00:00Well, Captain Rahman Kapoor was stuck on board his oil tanker in the Persian Gulf for two months due to
00:06the blockage in the Strait of Hormuz.
00:09It was really terrifying and it was a very devastating moment for all of us when we found ourselves that
00:14war has started and we are in between the war zone.
00:18And of course, no ordinary cargo. You're sitting on presumably tens of thousands of tons of oil.
00:28That's true, yes. We were sitting, I mean, on a ticking bomb, actually.
00:34Could you see the exchange of fire from where you were on the ship?
00:39Well, yes, we witnessed several missiles and drones flying over our head.
00:45What was that like?
00:48It was a frightening moment for all of us. So many missiles flying over our head and, you know, we
00:56witnessed explosions and, yes, it wasn't an easy moment. It was a tense moment for everyone.
01:03I'm just wondering what your phone calls home must have been like, all of you phoning home to your family.
01:10I mean, they're watching all of this stuff on the TV, presumably, and you're trying to assure them it's going
01:16to be OK and that they must have been terrified.
01:19Yes, it was. I mean, on a regular basis, we were we were able to contact our families.
01:27And yes, of course, families were worried and they were praying for our safety. That's that's what they could do.
01:33Nothing, nothing much they could do. And all I mean, they were just waiting for our safe return to home.
01:40Who's your family? Who who was back home?
01:44Yes, I have my parents, my wife, my I have kids. I have brothers. And I mean, yes, I have
01:50a huge family.
01:52I mean, you must have been worried at times that you wouldn't see them again.
01:56Yes, there were times when things went a little difficult, but somehow we managed to stay safe and luckily I
02:05reached home safe.
02:08There was this moment when hostilities stopped and the world presumably gave a sigh of relief, thinking this was all
02:16over and it's now restarted again, it seems.
02:21Yes, it is. It is very unfortunate, very unfortunate to know that things are not stopping.
02:29And many, many steps have been taken by, you know, UN, IMO and various other authorities, but still things are
02:38escalating and not not not stopping.
02:41But yes, we all know it is very tough time and very difficult time for every seafarers who are stuck
02:47inside the war zone.
02:49But but all are helpless, you know, can't can't help much.
02:55But yes, I what I know from various other seafarers, there are a few seafarers who are in really bad
03:03shape.
03:03They are not getting proper food and many other things, maybe not getting proper phone calls, not getting in contact
03:12with their families.
03:12That is really sad to know.
03:15Well, the hostilities have restarted.
03:18This is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
03:21You're an experienced sea captain.
03:24Are you going back?
03:28Well, I will not sin.
03:30No, exactly.
03:31But yes, till the time war is on, I would not prefer I would not prefer to join in that
03:37zone and ship.
03:38Once it is calm, once the war is over, definitely I would I would I would not hesitate to go
03:45back to the region.
