00:00Hello everyone, this is William Chambers. It is good to be here with you all. It is always good to
00:04be here with you all with men and women who love to hear the Word of God.
00:10I'm excited to help us today. Today we're talking about, if I had a title, we're talking about Faithful Watchmen
00:18Never Abandon Their Post.
00:22Oh, God has given you a post, believer. Oh, you should stand at your post and never abandon it.
00:28Oh, do you know where your post is? Most believers don't know where that post is.
00:33Then there are some who know where their post is, but they don't attend to that post.
00:39Anyway, let us just dive in. In ancient cities, there were watchmen that stood guard and guarded the walls of
00:48the city.
00:48Their job was simple. They were to stay awake.
00:53They were to stay alert and they were to stay on post.
00:57Spiritually transfer the believers to stay spiritually awake, spiritually alert, and on their spiritual post.
01:07Anyway, moving on.
01:08The safety of the entire city depended upon the watchmen.
01:16Spiritually speaking, the safety of our world depends on the watchmen.
01:22If you don't believe that's true, Abraham prayed, if there's 50 men in the city, if there's 40 men in
01:28the city, 30 men, 20 men in the city of Sodom and Gomorrah,
01:31when you burn the city, God said, if there's 10 men in that city, I will not burn it up.
01:35The city's safety was predicated on there being people of God, righteous men in the city.
01:41Ah, let me calm down.
01:44I gave y'all that for free.
01:46Let me get back to my lesson.
01:47So, the safety of the entire city in ancient days depended upon the watchmen.
01:53They were to watch the walls.
01:55Habakkuk says in the text today that we're about to read that he will stand his watch, meaning he will
02:02stay on post.
02:04And the question I have for believers today is, are you standing on your post?
02:10Let us look at the text in Habakkuk right here, right now.
02:14I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will
02:20say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
02:26Today, we're looking at the text, and Habakkuk is showing us an example of how we are to stand on
02:32our post faithfully.
02:33We shouldn't abandon it, and there's a posture that a watchman ought to have.
02:38Believer, if you are a believer, you are a watchman.
02:41You're watching out for danger, all types of danger that's in our culture.
02:45Ultimately, we're talking about the final judgment as well.
02:47But let's go on.
02:49There's a posture.
02:50So, what does Habakkuk show us?
02:52He shows a man that chooses his position.
02:56I choose my position.
02:57I will.
02:58I'm determined to stand my watch.
03:01Are you determined and committed to stand where God has you?
03:06Standing on your watch means staying where God has placed you.
03:11Standing on your watch means continuing your assignment.
03:15Believer, you have an assignment.
03:17This is a test.
03:18You have an assignment to do.
03:20Help us.
03:22Standing on your watch means refusing to be discouraged.
03:26Don't let...
03:26No, no, no.
03:27Although I get discouraged every now and then, let us stay on our post.
03:30You should say, I'm not going to get off my post no matter what.
03:33I'm committed to standing right here because God wants me here.
03:36I must warn men.
03:39Let me calm down.
03:40Let me calm down.
03:41Many believers abandon their post when confusion comes.
03:45Habakkuk, in this text, in the chapter before this, in chapter 1, Habakkuk was confused.
03:51Habakkuk was questioning a few things.
03:53He was struggling.
03:54Why, God, do you let me see this weakness in the world?
03:57Why does it seem like the weakness of prosperity?
03:59He was struggling with the injustices of this world.
04:01He was having some real issues, and he had to go to God.
04:05So Habakkuk was confused in chapter 1, but he did not walk away from his post.
04:12He was frustrated and didn't have all the answers and didn't know which way to turn.
04:17So he turned to God, but he did not walk away from his post.
04:23Even when he didn't understand, oh, believer, we are not to walk away from our post, no matter the situation
04:30or circumstance.
04:31So that's one thing that he shows us.
04:32The next thing that Habakkuk shows us is he shows us a man who elevates his perspective.
04:39Oh, sometimes it's not what's going on in your world that's the problem.
04:43It's how you're perceiving it.
04:46You are perceiving it.
04:47You need to look higher.
04:48You need to see things from God's point of view.
04:52Oh, Habakkuk said, I will set me upon the tower.
04:56I'm going to elevate myself above all the noise, above all the chaos, so I can look down at this
05:04thing.
05:04Oh, I can look down at this thing, hoping that God will give me his insight to see it from
05:10above.
05:11Oh, I'm going to get in my tower.
05:13You're going to need to elevate yourself.
05:14Now, what do I mean by elevating your perspective?
05:18The believer elevates their perspective through prayer.
05:21Oh, I need to be in prayer.
05:22Elevate my perspective, oh God.
05:24Through the scriptures.
05:25Oh, God, I need you.
05:28Looking for God to speak wisdom to you.
05:30We elevate our perspective by waiting on God.
05:35This is how we lift our perspective as believers.
05:39God lifts it by getting in the appropriate places of prayer.
05:43Are you in your appropriate place to hear from God?
05:46There is an appropriate disposition that you must be in.
05:50Oh, are you positioned to elevate, to see things as God sees it?
05:55Now, Habakkuk said, I'm going to get into my tower.
05:58That was his watch station.
06:00From the ground.
06:01If he were standing on the ground, all he would see is chaos when the enemy was coming.
06:05But if he would elevate himself, he could see what was going on.
06:09He could see danger with more clarity.
06:11Oh, sometimes all we need is elevation so I could see it differently.
06:15Oh, God, show me this thing like you see it.
06:19So in chapter one, if we read Habakkuk, we will see that he was overwhelmed by violence that was going
06:25on all around him.
06:27He was overwhelmed by injustice that was going on all around him.
06:31I'm overwhelmed by the wickedness of his day.
06:34Oh, we got wickedness in our day and it's all around us.
06:39From human perspective, everything looked chaotic.
06:43And when you look at this thing as a regular man and you see all the wickedness in our world
06:46and evil and how things go, it does look chaotic.
06:50It looks like no one's in control.
06:52It can be discouraging at times and confusing.
06:55However, that's why Habakkuk had to rise.
06:58I need a new vantage point, a new view with a broader perspective.
07:03Help me see this thing like you see it, God.
07:06Habakkuk showed us a man who expects God to speak.
07:09You must believe that God speaks to his people.
07:11He said, I will watch to see what God will say unto me.
07:14I will watch because I believe God speaks to men.
07:18Most people leave too soon.
07:20Most people leave their position too early and wonder why God doesn't say anything.
07:24He said, I'm going to stand my watch and wait.
07:27You got to wait on God sometime.
07:29I'm in this thing.
07:30I don't fully understand it, but I'm going to wait on God because I know that he will speak.
07:35Watching means patient, spiritual attentiveness.
07:38I'll be attentive, God.
07:40I know you're going to answer.
07:41I'm confused right now.
07:42I don't understand everything, but I ain't leaving my post.
07:44Things are hurting me right now, but I ain't leaving my post.
07:46Oh, Lord.
07:47Oh, I'm going through, but I am not going to leave my post.
07:50That's what Habakkuk did.
07:51And the last thing I'll talk about today is Habakkuk was a man prepared for correction.
07:57He said, I'm going to stand my post and I will give an answer unto God when I am corrective.
08:02Habakkuk expected to be corrective.
08:05He realized that his human perspective wasn't all that there was, that God was wiser than he.
08:11Oh, he came to God with humility.
08:12God, you know all things and I need you to divinely correct me.
08:16Oh, we need God to divinely correct us at many times.
08:21He said, God, I'm going to stand right here and I'm going to wait for a divine adjustment of my
08:26mind.
08:27Oh, this is transformation right here.
08:29Praise be unto God.
08:31This is transformation meaning that I am waiting for God to reshape my perspective.
08:37I need my perspective to change.
08:41The way I'm seeing things are not correct.
08:43Habakkuk said, I'm going to be part of the transformation process.
08:48This is the way I got to do it.
08:49I got to get up.
08:50I got to listen.
08:50I got to watch.
08:51I got to be attentive to God and I got to be ready to hear what he's got to say.
08:55This is the process and I'm ready for it.
08:57I'm ready for transformation.
08:58Are you ready for transformation in your watch place, in your watch station?
09:04Oh, help us believers to stay on post.
09:06That's where you'll be transformed at.
09:08That's where God will speak to you.
09:10If you read on into Habakkuk chapter three, you know that God had reshaped Habakkuk to praise.
09:15Habakkuk is now praising because he understands God.
09:18Help us, God, to be faithful watchmen and never abandon our post.
09:22That's the place where God will speak and change you from.
09:25In Jesus name we pray and say amen.
09:51Habakkuk is now praising God.
