This video explores the controversy around 'game-breaking' DLC, using The Last of Us Part 1 as an example, and contrasts it with Rockstar's seemingly more balanced approach for the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition.

00:00Remember in The Last of Us Part 1, where you could pay $10 extra to boost your crafting, healing and
00:05reload speed and make your rifle clips bigger?
00:08In other words, you got the privilege of skipping the game's natural progression curve, undercutting the tension of those early
00:14survival sections because you'd paid extra for the Deluxe Edition.
00:18Well, thankfully, it looks like Rockstar is avoiding that with GTA 6's Ultimate Edition.
00:23Buried deep in Rockstar's GTA 6 promo, I spotted this line, Ultimate Edition bonuses become available to Jason and Lucia
00:31across their story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.
00:36Could it be? Has Rockstar really broken the curse of the ill-considered Deluxe Edition bonus?
00:41For GTA 6, Rockstar seems to have actually thought about the balance issues.
00:45The Ultimate Edition and pre-order bonuses appear to be mostly cosmetic, but there are hints of more meaningful gameplay
00:53perks too.
00:54A handgun with an enhanced scope, vehicle shops with exclusive mods, and a gang shop with some special items and
01:00distinct contraband, for example.
01:02But instead of dumping all those extras on you the minute you boot up the game, the Ultimate Edition apparently
01:08unlocks them as GTA 6 progresses.
01:11Just like additional content should, whether or not you've spent extra money to access it.
