You're so right.
24:31There it is.
24:32A little bit of everything from Sean Tate.
24:34And I asked the question.
24:35Let's see how JP Domeny goes in this situation.
24:37He has shown an extremely cool head again.
24:42Hooking the fast bowler around to the leg side.
24:45But cashing in on a bit of width there.
24:47Getting it over the infield.
24:49He just looks so composed this young fella.
24:51Such an exciting find for the South Africans.
24:54Immediate timing.
24:55On the front foot.
24:57On the back foot.
24:58Both sides of the wicket so far.
25:00Falling outside off.
25:01A little bit of footwork.
25:02And great timing again.
25:0314 off the over.
25:053 for 26.
25:06Johan Dorte there.
25:07On the chair nearest to us.
25:09The captain.
25:11156 runs to win.
25:12In 15.5 overs.
25:15Good luck.
25:17The thing is it can change so quickly.
25:18Couple of big overs for South Africa.
25:20They're right back on it.
25:23It's magnificent.
25:25Now he's on the front foot straight down the ground.
25:31Full toss.
25:32Chopped over the head of Ronke.
25:33And the Colonel.
25:35And four.
25:37Oh, that's the best one day shot in the book.
25:40Offside field is up.
25:42And Dominic can't pierce it.
25:45Magnificent fielding on display now.
25:47Nice.
25:48Oh, brilliant.
25:49David Hussey.
25:50They look similar out there from a distance.
25:52I thought that was Mike Hussey.
25:53But Dave Hussey.
25:56Showing his brother that he's got what it takes in the field as well.
25:59That's dynamic stuff.
26:01Third man was up too.
26:02Saving a certain boundary.
26:05They think they've got a run rate in control.
26:08And suddenly it's gone.
26:11It's nicely played.
26:12There'll be more than one in this.
26:14Once again, he's found a gap, Dominic.
26:16And he's got the timing to go with it.
26:20It's three from the last ball and nine from the over.
26:23Three for 62.
26:30Well, Van Yarsfield does the fielding on that occasion.
26:33Sorry, Dominic does the fielding.
26:35He's the non-striker.
26:36It was firstly Hopes who knocked onto Dominic.
26:51Another lovely shot down the ground.
26:54Such a nice timer for the ball.
26:57JP Dominic.
27:00He plays sort of orthodox cricket shots,
27:03but plays them so well.
27:04Times the ball so well.
27:08The other point about Vaughn Van Yarsfield is that he's making his debut here at the Melbourne
27:14Creed round in front of 70,000.
27:16So what an occasion for him.
27:18And he's out.
27:20He's caught at mid-wicket.
27:23Put the spell on him, I'm afraid.
27:25Cameron White takes the catch.
27:28That's a pity because the partnership had a nice rhythm to it.
27:32You're taking wickets every time you come on the commentary, you get a wicket.
27:36Yeah, it's a shame that for South Africa, they're doing a good partnership, 53 off 36 balls.
27:41They're doing a really good job.
27:42Unfortunately, with South Africa, they lose another wicket.
27:44That's four for 65.
27:51Parsi continuing, continuing very quickly as well.
27:55Well, Doolman is going to have to be fit, really fit.
27:58A lot of focus these days on whether the modern cricketer spends too much time training, doing fitness work.
28:05But in one day cricketing, specifically 2020 cricket.
28:09Catch, catch!
28:12Now then, oh, what a little ripper!
28:18That one's Michael.
28:20The fella of old, it's called David.
28:22The Hussey brothers have a great Melbourne moment.
28:26I'll tell you what he looked like.
28:28Nick Riewoldt for the Saints flying down there for a mark.
28:31Down at the MCG.
28:33It's a good grab.
28:35Hussey to Hussey.
28:36This is like the backyard.
28:38Very good catch.
28:40It looked like he just misjudged it a little bit, but adapted well.
28:44Excellent catch.
28:46Australia take another wicket.
28:48Five for 82.
28:52What's the tough part about this game, is it?
28:54There's no time to regroup, is there?
28:57Chase 183 for victory.
29:00Lose a couple of early wickets, it's so hard to get yourself back in the game.
29:04They've done a good job so far, South Africa, to give themselves a chance.
29:07And boy, here's Endormand giving them every possible chance.
29:11It's another beautifully timed shot.
29:15He does stay beautifully still.
29:21He really is an uncomplicated batsman.
29:23There's no movement around the crease there, no big trigger.
29:29Fantastic hands.
29:30Look at the way they worked, hit the ball on exactly the spot that he's aiming.
29:35Mark Taylor mentioned just a moment ago, one of the best, if not the best, that we've seen emerge on
29:40the international scene for some time.
29:45This could be trouble.
29:47No, it's safe.
29:48No, I think the lights.
29:50Cameron White's the fieldsman down there.
29:52I thought he was getting himself in a position to attempt a very tough catch.
29:57And in the end, I think he's caught the lights probably from the grandstand at the members' end.
30:02And in the end, he pulled out of it altogether.
30:06That's dead right.
30:07The ball reaches a certain trajectory there, and he loses it.
30:11Dead centre of one of the big pylons of lights.
30:17Lucky didn't scot him.
30:22That's a good effort from James Hopes there.
30:26Chased that ball and done his own fielding.
30:28Five for 98.
30:32Oh, my word.
30:33How do you play that shot?
30:36That's six.
30:37That is an unbelievable stroke.
30:40Off a ball that's about a tick under 150km.
30:44He's flicked it over the people for six.
30:50Well, we've talked about Dumini's skill and execution, but I'll tell you what.
30:55Sean Tate bowling somewhere around 150km.
30:58To do it with the composure that he did that without rushing.
31:00Just to actually stand a little bit to his left and just sort of ramp it.
31:05With fine leg up.
31:06I'll tell you where this one's going.
31:07This is going to be halfway down the deck and fast.
31:13Like that.
31:15Just before I saw at the start of this over Sean Tate looked at the captain Ricky Ponting
31:18and fine leg was up.
31:20And Tate said, I want to bowl a bouncer.
31:22And Ricky said, no, no bouncers.
31:23I just wonder if Dumini picked it up.
31:26And knew it was going to be a Yorker which gave him half an advantage.
31:30I think Tate saw enough of that stuff.
31:32I'm going halfway and fast.
31:36It's one of the most amazing shots that I've ever seen.
31:45Now down the ground.
31:46Beats mid off.
31:47May not beat long on.
31:49Hilfenhouse will keep it to two.
31:54Albie Morkel on strike.
31:59And that's evaded the fielder at the runaway for four.
32:04For a moment there, I thought Sean Tate was going to get his hands to that one.
32:09Gee, that's an important boundary to start the over.
32:12The top shot.
32:13They brought third man up.
32:14So if he gets it through there, there's no protection.
32:19All the protection for Morkel is out on the leg side.
32:22There's three men boundary riding.
32:26This is a good hit.
32:28He's got enough wood on it to go straight down the throat of Cameron White.
32:31This time, he doesn't get lost in the lights here at the MCG.
32:37A very important wicket for the Aussies.
32:40And I suppose if there's something in favour for Sardavriga,
32:43it's that Dumini, the man in form, is still out there.
32:47Morkel gone for 12.
32:48It's six for 120.
32:54Dumini, he's been busy from the moment he got out there.
32:57He's had to consolidate.
32:59In this form, you get about two balls to do that.
33:02And then he's been hitting.
33:03Can he be the second Centurion in 2020 cricket?
33:07Chris Gale, the only other one.
33:09Warner out for 89.
33:10But Dumini has not been contained at all.
33:13Morne Morkel just rolling on that slow ball from Nathan Bracken,
33:16who's completed his third over.
33:19Brilliantly.
33:19Two for 18.
33:21Cameron White takes the catch.
33:24As easy as you like to.
33:27Big Bear, he just, yeah, I'll take that one.
33:30I think he's just reasonably pleased to make sure that one didn't get lost
33:33in the light slats.
33:34He was a little bit of embarrassment down there in front of the crowd.
33:37His home crowd.
33:38But Dave Hussey coming back on to finish his spell.
33:42He's bowled three overs for 21.
33:44And very efficiently.
33:45I think the way he raced through the overs, he gets through them so quickly,
33:49it puts a lot of pressure back on.
33:51And I don't think it'll be any different in this over.
33:57There's the reverse sweep.
33:58He doesn't get it away.
34:00It was a big swing for only one.
34:01But Boyder, the captain coming out, trying to do something a little different.
34:05Where's the double-sided bat?
34:06I've heard a lot about this slats.
34:08Dave Warner didn't need it today.
34:10He's used it before.
34:11And sit here rather than having to turn around there.
34:14I guess you get down and a la Andrew Simons and just, just let the ball hit the bat.
34:18Hold it out, point it straight at the bowler and let the ball hit the back of the bat.
34:21Simo does it very well.
34:27And a big shout for LBW.
34:30Up goes the finger.
34:33And that is the big wicket now.
34:37It was another reverse sweep attempted.
34:41And that's about all I can say about it.
34:43It was a strange option.
34:4470-80 mate.
34:47They're well known for it, the South Africans.
34:49They can hit big balls with the reverse sweep.
34:51But it's 20Ks faster than he expected.
34:54And JP gone for 78.
34:59And Steynes, the new batsman.
35:01He's been dead batting in the test matches.
35:03Can he play the big ones here?
35:04We know he bowls fast.
35:05Can he hit long?
35:06We haven't seen that.
35:08But he'll need it tonight.
35:10Two for 22, Dave Hussey.
35:11Go!
35:15Not said the same way as one of our fellow commentators would have said it.
35:21Two for 22.
35:21But two for 23 now.
35:24This is 104 Ks an hour.
35:27Jammed in front.
35:31This will be gone too, will it?
35:32Nathan Bracken.
35:36Couldn't get there in time.
35:37But all of a sudden,
35:38South Africans trying to give their wicket away.
35:40But it's the nature of the beast.
35:42The nature of the game is,
35:43you've just got to keep hammering in hope that you can chase down 180 odd.
35:48Go!
35:48this time he swings himself up his feet Dale Stein doesn't last too long two
35:54balls in fact and Dave Hussie can you believe it he's got three fun
36:03that's a great Yorker there from Hilfenhouse
36:08pointing himself for nopping it up there
36:11punner there's a great versatility in this 2020 outfit yeah we've got lots of
36:16you know obviously very talented players around australia and the domestic stuff
36:19and it's good to see some of them getting to go here you know whitey and
36:23hope see and warner was obviously magnificent tonight so he'll pronounce
36:27is pretty handy himself as well
36:30and there's a wicket hilton house getting it through the gate and it was off the
36:35foot onto the stocks he's surprised can't believe it he just heard the death
36:41rattle I'll take it whatever happened I'll take it
36:45well the Australian bowlers have been bowling too straight to McCarrantini in the
36:48Sydney test it was blocking them perfectly Hilfenhouse gets some swing into the foot and onto the stumps
36:54nine down
36:58look at the swing on this reverse swing is it I'm not sure but he's kicked it ricocheted
37:02right off the the big toe in the middle stump
37:06Hilfenhouse is happy nice shape there bang leg stump indeed it hit
37:12oh dear there's been some interesting dismissals Mick
37:15I'm telling you it's only tail enders who can get out in this fashion it was the way
37:18Glenn McGrath used to get out he could be another meter outside leg stump somehow ricochet back onto the pegs
37:24the most dangerous delivery to those tail enders a foot down leg side
37:29still three balls remaining
37:31and he's gone the short one
37:32doesn't get through
37:34what about the pace in which he started this evening Sean Tate
37:38152 goes the opening delivery and he maxed out about 156 in that initial over
37:44that one just under 143
37:47the crowd have turned out as they do in Victoria and I'm sure it's going to be the same when
37:51we get up to Queensland
37:52your neck of the woods heels
37:54yeah well we've seen the game earlier in the year that the ball flew it flew the wicket look really
37:59flat and consistent
38:00but lots of pace and bounce
38:02this one's been a beauty too
38:08it would have been run out
38:12it's a little bit chaotic at the moment
38:17actually talking of the Gabba in a couple of days time
38:20it will be interesting to see if indeed Sean Tate plays up there and tries to back up
38:25there's obviously one of his concerns in his career thus far has been that backing up and that
38:30ability to maintain long spells be it in longer version of the game or even you know
38:35continual days of cricket in a row so
38:38let's hope he pulls up well and is up there at the Gabba
38:42and again we see
38:43an assist by the batsmen from pads to stumps
38:48and the Australians
38:50gain victory by 52 runs
38:52in this opening KFC 2020
38:55extravaganza
38:55it's the first of two
38:57Australia South Africa
38:59up at the Gabba in two nights
39:01it'll all be on again
39:02but Australia
39:03a convincing victory
39:06and everyone has contributed
39:08all the bowlers have done a magnificent job this evening
39:11and we will never forget the innings from Dave Warner
39:15he could not believe he got his pad so far outside leg stump
39:18yet still got bowled
39:21Sotsobi is finished
39:22for one
39:23Tate it had everything this innings
39:25it had economy from Bracken
39:27it had fire from Tate
39:28Hilfenhaus was good with the new ball as well as the old
39:31then Hopes and Hussey
39:32did their jobs
39:333 for 25 David Hussey
39:36in a team which has still got extra bowling options up its sleeve
39:39well not much from the top order
39:41from South Africa
39:413 for 12 they were
39:43when Callis was dismissed
39:44thankfully
39:45Doomany got going with 78 from 48 deliveries
39:48but they were always behind the run rate
39:50David Hussey
39:513 for 25
39:52well done to Dave
39:53no doubt though the player of the match
39:55David Warner
39:56Australia leading the two match series now
39:581-0
