In a major legal blow to Donald Trump, the Supreme Court has ruled that states can continue counting postal ballots that arrive after election day, provided they are postmarked by election day. The 5-4 decision upheld a Mississippi law allowing a five-day grace period for mail-in ballots.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett authored the majority opinion, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and the court’s three liberal justices. Barrett noted that existing federal statutes dictate when the election must be held but place no restrictions on ballot receipt deadlines.

A furious Trump took to Truth Social, blasting the ruling as "very detrimental to honest elections" and demanding that Congress pass the Save America Act to severely curtail mail-in voting. Meanwhile, voting rights advocates and officials in states like California praised the decision as a vital victory for the democratic process.
