00:01More than 300 participants from 10 countries took part in the Petaling Jaya International Tower
00:08run 2026 on June 21st, scaling 552 steps across 25 floors of Manara MBPJ
00:17in a test of endurance, strength and determination.
00:21Held in conjunction with Petaling Jaya's 20th anniversary celebrations,
00:26the event attracted competitors from Singapore, Myanmar, Philippines, Kenya, Australia, India, Vietnam and New Zealand.
00:3679-year-old visually impaired Michael Tam completed the climb alongside his brother Jimmy.
00:42Michael, who trains on the stairwell of his high-rise apartment, said the event represented more than just physical fitness.
00:50I think that tower run is very good, especially for the blind.
00:53You know, I stay in high-rise, in Palm Court, you know, 17th floor.
01:00I can practice on my own without a pacer.
01:04Actually, I've done a marathon also in January the 18th, you know, in Pota Twin City.
01:10But without a pacer, I cannot do.
01:12But this one, I can.
01:13You hold the railing and you can walk up.
01:17I take double step up, you know, because, you know, I want to keep myself healthy.
01:21And I also, at this age, I also want to know that I still can able to do it.
01:27And also, I want to encourage more people to participate in this tower run.
01:31Malaysia's world number one tower runner, Soh Wai Ching, defended his title after finishing the race in one minute and
01:3853 seconds.
01:40He continues to hold the course record of one minute and 49 seconds, set in 2024.
01:48First of all, it's home of the world champion because I got my world champion in 2024 and I've been
01:52training here since 2022, actually.
01:55So then, I love this place.
01:56It's definitely the home ground of tower running sport where we grow the sport from here.
02:02And Pertalingjaya City Council have been very kind and hosted all of us here for the past 140 over weeks,
02:09every Saturday without a miss.
02:10From 5.30 to 7 p.m., we have about 2,000 people climb these buildings and more than 100
02:15floors, they climb four times up.
02:16So this is a symbolic or the iconic building for PJ and for tower running sport.
02:21We are grateful with Datuk Bandar support, the former Datuk Bandar and the current Datuk Bandar.
02:26We hope this iconic Menara PJ can be the place where we grow the sport in Malaysia all the way
02:34to the whole Malaysia.
02:35That's the whole goal.
02:35Pertalingjaya Mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Saminggon said, tower running has become one of the city's signature sporting events,
02:43adding that the City Council organizes weekly training sessions every Saturday to encourage healthier lifestyles among the residents.
03:18aktiviti rekreasi.
03:20The tower run also featured community and welfare programs, a food festival, live performances and environmental initiatives
03:28with the aim to promote a healthier and more sustainable city.
