00:00Thank you so much. I must tell you, dear brothers and sisters, that I'm the same Al Green who believes
00:07that when people are willing to go to distant places, who will sometimes not return the way they left, who
00:14are there to defend my rights in this country, I believe they ought to be honored and respected.
00:20So would you join me now in giving a big warm expression of love and appreciation for the men and
00:26women who serve in our military? Would you join me in doing it? Would you stand with them? Let's hear
00:31it for them. They're making a difference, not only abroad, but here at home. God bless you, each and every
00:39one of you.
00:44I'm the same Al Green who believes that when people work hard, when they come early and they stay late
00:54and they do it so that I can have a convention like this, I believe they ought to be honored
01:01and respected as well.
01:02Let's give a hand to every person who had a hand in making this event possible. Let's hear it for
01:07them, please. They deserve an expression of appreciation.
01:14I'm the same Al Green, dear brothers and sisters, who believes that when you have a ruthless, reckless, lawless president,
01:25a president who says that he will cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security,
01:32when you have the chance to confront that president, you stand in the well of the Congress of the United
01:41States of America and tell that president he has no right to cut your Medicare, he has no right to
01:47cut your Medicaid, he has no right to cut your Social Security.
01:51I stand. I stand. I stand. I stand. I stand. I'm the same Al Green. I'm the Al Green who
01:58stands.
01:59And I stand because I know that in life, on the issues that are important, on the issues that make
02:08a difference, it is better to stand alone than not stand at all.
02:12I stand. I stand. I stand. I stand. I'm the Al Green who believes that a woman's place is in
02:25the state house.
02:28But I also believe that a woman's place is in the governor's mansion.
02:34And that's why I'm here to tell you, we ought to stand for the woman who's going to occupy that
02:41mansion.
02:42Let's hear it for Gina Hinojosa, the next governor of the state of Texas.
02:47Will you stand for her? Will you show her some love?
02:50Let her hear your voice wherever she happens to be.
02:54She has earned the right to be the woman of not only the house, but of the mansion.
03:02I'm the Al Green who believes that working people ought not work for $7.25 an hour.
03:14$7.25 an hour. That's pauper's pay.
03:19I'm the Al Green who believes that in this, the richest country in the world, where a man is about
03:26to become a trillionaire,
03:27I do believe that we can pay people a living wage.
03:31We need a $25 an hour wage, not a minimum wage, but a living wage,
03:37so that every person can have a decent place to call home.
03:43I am the Al Green who believes that women and only women have the right to determine what happens to
03:57their bodies.
03:59Only women.
04:01Women decide.
04:03It's your body.
04:04You decide.
04:05No one legislates that.
04:08That's your business.
04:12I'm also the Al Green who believes that who you sleep with at night is your business.
04:27I'm not coming into your bedroom, and I don't want you in mine.
04:41The LGBTQIA community must be respected to the same extent as everyone else in the USA.
04:50It's time for us to stand with our brothers and our sisters who are members of the LGBTQIA community.
04:57Trans people have the same rights as any other people in the United States of America.
05:04Stand.
05:04Stand.
05:05It is better to stand alone than not stand at all.
05:12I'm the Al Green who believes that in this country you cannot decide that you are going to cause
05:26all people who happen to speak a certain language, who happen to look a certain way,
05:34who happen to be from a certain place in terms of their ancestry.
05:38I just don't believe that in this country we should allow our Latino brothers and sisters
05:45to be suspect because of who they are.
05:49They should never be suspect because of who they are.
05:53They have every right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as anybody else in this country
05:59because we the people happens to include them.
06:04So let us give them the love that they deserve.
06:06Let's hear it for the Latino brothers and sisters who are fighting every day to make our lives better.
06:12Let's hear it for them.
06:13They deserve our respect and our appreciation.
06:20Now I'm getting close to my clothes.
06:23I have so much more I'd like to say, but I don't want to abuse the privilege that's been accorded
06:28me.
06:29But I want to tell you this.
06:32I have served you for more than 20 years in the Congress of the United States of America.
06:42I don't know that I'll ever have this opportunity to speak to you again from a podium such as this.
06:49But I do want you to know this.
06:51It has been my preeminent privilege.
06:55It has been my superlative pleasure.
06:57It has been my splendiferous honor
07:00to represent you in the Congress of the United States of America.
07:04And I thank you for allowing me the privilege of representing you in the Congress of the United States of
07:11America.
07:12I thank you for this privilege.
07:14It was an honor to do so.
07:17It was an honor to do so.
07:19It was an honor to do so.
07:22But here is the greater honor.
07:25The greater honor is for you to know
07:27that even though I did not win the election,
07:31I will vote for the person who won the election
07:33because this is the way we win.
07:36This is what we do.
07:38This is what we do.
07:40This is what we do.
07:42This is what we do.
07:45This is what we have to do.
07:48And I want you to know, brothers and sisters,
07:50as you remain standing, just remember this, please.
07:53Please remember this.
07:56In those 20 years, I've had the opportunity
07:59to cause three people to become federal judges.
08:03Three people.
08:05And I had to do it with Republican senators.
08:09Brothers and sisters,
08:10if we had had a Democratic senator,
08:16I could have had more federal judges placed on the bench.
08:20More federal judges.
08:22This is why I want you to know
08:25that I'm going to go with Tallarico
08:28because he will make the difference.
08:32With Tallarico, we can bring more judges to the bench.
08:36With Tallarico, we will have a voice in the Senate
08:39that will speak and stand for women's rights,
08:42for gay rights, for pride rights,
08:44for the rights of Asians,
08:45for the rights of all Americans,
08:47for the rights of Latinos, the rights of women.
08:49Because Tallarico knows that in this country,
08:53all persons are created equal
08:55and endowed by their creator
08:57with certain inalienable rights,
08:59among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
09:02And I want you to know
09:04that you are what America looks like.
09:06We are going to fight.
09:08We're going to win.
09:09And we will win not only for ourselves,
09:12but for posterity.
09:13We are going to bring about the domestic tranquility
09:16and the justice that is called for
09:17in the preamble of the Constitution.
09:19We are the people.
09:21This is our time.
09:23This is our destiny.
09:24We will stand.
09:26We will fight.
09:27We will win.
09:28Let us stand.
09:29Let us fight.
09:30Let us win.
09:32Let us love each other.
09:33Let us make a difference
09:35in the lives of the people in this country.
09:37God bless you.
09:38God bless the United States of America.
09:41And join me now, if you will,
09:43with this one song from Al Green.
09:45God bless America, land that I love.
09:54Stand beside her and guide her
09:59through the night with the light from above.
10:03This is our country.
10:04From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans,
10:10wide with foam.
10:14God bless America.
10:16This is our home.
10:18Nobody is more patriotic than we are.
10:20We will stand and fight for the country we love
10:23because we love the country.
10:25God bless you.
10:26God bless our country.
10:27Thank you, brothers.
