00:00Hope is kept alive for this bunch of under-17 players via sporting group Flair Elite.
00:05They've arranged a trip for the players to compete at the Sir Garfield Sobers Under-19 International Tournament in Barbados.
00:12Imran Khan, who has played at the competition before, believes it's a good opportunity for them to improve their skills.
00:19They came off a four-team tournament, which was helped with the training at the cricket board, which is, you
00:23know, kudos to them.
00:25I think it's a great initiative from the training at the cricket board.
00:27We're having a four-team tournament. Unfortunately, they don't have a regional under-17 tournament this year.
00:33So these guys would have been probably left behind in this age group here.
00:38But I think the opportunity for them to go to Barbados to play this under-17 tournament as a unit.
00:45Some of the guys who perform well in the under-17 tournament, I think they have opportunity to go and
00:50showcase their talents.
00:51He explained that they are expected to come up against the teams around the world.
00:55And it's not going to be a walk in the park for the players.
00:58To be honest, it's always a competitive tournament.
01:01Myself played many years ago, but it's still competitive.
01:05That team's from England, Australia, States, you know, so even teams from Australia as well.
01:10So I think it's a fairly good tournament and I think it will offer good to these guys.
01:15Apart from Khan, the team is also mentored by Lendal Simmonds.
01:19The players are therefore well-prepared.
01:21Some of them will be returning to the Sir Garfield tournament as well.
01:26I participated in the tournament for the past two years and I know what the tournament is capable of.
01:32And I know it's not easy, but it's a very fun tournament and meet people from around the world.
01:38Alright, so you participated as in you would have done wicked keeping in this competition as well?
01:42Yeah.
01:43Alright, so you know some of the players that will be competing.
01:45Alright, so how are you able to lend your advice to the other players for this competition?
01:50Well, how the tournament works is games in consecutive games.
01:58So it will be like two games in a row and then a rest day.
02:02So, I mean, fitness will play a key part in this.
02:04The opportunity to partake in the competition has left a sweet taste in the mouth of parents.
02:10I'm excited about this tournament.
02:12I'm very appreciative of this tournament.
02:14Play elite sports.
02:16Amazing, amazing opportunity.
02:18Granted, these young individuals, these talented cricketers,
02:22I think it will do well for their personal development
02:24and I will think it will also do well for the development of the sport as a whole.
02:28I think we have to invest in young people.
02:30We invest in them as best as possible and give them opportunities.
02:35Without opportunities, they can't develop.
02:37They can't show their potential.
02:38They can't show their talent.
02:39Sabir Ali at Flair Elite believes this initiative will play a key role in the development of the athletes.
02:45He also says it's the start of bigger things to come.
02:49I think cricket as an initial point to start is a fantastic area of sports entertainment.
02:57Every household plays cricket, windball cricket, highball cricket.
03:02I think it's to continue from there.
03:03The momentum has already begun.
03:06Football is the next major sport in Sharanad.
03:09Fighting to start in those two areas first.
03:13We can reach the widest class for us as possible.
