A protest on the steps of the U.S. Capitol ended with the arrest of Air Force Major Jason Watson after he publicly called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Before being taken into custody, Watson defended his actions by saying, "Our Constitution binds us all together as Americans. Like countless veterans before me, military members serving now, I've devoted my life in service to our Democratic Republic." He added that he had always honored his oath to protect the nation but argued that "the greatest threat to our Democratic Republic is not a foreign one. It is us." Watson further stated, "The burden of that culpability is much heavier for some amongst us than others... the bill must come due." He accused the administration of constitutional violations and abuse of executive power, while supporters described his actions as a stand for constitutional accountability. Authorities arrested him following the demonstration at the Capitol.
