00:00I can't help but think that it's just strange timing to me to bring back Conor McGregor now, right?
00:06They got to do it at some point, right?
00:08And I understood not doing it on the White House card because, you know, whatever, they weren't selling that.
00:13Like, it was just that was a different type of card.
00:16But if I'm going to bring Conor back and, you know, he's only got a couple of fights left on
00:20his contract, I'm not going to bury it in the World Cup.
00:25Now, maybe they could build off the World Cup and try to piggyback this.
00:28And, you know, they've been doing it all.
00:31What a big day in sports it's going to be and et cetera.
00:34But I guess there's no perfect time to do it.
00:38But I guess I'll ask you, in the MMA world, are, like, people, like, really buzzing about this?
00:43Like, is there massive hype?
00:46Yeah, I mean, I've, you know, just walking around in my daily life, I have had a few people come
00:53up to me and talk to me about the return of McGregor, asking me, does he have a shot?
00:57You know, because he does bring buzz, no matter what.
01:01Yeah.
01:02I think, basically, the UFC, they're trying to make a big splash on International Fight Week.
01:08That's kind of, it used to be, they would do, like, the Ultimate Fighter finale.
01:12They would have a Friday card, that Saturday card.
01:15It used to be crazy.
01:16International Fight Week used to be insane.
01:18Sometimes they'd have three cards in a week.
01:20And they'd have a big convention and stuff, too.
01:23Like, all the fighters would be there.
01:24It was, like, a massive thing.
01:27You'd have Kobe Bryant there talking to the fighters.
01:30You'd have all kinds of celebrities.
01:32So, yeah, it's a little bit different.
01:34But, I mean, they get, they have the extra week to build.
01:38It is Conor McGregor.
01:39He's fighting Max Holloway, which is a crazy fight.
01:42I think I mentioned on this show last time, you know, he could have fought Michael Chandler.
01:47Like, he could have came back and kind of got a layup fight.
01:50But he's coming back to fight Max Holloway.
01:52So, he's coming back to fight one of the best guys in the world right now.
01:56And, you know, he beat Max in the past.
01:58That was about 10 years ago now.
02:01Obviously, we've seen where Max has gone since then.
02:03And, you know, Conor's been off a long time.
02:06But it is still Conor McGregor.
02:07There is still going to be a ton of buzz.
02:09Once next week hits and once, you know, it's fight week, you are going to see a lot of buzz.
02:15And it's still going to be huge.
02:17I mean, it's still Conor McGregor.
02:18I know the World Cup's going on.
02:20But Conor McGregor is up there in terms of celebrity amongst the athletes.
02:25So, yeah.
02:26He's international, too, which helps, right?
02:29Yeah, absolutely.
02:29It's not like just, if it was just like Sean Strickland or something.
02:31It was just an American guy.
02:33It would be a little different.
02:34So, they can play into it.
02:35And, listen, I'm seeing, I'm seeing that Conor does get them attention, right?
02:40Conor's in the mainstream media.
02:41You see him popping up right now.
02:42He's got, like, promos and commercials running, et cetera.
02:45So, he's, you know, he's a great businessman.
02:48But there is a fight to be fought as well.
02:51And, you know, obviously there are numbers.
02:54But what I'm curious about, I'm looking at, I bet online, I'm looking at the total for the fight right
03:00now, two and a half.
03:02So, I got to tell you, they got a low price here right now.
03:07They've got Max Holloway, minus 235, Conor McGregor, plus 200, over, under two and a half, total rounds, two and
03:15a half, plus 110, to the over, under two and a half, is minus 130.
03:22I mean, there's a sort of a thought that Max Holloway is going to, like, you know, beat him up,
03:27right?
03:28I mean, but you and I talked about it, you know, we've been talking about it for a while, that
03:31it is Conor McGregor.
03:32He is extremely skilled.
03:33Kavanaugh's a great coach.
03:34They're going to have a game plan.
03:36The question is, how long can that game plan last, right, as the fight goes on?
03:41But, like, put it this way, how do I not bet over two and a half here?
03:47Like, is Max Holloway really going to drop Conor McGregor or sub him right away?
03:51I don't think he's going to sub him, because I think he wants to beat him up for 25 minutes.
03:56Yeah, and, I mean, looking back, obviously the last two fights with Dustin Poirier, they both ended pretty early.
04:03Obviously, the broken leg in the last fight.
04:07But Poirier's different.
04:08Poirier's more of a go-for-the-kill right away.
04:11You know what I mean?
04:11It was kind of a different style of fighter.
04:13Yeah.
04:14Yeah.
04:15And, again, like, that was, you know, Conor, that was a very bad version of Conor.
04:19I mean, if you looked at Conor back then, he was doing everything wrong.
04:23It was a drunk and coked up.
04:24Let's call it.
04:25It was a drunk and coked up Conor, right?
04:27It was the end of the line part.
04:28At least right now.
04:29It was the party Conor.
04:30He is.
04:31Right, exactly.
04:32He is.
04:33He appears to be sober to some extent.
04:36You know, he's, you know, religious now.
04:39He's talking about Jesus.
04:40He's talking about all these things.
04:42Trying to be a family man.
04:44So, it does look like he is doing the right thing.
04:47So, I expect Conor to come in here.
04:49Oh, he looks in shape, Tom.
04:50Yeah, he looks in great shape.
04:51Like, he is.
04:52But you know better than anyone.
04:54And I'm not, you know, Mr. Universe here.
04:56But, like, looking in shape doesn't win fights, right?
04:59He hasn't fought in a while.
05:00That's true.
05:00You can look great.
05:01It's a long time.
05:03Yeah, you can look great.
05:04But once you start getting punched in the face, the gym doesn't matter anymore.
05:08Yeah.
05:09But, you know, going back to the over two and a half, like, Max is a guy that's known to
05:13draw out fights.
05:14I mean, a lot of his finishes come late in fights.
05:16You know, and he's gone the distance.
05:18He's gone five rounds with guys where he's landed 500 strikes.
05:21I remember when he fought Arnold Allen.
05:25I think, was it Arnold Allen?
05:26No, it was during COVID.
05:29It was one of the guys from New England.
05:31I can't think of his name right now.
05:33But he, you know, I was playing DraftKings at the time because we weren't even able to bet the fights.
05:38And he scored, like, over 200 points on DraftKings because he landed, like, somewhere in, like, the 500 strike range.
05:44Like, it was crazy.
05:45And that fight still went five rounds.
