00:20A stunning reversal from the White House, the United States has abandoned plans.
00:25To seize Greenland, not because the idea locked ambition, but because it risked
00:30something far more dangerous for President Donald Trump, impeachment.
00:35According to Reuters, the threat of congressional action forced Trump to
00:40retreat from a move that could have shattered NATO and ignited a constitutional crisis.
00:45At home, since early January, Trump and his inner circle had been
00:50actively discussing ways to take control of Greenland, the strategically vital
00:55Danish territory, but alarm bells quickly rang on Capitol Hill.
01:00Lawmakers from both parties warned the White House that any attempt to seize Greenland
01:05campaign, especially without congressional approval, would trigger immediate impeachment
01:10proceedings.
01:11The message was blunt.
01:13Invade and the presidency is at
01:15risk.
01:16Just days ago, Trump was openly threatening tariffs on European
01:20allies as leverage, refusing to rule out the use of force.
01:24But on January
01:2522nd, while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President
01:30abruptly changed course.
01:31He ruled out military action, stepped back from the United States.
01:35from tariff threats and signaled that the confrontation with Denmark and NATO was on
01:40hold.
01:41After meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Ruda, Trump struck
01:45a dramatically different tone.
01:46He suggested a negotiated deal over Greenland.
01:50He suggested a trade deal over Greenland, one that would give the U.S. access to critical
01:52minerals and support a Golden Dome.
01:55missile defense system while countering Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic.
02:00Trump called it a forever deal, claiming it would satisfy all sides and
02:05secure long-term Western interests.
02:08European diplomats say the sudden
02:10shift helped defuse what was becoming the deepest transatlantic rift in decades.
02:15Trump's earlier rhetoric combined with tariff threats and territorial ambitions
02:20had shaken allies already uneasy about U.S. leadership.
02:25While the dispute is far from resolved, officials say the retreat buys time to settle different
02:30issues.
02:30strong interests behind closed doors without tanks, tariffs or impeachment hearings.
02:35springs.
02:40What are some of the elements of the Greenland cods?
02:45You can tell that there was really a negotiation, but it's
02:50infinity.
02:51The time limit is infinity, meaning there is no time limit.
02:55It's forever.
02:56It's, you know, a year about 1990.
03:0030 years, 50 years.
03:02It's forever.
03:03That was discussed.
03:05We can do anything we want.
03:06We can do military.
03:07We can do anything we want.
03:10And it's being negotiated.
03:11And let's see what happens.
03:12I think it'll be good.
03:15When the U.S. have pockets of sovereignty,
03:20over March.
03:21We have a lot of, we have a lot of, we have a lot of, uh,
03:25great things in the deal.
03:27And don't forget, they're also good for Europe.
03:30Because, you know, when we're good, they're good.
03:32And if we're not good, that's not very good.
03:35We're good for them.
03:36Because we hold it all together.
03:38We're holding it all together.
03:40Does that actually give you control of land in Greenland?
03:44Does it give you...
03:45Do whatever we want.
03:46Yeah.
03:47We're...
03:48Do whatever we want.
03:49Yeah.
03:50We're...
03:50We're all going to work together.
03:51And actually, NATO is going to be involved with us.
03:53We're going to be doing...
03:55In conjunction...
03:56Parts of it in conjunction with NATO.
03:58Which is really the way it should be.
04:00But to be clear, will the U.S. own that...
04:02We won't have any expense.
04:03Because we're not going to have expense.
04:05Other than building the Golden Dome.
04:07I'm going to build the Golden Dome.
04:09And...
04:10We'll have participation in that also.
04:12Because of the Golden Dome.
04:13We'll have participation in that also.
04:14Because of the Golden Dome.
04:15We'll have participation...
04:15We'll have participation in that also.
04:16Meaning...
04:17With the expense of it.
04:18And it'll be...
04:20We'll be like no other.
04:21I mean...
04:22You know...
04:23Our technology is aground.
04:24Is Denmark signed off on this?
04:25Or are they...
04:25On board with this concept?
04:26Is Denmark on board with this concept?
04:28I think everyone likes it.
04:30I mean...
04:31I think...
04:32I'll let you know in about two weeks.
04:33How do you speak in with that?
04:35With Denmark about this plan?
04:37The...
04:38Secretary...
04:39The Secretary...
04:40General Mark is a great guy.
04:42Brutal.
04:43He's a great guy.
04:44And...
04:45Yeah...
04:46He's spoken to everybody.
04:47And when you spoke with the NATO Secretary General...
04:49Did you...
04:50Talk about...
04:51U.S. military presence in Greenland.
04:53About military presence...
04:54We took...
04:55He went everything.
04:56And you saw him yesterday.
04:57He was interviewed on Bret Baier.
04:59And he was very happy.
05:00He was very convinced.
05:01This is a good deal for everybody.
05:02He was very convinced.
05:03This is a good deal for everybody.
05:05How did your conversation go with President Valentin?
05:08We had a conversation.
05:09I've had numerous...
05:10Conversations on Ukraine.
05:11It would be nice to end that war.
05:13We have...
05:14You know...
05:15Of course it's not...
05:15Nothing.
05:16We make money.
05:17I don't want to make money.
05:18But we make money.
05:19Whereas Biden's...
05:20Spent $350 billion stupidly.
05:22It...
05:23Lost a lot of money.
05:24But...
05:25It's not about the money.
05:26It's about...
05:2725,000 to 30,000 soldiers...
05:30A month.
05:31Mostly so.
05:32A month of being killed.
05:35Can you sign a securities...
05:36The securities deal?
05:37Are you able to sign that?
05:38It's not a secret card for...
05:39Jen...
05:40It's in America.
05:41Right now.
05:42On the way to Moscow.
05:43So we'll see how that works out.
05:44What can I make a...
05:45I've had a good meeting, but I've had, you know, numerous good meetings with President Zelensky.
05:50Doesn't seem to happen.
05:52You know, it's funny, I've put out a 35-year-old.
05:55A 35-year war in a day.
05:57A 32-year war in two days.
06:00In other words, the worst was like four days, and this one goes.
06:05On and on forever, and actually, they may have been more complex.
06:10Do you think of that trilateral, that the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine are having an opportunity?
06:15Abu Dhabi, this weekend leads to a trilateral between you, Putin, and Zelensky.
06:19Look, it's all good.
06:20Anytime we meet, it's good.
06:22If you don't meet, nothing's going to happen.
06:25They, for the first three years, nobody met.
06:28Under Biden, nobody met.
06:31And you know one thing, if you don't meet, nothing's going to happen.
06:33So, we are meeting.
06:35And we'll see what happens.
06:36I hope we can save a lot of lives.
06:40Mr. President, what kind of concessions does Vladimir, Mr. President, what kind of concession,
06:45does Vladimir Putin need to make at this point?
06:47Mr. President, what kind of concessions does Vladimir Putin need to make at this point?
06:49Mr. President, what kind of concession do you need to make at this point?
06:50Everybody's making concessions to get it done.
06:55Everybody's going to be a part of it. It's got to be a part of it.
06:57Look, it's more for Europe than for me. I mean, I'm doing this...
07:00It's more for Europe than for me. I'm doing it to save lives, number one. I'm doing it...
07:05Secondarily, for Europe, I'm not doing it so much for the... It doesn't affect us very much.
07:10Other than the loss of lives, you know, we're not affected.
07:15By this, you know, it's thousands of miles away. We're separated by an ocean.
07:20But I have an ability to get things done like this, and we'll see...
07:25If I can get it done, I mean, we... It would never have gotten done.
07:29I thought Putin...
07:30If he wanted the whole thing, maybe he does, but he's not going to...
07:33He's not going to be going there. Unless we don't...
07:35Make a deal.
07:36We had a good meeting today with President Zelensky. I think a very good meeting.
07:40What's the main holdup? What's the main holdup to getting a deal?
07:45The main holdup is the same things that have been holding it up for the last year.
07:50Look, this is a war. This is Biden's war. This isn't my war. This is a war that should have never happened.
07:55But it's complex because you have beats and bounds. You have...
08:00You have streets. You have rivers. You have everything. You know, where does it end? So it's a little bit...
08:05complicated. But I've had that in five of the other wars.
08:10You know, there are beats and bounds. There are...
08:12It's a location. It's boundaries.
08:15And I got them done fast in days. And this one is just going on.
08:20You know, what's happened here is there were times when Putin didn't want to make a deal.
08:25And it was like opposite.
08:30There are times. Now I think they both want to make a deal. But we'll find out.
08:33Did something change?
08:35That makes you think that Putin and Zelensky now are serious about it?
08:39I don't have any predictions.
08:40There are no changes. There are no changes. I think that President Putin...
08:45would like to make a deal.
08:46I think that President Zelensky would like to make a deal.
08:50What does Zelensky say today? I mean, he came all the way there...
08:55there to meet you. What did he say?
08:57He said he'd like to make a deal.
09:00I mean, you know, there's not much he could say.
09:03People know the parameters...
09:05It's not like...
09:06You know, we're discussing things that have been discussed for six or seven...
09:10months and he came and he said he wants to make a deal because I wasn't necessarily...
09:15sure. I think he should want to make a deal. It's pretty tough.
09:20It's really tough on the people of Ukraine. I'll tell you that.
09:23Mr. President...
09:24How they live...
09:25Without heat...
09:27Where it's 20 degrees below zero...
09:29You know, it's very...
09:30It's very cold.
09:31It's a very...
09:32That's a colder climate for the most...
09:35part...
09:36than Canada.
09:37But they live without heat?
09:39I asked him...
09:40I mean, how do they...
09:41How do they do that?
09:42And he gave me an answer.
09:44It's pretty...
09:45It's really amazing what they do to live.
09:47It's no way to live.
09:48Yeah.
09:49Back to...
09:50Back to Greenling.
09:51Can you elaborate more on...
09:52Just...
09:53We're trying to understand what exactly the concept is here.
09:55Is the US going to actually take ownership of...
09:57We'll have something in two weeks.
10:00There's a good spirit to get something done.
10:02And...
10:03We have to have...
10:05It's strong freedom.
10:06We have to have...
10:07The ability to do exactly what we want to do.
10:10We have a great military.
10:12I built a great military.
10:13I did this in my first time.
10:15And continuation.
10:16Big continuation.
10:17I think what we did with it...
10:20Defense companies was very important too.
10:22Because we need things faster.
10:23We have the best weapon...
10:25Americans in the world.
10:26By far we showed that...
10:27Last week with Venezuela.
10:29We have the best...
10:30Weapons...
10:31In the world.
10:32We have to make them...
10:33Faster.
10:34How would it be any different than the...
10:35Current situation.
10:36The US can...
10:37Much different.
10:38Much more detail.
10:39Much...
10:40Much more generous to the United States.
10:42It's a much more generous deal.
10:43It has to be.
10:45And we're building a golden dome.
10:47And you see the way it works.
10:49That is so much...
10:50It's better...
10:51For us...
10:52And for Europe...
10:53To have...
10:54That piece of...
10:55Our antibodies...
10:56Covered by the Golden Dome.
