Billionaire businessman Rick Jackson has declared victory in Georgia’s Republican gubernatorial primary runoff, defeating Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones despite Jones receiving President Donald Trump’s endorsement. Speaking to supporters after polls closed, Jackson thanked voters for backing a political outsider and vowed to tackle affordability, education, and economic challenges facing Georgians. The victory sets up a high-stakes general election battle against Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, with political analysts rating the race as a dead heat and one of the most closely watched governor contests in America.

00:06Well, the SEC championship's over.
00:09On to the national championship.
00:13Thank you, Georgia.
00:15When I announced our campaign, I said,
00:18the political class protects itself,
00:21the media protects them,
00:23and lobbyists prop up the whole thing to protect their bottom line.
00:26It's a cartel, and I said, I'm coming to break it up.
00:38Well, tonight, we shattered it.
00:48Like I said then, I'm the only candidate who doesn't owe a thing to the political establishment.
00:53I don't care what special interests want, how much they beg, how much they give me.
00:58I can't be bought, and I won't back down.
01:08Tonight, you made your voice heard loud and clear.
01:12Tonight, we did more than win a runoff.
01:15Tonight, we proved the people of Georgia are in charge.
01:31Thank you to every person who believed in this campaign.
01:34Thank you to my campaign staff and leadership.
01:38Thank you to every volunteer who knocked on doors, over $250,000.
01:49Over 700,000 phone calls.
01:52Thank you for doing that.
01:56Put up signs, sent texts, hosted events, prayed for us, and stood with us.
02:04Thank you to my family, to Melody, Shane, Chad, Dana, and the grandkids.
02:18I know this has not been easy on you.
02:21I'm grateful for all that you've sacrificed for this campaign.
02:26And for my grandkids, thank you for the best TV commercial this morning.
02:40There's one other person I'd like to single out, if you don't mind.
02:44Thank you, Nick Ayers, for your friendship.
02:51And for chairing this campaign.
02:54Nick, I know you tried to talk me out of running.
02:58But once I decided to run, you went all in.
03:03And I'll always be grateful.
03:11This campaign was never about me.
03:14It has always been about the people of Georgia,
03:17especially those who feel unheard by the powerful.
03:21Tonight belongs to you.
03:23Amen.
03:26Now the primary is over, and the general election begins.
03:36Georgia cannot afford to get this wrong.
03:40We face Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta.
03:49Keisha Lance Bottoms did such a bad job as mayor.
03:52She didn't even run for re-election.
03:56She would be an absolute disaster for Georgia.
04:00When violence surged, families were afraid,
04:04businesses worried, and police officers needed support,
04:08Keisha Lance Bottoms turned her back on all of them.
04:11Keisha Lance Bottoms failed.
04:13She hopes Georgians forget what happened when she was in charge.
04:17I won't let them.
04:27I grew up in the Techwood projects.
04:30Keisha Lance Bottoms abandoned neighborhoods,
04:33just like the one I grew up in.
04:36That is unforgivable.
04:38We cannot let Keisha Lance Bottoms take that Atlanta record statewide.
04:52I know what it's like to feel like nobody sees you,
04:58especially the elite and the powerful politicians like Keisha Lance Bottoms.
05:03I had seven different stepfathers and a mother who battled alcoholism.
05:08I lived with five different foster families and attended 13 different schools.
05:13But with God's help, I built a business, created thousands of jobs,
05:18and lived the American dream.
05:32That is why this fight is personal to me.
05:35When you grow up the way I did, you never forget where you came from.
05:40You never forget the families who are working harder than ever but still falling behind.
05:46You never forget the people who do everything right and still wonder whether the system is ever going to work
05:54for them.
05:55Keisha Lance Bottoms did worse than forget.
05:58Her actions and inactions made things worse and made the lives of working families harder.
06:06I know what it means to struggle.
06:08I cannot look away from the people who are fighting those same battles today.
06:13I'm running for the young families struggling to make ends meet, wondering how they'll pay the rent,
06:20afford groceries, just keep the lights on, and still build a better future for their children.
06:26I'm running for the working mom who gets up before the sun, works all day,
06:32comes home, and gives everything she has left to her family.
06:44I'm running for that crying widow,
06:47afraid she may lose the home where she raised her children
06:50and built for a lifetime of memories because of her property taxes being so high.
06:57And I'm running for every person who feels forgotten, overlooked, or left behind
07:03by politicians like Keisha Lance Bottoms who stopped listening.
07:07This campaign is about them.
07:09It's about all of us.
07:19In November, the choice could not be more clear.
07:22Do we continue moving Georgia forward,
07:25or do we go backward to Keisha Lance Bottoms' record of excuses and failed leadership?
07:32We will lower taxes, both income and property taxes.
07:36I'll cut the taxes in half, or I won't run again.
07:39Simple as that.
07:40We will freeze property taxes immediately and then work to lower them immediately.
07:46So families are not priced out of their homes.
07:50If you bought a home, paid your mortgage, raised your family, and played by the rules,
07:56the government should not punish you because politicians can't control spending.
08:08We're going to make education a top priority.
08:14That starts with reading.
08:16Up until the third grade, a child learns to read.
08:19But after the third grade, that child is reading to learn.
08:24If a student can't read by the end of the third grade, everything gets harder.
08:28Right now, two-thirds of Georgia third graders are not proficient.
08:33This year, the legislature took steps to fix that.
08:38As governor, I'll finish the job.
08:49We will support parents.
08:52We will back great teachers.
08:54We will get politics and bureaucracy out of the classroom and put reading, writing,
09:00and arithmetic and common sense back in our schools.
09:10The two-thirds of our kids cannot read in the third grade.
09:16Those two-third kids are who I'm going to represent.
09:25We will also lower health care costs.
09:28I'm the only candidate in this rate who actually understands health care.
09:34I've spent my life in it.
09:36I know where the costs are.
09:37I know where the waste are.
09:39I know how the system works, and I know how it fails families.
09:43Too many Georgians are paying more and getting less.
09:46We can lower costs by using better technology and cutting out a lot of the middlemen who add layers and
09:53drive up costs.
09:59We're going to make sure Georgia families get quality care they can actually afford, especially those in our rural communities.
10:14We will take on the cost of living everywhere government touches your life, because it's not just taxes.
10:21It's your power bill.
10:22It's your grocery bill.
10:24It's your insurance bill.
10:25It's the cost of gas, child care, housing, and getting your kids to school.
10:30Families are doing everything right and still feeling they're falling behind.
10:34That is not because Georgians are failing.
10:37It's because government has been too expensive, too slow, and too comfortable wasting your money.
10:52As governor, I will treat affordability like a crisis, because for too many families, it already is one.
11:00We'll make housing easier to build.
11:02We'll cut unnecessary regulations that drive up prices.
11:06We'll support small businesses and local employers.
11:09And we will make sure Georgia remains a place where a young family can buy a home, raise their children,
11:16start a business, and build a future for that family.
11:27We will keep Georgia the best place in America to do business.
11:31We will recruit jobs to every corner of the state.
11:34I'll give you this promise.
11:36I will create more jobs than has ever been done in the history of Georgia.
11:52We will make state governments smarter, faster, and more accountable.
11:57Every dollar government waste was earned by a Georgian, and I will never forget that.
12:04To independents who love this state and want common sense, this campaign has a place for you.
12:10To the Democrats that are tired of high prices, rising costs, feel like they can't keep up, this campaign has
12:18a place for you.
12:18To every Republican who wants to keep Georgia strong, safe, and free, this campaign needs you.
12:35We're not building a campaign for the insiders.
12:38We are building a movement for the people, and you're who I'm going to represent.
12:52Keisha Lancebaum represents the failed past.
12:55We represent Georgia's future.
12:58She wants to take the Atlanta City Hall agenda statewide.
13:01We will continue the foundation laid by Georgia's great Republican governors for the last few years.
13:09She will make excuses.
13:11I'll deliver results.
13:21I do not need the money.
13:23I don't care about the title.
13:25I did not run for governor to join their club.
13:29I ran to break up their club.
13:37And to make a difference and impact the lives of 11 million Georgians.
13:47Every step of the way, this movement has grown stronger because it is built by hardworking Georgians who love this
13:54state, believe in its promise, and are ready to fight for its future.
13:59I'm ready for that fight.
14:01I'm ready for that fight.
14:01I am ready to lead.
14:02I'm ready to deliver.
14:04As your governor, I'll cut taxes so you can keep more of what you've earned.
14:08I'll back the men and women of law enforcement.
14:11I'll protect your children and power parents, strengthen our schools, and make sure every child in Georgia has the chance
14:19to succeed.
14:20And I will never forget who sent me there, not the insiders, not the special interests, not the political class,
14:28you.
14:38With your help, we will win this race.
14:42We will keep Georgia moving forward.
14:44And we will build a future worthy of the people who call this great state home.
14:49I am ready.
14:51Georgia's ready.
14:52Let's go win big for Georgia.
15:14God bless you.
15:15God bless Georgia.
15:16And God bless the United States of America.
