A catastrophic disaster has struck the heart of China’s global footwear industry. A massive fire at the Huiteng Shoes factory in Chendai township, Jinjiang (Fujian province) has left 28 people dead. Over 500 firefighters and emergency crews rushed to the scene as towering flames and thick black smoke trapped workers on the rooftop.

Following the horrific blaze, Chinese President Xi Jinping demanded a swift inquiry, ordering an all-out investigation to hold those responsible accountable. Authorities have already detained the company's owner and several others. Jinjiang produces one in five pairs of athletic shoes worldwide, making this an international supply chain and humanitarian shock.
