Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said he would file complaints with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Facebook over false claims about his health and the Office of the Ombudsman.

During a press conference on Friday, Nov. 6, Remulla said he would seek the removal of accounts spreading false information for propaganda purposes. He also clarified that he had been cancer-free for almost three years after receiving messages from media friends expressing concern about his health. (Video courtesy of the Office of the Ombudsman)

00:00Fake news has been, there's been a lot of fake news lately.
00:04There's been an effect, I mean, people are trying to create doubt about the office,
00:13or maybe even the state of my health.
00:16And I think that this has to stop.
00:19And we are filing a complaint with the ICT and Facebook itself
00:27to stop the proliferation of fake news.
00:32Obviously, it's meant to influence people so that they will have a doubt on our government and this office.
00:42That's one of the things that I wanted to address today.
00:45An example would be, I'll give you a specific one, but there are many.
00:50What are the other things? Can you start it down?
00:53Have you described it?
00:54The other ones?
00:55You made it a collage, sir.
00:56You made it a collage, sir.
00:57Oh, oh.
00:58You can get it on the list, sir.
01:00Oh, and then, there's a blog which tries to give a viewpoint about the Martin Romandos case,
01:10which we do not want to discuss publicly out of respect to the Sandingan Bayan.
01:16But apparently, these people don't care.
01:18And they're trying to influence public opinion about what's happening in the court,
01:21and it's in the form of fake news.
01:27They're trying to deceive people by having all of these social media articles that actually do not reflect the truth
01:35or the full truth.
01:36So, social media is being used by our detractors, whether it's DDS or whether it's within those who have cases
01:50already for flood control,
01:53And finally, they're using social media para bagaroon ng pagdududa ang taong bayan sa aming ginagawa.
02:03It's an example na yan, ito.
02:07Well, if you look through the interviews I gave about what I went through, I think it's obvious tapos na
02:13yan.
02:17Actually, I received that, kaya ko na-alain, kasi I received that text from people in me dyan na friends
02:23ko, saying that they're paying for me.
02:26Eh kung sila naniniwala, yan, paying for me, sabi ko, thank you.
02:30But, ang sagot ko, it's been almost 3 years since I've been cancer-free.
02:37Harus 30 taon nung tapos yan.
02:39Yan lang, gusto pa rin nilang ipakalat at bigyan ng kahinaan ang aming opisina.
02:48Diba? It's a lie.
02:49It's actually, sabi nga nung friend ko na isang veteran media man, binagdabot na yung kanilang mga sinasabi.
02:57Yeah, it's a lie nito.
03:00Very, ano, very, very, ano ba ang gusto mo nang paratingin, diba?
03:05Na ganyan pa rin.
03:07So, that's just an example of how social media is being used.
03:11Kaya, ano, we're filing complaints with Facebook to take down many of these accounts that do not portray the truth
03:19and just are there for propaganda purposes and to deceive the people.
03:27No.
03:29Yeah.
