00:01The Government has said that it has been monitoring this situation.
00:05We have just heard about the massive disruption across the country from transport services
00:11to phone services as well.
00:14We know that the Acting Communications Minister, Christy McBain, has been in touch with Telstra.
00:20As you mentioned, we've heard from the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, this morning.
00:25He has arrived back from the Pacific after a quick tour of meeting with Pacific leaders.
00:31And he has said that the situation is deeply concerning and very disruptive to people's
00:37lives.
00:38Let's take a listen to what he had to say.
00:39Well, none of it is, of course, acceptable because it's disruptive and no one wants to
00:45see that occur.
00:47Telstra are investigating, but we're working closely with them.
00:50The 000 custodian is in constant contact with Telstra and with emergency services.
00:57And investigations are underway.
01:00And what's been the reaction from the opposition, Pablo?
01:03Yeah, well, we have heard from the opposition leader, Angus Taylor, this morning, who is
01:08trying to put the pressure on the government.
01:09He says that the Communications Minister needs to front up and answer questions about what
01:16has happened here.
01:17Obviously, we have heard from Telstra this morning, explaining what they know so far.
01:24Angus Taylor pointing to the Optus outage last year and the questions that came from that.
01:29There's questions that need to be answered from the government and they haven't been answered.
01:34And this is why people are trying to understand the situation.
01:37So, we need answers from the government, frankly, right now, and they've given nothing.
01:43And this is what we get from this government time and time again.
01:45When we had the Optus outage a number of months ago, we had nothing.
01:49We had absolutely nothing.
01:51So, give us the answers.
01:54I would encourage Australians not to use triple O, of course, if they don't need to.
01:57Of course, that's a sensible thing to do.
01:59But we need answers to these questions.
02:02And in the absence of answers, we're going to see all sorts of ideas as to what's really
02:08going on.
02:10So, we need the government to front up.
02:12Now, that point Angus Taylor just made around encouraging Australians not to call a triple
02:18zero comes after the Telstra boss also, or the acting Telstra boss, also encouraged people
02:25not to call a triple zero.
02:27They were investigating reports of some issues there, particularly in WA.
02:32We know that all telcos are required to notify customers and emergency services of any major
02:40outage, and that Australian phones are also required to fall back to other networks for
02:45triple zero access.
02:47But we did hear earlier today from the Shadow Communications Minister, Sarah Henderson, who
02:53appeared on Sky this morning.
02:56And she said that despite this advice, she tried to call triple zero.
03:01She said, in relation to triple zero, I actually tested it myself.
03:05Telstra is making very clear, please do not test triple zero.
03:09The triple zero network, I understand, is sound and working.
03:12I had a couple of failed calls this morning.
03:15So, following that revelation from the Shadow Communications Minister, Angus Taylor, they're
03:22saying that he would encourage Australians not to call triple zero, particularly given this
03:28uncertainty at the moment.
03:31That's certainly the advice as well from authorities, Ross.
03:33But we are having a couple of failed calls.
03:35We have a couple of failed calls.
03:36That's in relation between two and three months.
03:37The Shadow Communications.
