00:00We made an omelette go viral, so I'm proud of that.
00:02Lionel, lovely to meet you.
00:03You too.
00:04It's done so much, this show.
00:05Like, it had a global fashion trend with Chef Corps.
00:08It made an omelette go viral.
00:10Like, you guys became global stars.
00:12What are you most proud of?
00:13Well, I didn't think about that, and it's true that we made an omelette go viral, so I'm proud of
00:18that.
00:18No.
00:19I think I'm proud that this show, despite all of these things of how big it got and how much
00:26it meant to all these people outside,
00:27it remained small, and at the Nucleus Incorporia, it remained true to itself, despite where the...
00:34You get to a place where there's so many expectations that get put on it because people take ownership,
00:38and we told the story in the way that Chris and Joanna and all the writers wanted to tell it,
00:44and it remained true to its track, and we got to get through the entire story, get to five seasons,
00:50and end the story and say goodbye on our terms.
00:52Did it feel...
00:53Did it still feel...
00:54Because it became such a global phenomenon.
00:55Did it still feel small between you guys, even when you got to season five, even though it was this
01:01massive show?
01:02Yeah, I think that was the coolest thing to me.
01:04I remember after season one, there's this, like, explosion that kind of happens.
01:09And because we...
01:10There wasn't...
01:11Yeah, there's no way of knowing.
01:12There wasn't a big star or any of these things that you usually use that, like, gives you a signifier.
01:17And so after that season two, going into it, I feel like even though no one said it, we all
01:23kind of had this thing of, like, I wonder, will this affect anything?
01:26And then after season two, winning all these awards, and it's even bigger than season one, you're like, will this
01:30change the dynamic between anyone?
01:32And it never did.
01:33And it remained that.
01:34Yeah, and after season two, I was like, well, we weathered this storm in that way, so I think that
01:40this show, we're across that line.
01:42We're going to remain the way we are.
01:44We're going to stay small.
01:45And it's just a group of people who care about what really matters, if you ask me.
01:49It's an experience you guys just have between you for the rest of your life, which is so sweet.
01:54Yeah.
01:54It's so special.
01:55It's so special.
01:55Obviously, Marcus starts off season one wanting to become, well, becoming this, trying to become this amazing pastry chef.
02:03But by season five, do you think he's learned anything other than being a great pastry chef?
02:09I think he's learned so much more than being a great pastry chef.
02:13And that's the beauty of this show, because it's also, it's about people balancing work life with, like, the reality
02:21of the life at home and, like, finding a place for it to, you know, let these emotions pass through.
02:26He had his mother pass away.
02:28He had to deal with grief.
02:29He's also won these awards.
02:31He's learned, he's grown in so much, in so many ways, more than just in the kitchen.
02:36I think, yeah, I think the thing to me that he, I feel personally most proud of, of where he
02:43grew, is, like, how he takes up space in his own ways.
02:47Like, as just a person being in the kitchen, out of the kitchen, he's doing things on his terms.
02:51And I think by season five, that comes to a culmination.
02:54You really feel Marcus has come to his own.
02:57It's like, you see it reflected in the desserts.
02:59You see it reflected.
03:00It's a little prickly, but then by the end, you see, like, oh, yeah, this is just a person existing
03:05who is, like, taking ownership of the things he, what's important to him and what he wants to do.
03:10Yeah.
03:10You must have, you've been around now.
03:12You've seen how much people love this show.
03:14Like, fans are crazy about it.
03:16They make pilgrimages to go and, like, see where it is.
03:19Have you got a show or anything like that that you love as much that you're like, I want to
03:23go and visit where that was inspired by or anything?
03:25I have so many shows.
03:26I'm, like, a fan of, like, shows and movies first.
03:29The Bear is, it's cool for me because I'm a fan of the show.
03:32If I wasn't on the show, I would be one of those people, like, I need to go to Chicago.
03:36I need to follow in this Marcus guy's footsteps in Copenhagen.
03:39I remember in COVID, I had never watched Six Feet Under, the HBO show.
03:44And I remember I just ran through it, like, nonstop in just, like, four episodes a day.
03:49And after I finished it, I live in L.A., I was, like, looking up.
03:52I wonder what was this house that they all, this whole show was set in.
03:55And I was, like, oh, it was 20 minutes away from me.
03:57So I, like, drove there after, parked on the street and was just, like, wow, look at, this is a
04:01house.
04:02And after a while, the neighbors started to come out, like, what is this person just, like, is it a
04:06case in a house or what?
04:07And I felt a little weird, so I just went home because I was, like, this is a little creepy.
04:11You can't just, like, look at someone's house.
04:13I mean, we've all done it.
04:14I've done it as well.
04:15When I've been to L.A., I'm like, where's this?
04:17But I want to go to Chicago.
04:18I want to do the little pilgrimage to Chicago and see the better inspiration because I bet that's, like, amazing.
04:24That's what's cool, too.
04:25Like, people who come and tell us, they, like, they went to Chicago.
04:28The show made Chicago a destination in a new way where it's, like, you want to go there.
04:33Or even people went to Copenhagen because of the episode.
04:35It just means so much.
04:36Yeah, for sure.
04:37Who, by the way, gave the best rap gift?
04:40Did you guys do anything like that?
04:42We got, they, the crew, they always get pulled together a nice, like, goodie bag of gifts.
04:50I say that to say I didn't get the secret.
04:53Maybe someone got a good gift that I didn't get.
04:56I didn't get the good one.
04:58No, I'm kidding.
04:59Jeremy did a nice thing, though, on the, like, one of the closest to the end of the shoot where
05:05he got shawls.
05:06And Joe's, Crab Shack, these two great seafood restaurants to cater at lunch where it's just, like, an endless amount
05:13of, like, the finest, like, crab legs, just, like, desserts.
05:16It was just, like, this whole spread that was incredible.
05:18So I think that was, that might have, and I was jealous because then they're looking at me like, well,
05:23what did you get for us?
05:24And I'm like, a hug.
05:25A hug.
05:27That's what people would get from me.
05:29That's all I can afford.
05:32Who, then, out of the cast, actually, do you think throws the best, like, dinner parties?
05:38I think Matty, maybe, by default, because he's a good chef.
05:42But I think also Eben, because Eben's also quietly probably the best cook aside, Matty aside, of the group.
05:49Eben, that's the irony is his kitchen, his character's never in the kitchen, but he loves to cook.
05:53He loves to host, and he's, like, just all around, like, it's fun.
05:57He's, like, very hospitable.
05:58He's, like, come on, like, let's do it.
06:00So I would say Eben.
06:01I need friends like that.
06:03Just invite me.
06:03I don't enjoy cooking.
06:04I'm not good at it.
06:05Same.
06:06Are you not?
06:06Well, I learned a lot from the show, but, yeah, I'm definitely the friend who's, like, I'll come over, and
06:12I'll talk to you while you guys cook.
06:14I know Eben said, actually, he is going to miss, like, specifically walking in his Adidas high tops.
06:21Is there, like, a specific thing about Marcus that you are going to miss?
06:26I think I will miss each season getting to learn and hone in on a specific dessert because I feel
06:34like that was a cool thing with this character is that he starts not really knowing much about the dessert
06:39world of pastries or any of these things, so he's learning techniques season to season.
06:43So because of that, Miss Proxy, I had to, each season, I got to, like, practice and learn, take so
06:49many techniques with me.
06:50So I kind of, I will miss that every season, reading the scripts, being like, oh, this is what he's
06:55doing.
06:55Cool.
06:56I get to, like, dive in and get really good at making this specific dessert.
06:59So I have, like, four desserts I can do and nothing else in the world.
07:02But it's changed your life, right, this show?
07:04One hundred percent.
07:05Yeah.
07:05It's, like, I've been reflecting on it.
07:07It's been five years.
07:08It's, like, I think for everyone, we're constantly moving forward.
07:12Five years is wildly different for every single person.
07:14But to go into a rocket ship and to be able to look left and right with these people you're
07:19in a rocket ship with, I think, to me, that's the biggest change is now I've left with a more
07:23extended family.
07:24Wow.
07:25Shoot for the moon.
07:26I know.
07:26Shoot for the moon.
07:27Yeah.
07:27Because, yeah, what a journey you guys have been on.
07:30Good luck with this final season.
07:32Yeah, it's been a ride.
07:33Yeah, yeah.
07:34Wow.
07:34Yeah, it's over now.
07:35Thank you so much.
07:36Lovely.
07:36Lovely to meet you.
