00:01An investigation has been launched into the death of a man following an altercation in the Calder Grove area of
00:07Wakefield on Saturday the 15th of August.
00:10The man's death is being investigated by the Homicide and Major Inquiry team and detectives are making an appeal for
00:17any witnesses to come forward.
00:19Police received calls at around 1.36pm reporting an altercation that had taken place a short time earlier on the
00:26old train line footpath off Blacker Lane,
00:28during which a man had been bitten by a dog.
00:32The 55-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died shortly after 7pm.
00:38Another 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and being the owner of a dog dangerously out
00:44of control in a public place causing injury.
00:47A warrant of further detention has been authorised for him and a German Shepherd, which is understood to have been
00:53the dog involved in the incident, has been seized by police.
00:57Police say that two people initially stopped to assist the injured man and direct officers.
01:03Detectives have now identified and spoken to those two people who came to his assistance and they've urged people to
01:09avoid speculation online.
01:11The normally quiet route, which runs along a disused railway line, remains sealed off on Monday as detectives continue their
01:18investigation.
