00:03I'm Lacey Hawthorne and I'm Candace Lamb and we're with D210 Sports and we just
00:08wrapped up day one of the Big 12 media days. With just eight teams here the
00:12energy was really high and Big 12 has some big things in store for us this
00:15season. Here's a few of our takeaways from day one. So there's been a lot of
00:20discussion about expanding the college football playoffs from 12 teams to 24
00:25teams. There was unanimous vote within the Big 12 to expand to 24 teams and had
00:31this been the case last season the Big 12 would have had five teams in the playoffs
00:35rather than just one Texas Tech who won the championship last season. And the
00:41biggest thing that the coaches said that excited them the most was the matchups.
00:46These are going to be great matchups. The fans are wanting this so they're
00:49excited to give the fans what they want this season and also giving teams that
00:54deserve a chance to be in the championship game that chance. So I had a chance to
00:59speak with Colorado's head coach Deion Sanders about the culture that he's
01:04continuing to shape at Colorado and just cutting out that outside noise for his
01:09players especially after going three and nine last season and then being
01:13recently snubbed out of the Big 12 all season pregame awards. And he says that not
01:19to worry about that outside noise and that's what he preaches to his players and if
01:24they start to worry about things like that, then they have a bigger problem. So main
01:28takeaway was they don't care about the outside noise. They don't care about the
01:32outside opinions. They just focus on what they have going going in-house in that
01:37locker room and moving forward to this upcoming season. And he says he's excited
01:41about this season and what that looks like for them. Another takeaway was the
01:47coaches were asked about the importance of their players playing overseas and the
01:51theme of the conversation was they think it's important for their players to be
01:56able to go over there and have that once in a lifetime experience. Coach Prime also
02:00says that he would love for the Buffs to be invited to have that experience. And with
02:05NIL these days, these players will be able to fly their families out and help cover
02:09expenses with that. So that'll be very interesting to see. Yes, maybe we can go to
02:13one. Yeah. Now what I loved most was not that they have 38 players that was drafted from the
02:20Big 12 in this year's NFL draft. That was great. What I liked was BYU's head coach Kalani Satake saying
02:27that no matter what, outside of football, they want these guys to have something else that they're
02:32confident in as far as career and that they impress upon these players to get their degrees as well.
02:38That's a wrap on day one of Big 12 Media Days. We'll see you for day two. I'm Lacey Hawthorne.
02:43And I'm Candace Lamb with D210 Sports and you've been credentialed.
