00:00hello everyone this is william chambers it is good to be here with you all good to be with people
00:06that love to hear the word of god great is our god uh with no further ado let us just
00:13dive into
00:13the text today if i had a title for this message i would call it carrying power you don't understand
00:23oh goodness as believers we carry power that we don't understand oh as believers we carry a call
00:32that we don't understand as as believers we carry an anointing that we don't understand meaning that
00:39god has to always reveal more and more of it unto us it's not something that we instinctively come
00:46out of the wound understanding or it's nothing that we understand as we come to christ we are
00:52reveal more and more of god's divine works and power in us as time goes on today i'll be talking
00:59about samson samson had a call he did not understand power he did not understand every believer has a
01:08great calling bigger than they understand and oftentimes we mishandle this calling there is a
01:16way we are to handle the calling of god through obedience through prayer and dependency
01:21uh but as we see in our text today uh samson neglected to carry the call of god correctly
01:31uh and it led to tragic results samson reveals his strength under delilah which he was not supposed
01:39to and he puts his head in her lap she has his head shaved and his strength departs because he
01:46was
01:46not obedient to the nazirite vow which states that you shall not have your head shaven amongst other
01:53things samson has violated the nazirite vow and loses his strength so the bible says and she said
02:00the philistines be upon thee samson and he woke up out of sleep and said i will go out as
02:05at other times
02:06before and shake myself and he wished not that the lord was departed from him samson had fought the
02:13philistines many times he had grown careless and overconfident he had disobeyed the he had disobeyed
02:21the nazirite vow and had lost his strength and notice his confident language it says here i will go
02:27out as other times before samson thought that he was just going to shake himself and he was going to
02:32go
02:32out and do what he's always done he's confident there's no hesitation no prayer no pause just assuming
02:40he's just assuming that god is going to always move like he always has samson still is in motion
02:48he says i will go i will rise up and i will go what he no but what he no
02:53longer had was power
02:56you can still preach you can still teach you can still serve in the church you can still function
03:03and not realize that the power of god has left you oh god that's devastating and tragic he did not
03:11know the bible said that he was not not knowing that you're moving without heaven's backing heaven
03:16is no longer behind you god is no longer enabling you you have become you have a form of godliness
03:22but did not a power thereof i have seen it with my own eyes just moving without the power of
03:28god lord i do
03:29not want to move without your power oh samson was confident i will go out as at other times before
03:37he had confident motion without divine presence uh because he was disobedient and this is one of the
03:46most subtle forms of spiritual decline you are very confident you just have no spiritual power god is not
03:52backing what you're doing help us today samson lost his strength but he thought he still had it
03:59he was deceived i'm just gonna rise up in power and take the philistines like i've always done it
04:05he presumed on the grace of god but the bible said and he wished not that the lord had departed
04:10from him
04:11once the lord departs it's only a matter of time before everything else does as well oh
04:18here oh if you read the next text samson lost his eyes samson was bound he was brought down to
04:26grind
04:26in the prison house he had lost everything due to his disobedience and believer well we're not in
04:33dependence of god and we're not in prayer of god and we're not seeking the word and we're not seeking
04:38him regularly we lose our power and we lose everything else that comes with it as well the glory of
04:45it all
04:45help us today this is a staggering cost it's a staggering cost not to recognize the departure
04:53of god from our lives oh if you don't recognize the departure you'll never repent you still think
04:59you got it the reason why this is so tragic is because samson was a judge and samson's obedience
05:04could have uh shifted israel's trajectory long term oh what samson could have been oh lord i don't want
05:14to know what i could have been you want to be obedient to god because it's a tragedy to know
05:18what you
05:19could have been and to regret what you could have been samson samson could have shifted israel's
05:24trajectory long term this calling was carried by one man this man's private decisions matter profoundly
05:33oh with the call that we're carrying your private decisions matter profoundly your discipline matters
05:40profoundly your obedience matters profoundly your prayer matters profoundly your lining up with god
05:47matters profoundly there was many people that were dependent on samson unfortunately samson carried
05:53the presence of god without fully understanding it he carried something holy uh but he treated it as
06:00common he carried something weighty the presence of god but he treated it as common he carried something
06:06powerful yet he still carried it as common are you carrying the power of god believer but you are
06:14lackadaisical with it you're not treating it as if it is holy what you're carrying you're not treating it
06:19as you're not reverencing the power of god you're not at all in obedience submissive to it you're treating
06:26it as common help us the magnitude of what samson carried was so great that losing it dismantled his
06:33entire identity that's powerful right there when samson lost the power of god his whole identity fell apart
06:43oh believer we're nothing without the power of god help us today samson did not realize how rare his
06:50calling was he didn't realize how conditional the power of god on his life was samson didn't realize
06:56how patient god had been with him samson didn't realize how dependent he was upon his faithfulness to
07:01god uh he did not realize these things samson's trip could have rallied israel his victories could have
07:09united the tribes samson could have set samson's separation could have modeled covenant faithfulness
07:16if you look at other judges in the book of judges when the judges operated in faithfulness the results
07:22were deliverance the results were national repentance and the results were periods of rest
07:30we don't see any of that in samson's life we don't see any of that because samson he pretty much
07:37operated as a long ranger samson never produced that kind of sustained peace because his obedience was
07:45inconsistent help us samson did not realize the power that was in him and believers today don't
07:52realize their call there's so many believers with awesome calls we all have great powerful calls
07:57but we don't realize our call and we treat them as common uh we're not depending on god we're not
08:03in our word we're not submitting to god samson carry national potential inside of a personal vessel
08:10we might not carry national potential but we carry great potential in a personal vessel therefore we must
08:18be obedient if samson had understood the magnitude of what he was carrying israel's trajectory might have
08:25shifted from just basic survival they were basically surviving to sustained deliverance uh they were
08:32basically trying to survive with the philistines but they could have had sustained deliverance from
08:39the philistines if samson would have been who he would he should have been uh god help us if samson
08:47would have carried the power of god in obedience lord help us as believers to carry the power of god
08:54in obedience so we can become all that we should be amen
09:00you
