00:06Let me tell you all a story about my Uncle Gene.
00:09See, Uncle Gene was just 16 in 1953.
00:14He was a junior at Humes High School in Memphis, Tennessee.
00:18When he met this kid in English class who changed all history.
00:23So come on my friends, I'll take you back again in my rock and roll time machine.
00:34It was Friday night in Memphis, 1953.
00:39I was bumming smokes and spiking cokes and bopping at the teen canteen.
00:44He came strolling down the front door wearing pink on pink on black.
00:49With hair shined up and slickered out like a brand new Cadillac.
00:54His mama named him Elvis and he was a shy and skinny cat.
00:59He was gonna be the king someday, but he hadn't done it yet.
01:05Before Elvis was the king, he was just a high school teen.
01:15Before that's alright and go, can't go.
01:19He was just a kid in funny looking clothes.
01:24You wouldn't have believed it, if you could have seen, before Elvis was the king.
01:35Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
01:36Look out now, I'm gonna tell you a little bit more.
01:38Here we go.
01:39Mmm, we'd always call him sissy boy, but the girls are fascinated by the way he raised his upper lip.
01:47Somehow it drove her crazy.
01:49He had an old beat up six string guitar with a rocky little sound.
01:54When he played a high school talent show, he tore the whole house down.
01:59Nobody ever saw him come, least of all was me.
02:04Till I saw him shake and rattle the world on national TV.
02:10Before Elvis was the king, he was just a high school teen.
02:18Before he ever made his story, it was metal sharp, math and chemistry.
02:29You wouldn't have believed it, if you could have seen, before Elvis was the king.
02:38Now rock it, little king.
02:58Before Elvis was the king, he was just a high school teen.
03:08Before Hollywood lost Vegas and the world.
03:13It was driving shorts, backseats, and trying to kiss a girl.
03:19Now you wouldn't have believed it, if you could have seen, before Elvis was the king.
03:28No, you wouldn't have believed it, if you could have seen, before Elvis was the king.
03:38That's just how Uncle Gene told it to me.
03:41And that's alright.
