Sen. John Hickenlooper celebrated his victory in Colorado’s Democratic Senate primary, defeating state Sen. Julie Gonzales in what he has indicated is likely to be his final campaign for elected office. During his victory speech, Hickenlooper pledged to help Democrats regain control of the House and vowed to challenge President Donald Trump’s agenda. He criticized what he described as corruption in the White House, rising living costs, and ongoing conflicts, promising to push for policies he said would address the nation’s challenges. The race now shifts to the general election as both parties prepare for a closely watched contest.

00:00All right. Well, first, I want to say thank you to everybody here.
00:04So many people have known me for so long.
00:07I mean, I have the largest family that I ever could have imagined in my life.
00:11And I want to thank each and every one of you. Thank you so much.
00:17And I want to I know there's a lot of questions out there about, you know, well, what about this
00:23Democrat feels this way, this Democrat that way.
00:25Let me tell everybody that Democrats are united.
00:30Democrats are united. We're going to take back the U.S. Senate.
00:33We're going to take back the House.
00:37We're going to take back the House. And then we're going to stop President Trump in his tracks.
00:45We're going to cut back on the corruption coming out of the White House, all the attacks on our cost
00:52of living, this endless war.
00:54We're going to push back in every direction.
00:56We're going to start rebuilding this country in a way that solves our problems, doesn't make them worse.
01:05So we'll bring more of that to you later.
01:07But this opportunity, when you start looking at health care and we don't have any transparency in health care.
01:13No wonder there's double digit inflation every year.
01:16We get transparency in health care.
01:18The next thing you know, you arrest that inflation.
01:20You get universal coverage and then you can really look at, you know, making sure that we control costs and
01:26get to who knows, maybe Medicare for all or Medicaid, Medicare for all someday.
01:33I am not tired.
01:35It's been a long couple of weeks.
01:36I look at all the opportunities to go and address climate change as a as a not just as a
01:42city or a state, but as a country and recognize that the wildfires we're seeing, the incredible dry, hot weather,
01:49wildfires like we couldn't have imagined in June before.
01:52And now it's a common occurrence.
01:54We can address these things.
01:56We can take care of these things.
01:57So that's the kind of stuff we're going to look at these next six years.
02:01And I think we're going to find a strong bipartisan effort.
02:05I think there are a lot of Republican senators are going to want to stop the corruption in Washington, push
02:10back against this cost of living emergency and turn this country around as well.
02:14So that's my goal.
02:16I appreciate everybody working so hard to make sure that we get this done, get it over the finish line
02:21there.
02:22You know, a couple of those polls may look a little bit challenging there for a while, but I never
02:27lost, never lost faith in all of you.
02:30I knew you guys would step up when we needed to do when we needed it.
02:33I'm going to give my wife.
02:34Where'd my wife go?
02:36Where's my wife?
02:38Up here, Robin.
02:40Come on up here, Robin.
02:41My wife is, is worked through all this.
02:44She got a hip replacement in the middle of the last week of the campaign.
02:47So thank you for being here.
02:53And somewhere, baby Jack is around here somewhere as well.
02:56So he was an essential part of the campaign as well.
02:59Here, Jack.
03:00Come on in here.
03:02Say thank you, everybody.
03:03Thank you, everybody.
03:05Yeah.
03:07He says, what a great campaign.
03:09Great campaign.
03:11All right.
03:12Thanks, Jack.
03:14Uh-oh.
03:15He's going to trip just like I did.
03:17All right.
03:17I don't have a whole long speech to give, and I'd get distracted anyway.
03:21Thank you all.
03:22Thanks for being here.
03:23The best is yet to come.
03:25We're going to go out and start turning this country around and solving these problems and raising, working people up
03:31so that for once in the last 20 years, the American dream is within everyone's reach.
03:37All right.
03:40We're going to make sure, and, you know, the safety net, I've never liked the net because it's too wiggly.
03:45But we're going to build a solid, we're going to build a strong platform, and there's going to be no
03:51top, no limit to what people could do in this country.
03:53So you're all going to help us make us get there.
03:56Thank you so much.
