00:05during protests marking the second anniversary of the Gen Z uprising.
00:10Rights Group Katiba Institute has filed a contempt case against Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja,
00:19accusing authorities of ignoring a court order by setting up unannounced roadblocks
00:24across the capital before Thursday's memorial march.
00:27The protests honour victims of the 2024 anti-government demonstrations,
00:33sparked by rising living costs and corruption, which accumulated in protesters storming parliament.
00:40The government says the roadblocks were necessary after intelligence-suggested criminal groups
00:44planned to infiltrate the demonstrations, loot businesses and attack civilians.
00:50But rights groups argue the blockade violated freedom of movement,
00:54blocked ambulances and emergency services, and unlawfully suppressed peaceful acts of the Rembrandts.
01:00The legal challenge comes as scrutiny grows over police conduct.
01:04According to Kenya's police watchdog, at least 127 people were killed during protests in 2024 and 2025.
