00:01Two three-story shophouses along Jalan Perak in Georgetown were extensively damaged in a fire on Thursday afternoon.
00:10Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Operations Director John Sagun Francis said the corner shophouse sustained about 90% damage,
00:19while the adjacent unit was 80% destroyed.
00:22He said the department received an emergency call reporting a fire at a restaurant on Jalan Perak at about 12
00:30.32pm.
00:31Firefighters arrived within minutes and brought the blaze under control by 12.44pm.
00:37The fire affected two units in the row of three-story shophouses.
00:41No casualties were reported in the incident.
00:45Firefighters, however, rescued a man from the third floor of one of the shophouses during the operation.
00:50The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, escaped unharmed and did not suffer any injuries.
