00:00Only in Britain could it fall to a man wearing a trash can to expose the weakness of the country's
00:06most popular political party.
00:08So, who exactly is Count Binface?
00:12The Reform UK leader Nigel Farage shocked the nation this week by announcing that he would resign Parliament
00:18only to contest his own seat as an attempted demonstration of his political strength.
00:23But now that all the other major political parties have ruled out standing in Clacton in eastern England,
00:28it seems Farage's most prominent opponent is going to be, you guessed it, Count Binface.
00:36Now, the man behind the trash can is comedian Jonathan Harvey, and he's been doing this for years.
00:42He stood against Boris Johnson in 2019, against Rishi Sudak in 2024,
00:47and most recently against Andy Burnham in Makerfield last month.
00:52Asked what his appeal was to the people of Clacton, he said,
00:56and not Nigel Farage.
00:58But he also has a suite of policies, including nationalising the singer Adele
01:03and capping the price of 99 flake ice cream at 99 pence.
01:08And while Farage is undoubtedly popular in Clacton, securing 46% of the vote in 2024,
01:15he is also a divisive politician who frequently inspires anyone but Farage voting
01:21among those who want to keep reform out of office.
01:25So a two-way contest runs the risk of exposing Farage as a has-been.
