BUFFALO HEADBUTTS CROCODILE OUT OF THE WAY IN RARE SAFARI ENCOUNTER

WITH PIX AND VID

BY SHUK YEE TSANG

A stunned wildlife photographer captured the remarkable moment a buffalo casually headbutted a young crocodile out of its path.

Michelle Broadhurst, 57, an amateur wildlife photographer from Gauteng, South Africa, filmed the unexpected encounter while on a self-drive safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa, with her partner, Jacques Joubert, 63.

The footage shows a young crocodile lying in a dry riverbed as a buffalo approaches.

Rather than walking around the reptile, the buffalo lowers its head and flicks the crocodile aside before calmly continuing on its way.

Michelle, who has spent around 17 years photographing wildlife, said the encounter happened so quickly she could hardly believe what she had witnessed.

She said: "A young crocodile was lying in the riverbed as a buffalo approached.

"Instead of simply walking around it, the buffalo lowered its head and tossed the little crocodile out of the way.

"It all happened so quickly that I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My first thought was, 'Did that really just happen?'

"Whenever I see animals interacting, I keep my camera ready because you never know what might unfold.

"This was a first for me. I've spent many hours watching wildlife in Kruger National Park, but I'd never seen a buffalo toss a young crocodile like that before.

"One of the things I love most about spending time in the bush is that nature is completely unpredictable.

"Even after countless safari trips, there's always something new to witness.”
