Lebanese beekeeper faces years of recovery after war destroys hives

Lebanese beekeeper Fadi El Masri tended to his hives in Mount Lebanon's Salima, recounting how he relocated his bees from southern Lebanon under shelling. Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research said in a statement posted on its X account in June that it had recorded more than 20,000 hives lost or affected during the war between Hezbollah and Israel, representing a 65% loss of production. Masri, who usually moves his bees between Mount Lebanon and southern Lebanon depending on seasons, said he had to act earlier than planned last April because of the situation. He lost 90 of his beehives during the war, the 56-year-old added, before evacuating his remaining 120 hives in batches from the southern Lebanese town of Adloun, about 40 km (25 miles) north of Lebanon's border with Israel.
