00:06Ever since the old DC movie universe ended, fans have been wondering what is going to
00:10happen with The Flash in the new DCU being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
00:16The character had a rough time in the later years of the Snyderverse because even though
00:20Ezra Miller's version of Barry Allen had a huge solo movie in 2023, the film just did
00:26not connect with general audiences the way many people expected.
00:30It struggled badly at the box office, and because of that, DC has clearly been taking
00:35a step back to rethink what The Flash should look like moving forward.
00:39But now, there's a bunch of fresh fan discussion happening online, because Gunn recently talked
00:45about his favorite version of The Flash.
00:48And although he avoided giving a direct answer, many fans think his comments may have quietly
00:53opened the door for something really exciting.
00:56The biggest thing people are talking about is the possibility of Grant Gustin finally returning
01:01as Barry Allen in the new DC Universe.
01:04For a lot of DC fans, Grant Gustin is still the definitive live-action Flash because he
01:09spent nine seasons playing Barry Allen in The Flash, which became one of the most successful
01:14and beloved shows from the Arrowverse era.
01:17Even though the series had its ups and downs later on, people connected deeply with Gustin
01:23Allen's version of Barry because he felt emotional, hopeful, awkward, funny, and human all
01:29at once.
01:30So when the movie version of Barry failed to really become a fan favorite, fans immediately
01:35started wondering if DC should simply bring Gustin back in some way.
01:40At the same time, though, there's another major conversation happening around Wally West.
01:46A bunch of comic readers believe that DCU should move away from Barry Allen completely, and instead
01:52focus on Wally as the main Flash.
01:55That idea has become way more popular recently because Wally's story feels different from
02:00what audiences already saw in the old DCEU.
02:04In the comics, Wally West is basically the ultimate fan dream come true.
02:09Before he became a speedster himself, he was just a regular kid from Blue Valley, Nebraska,
02:15who absolutely idolized the Flash.
02:18His aunt Iris lived in Central City, and because she was dating Barry Allen, Wally eventually
02:23got pulled into Barry's world.
02:25Then, one accident changed everything and turned him into Kid Flash.
02:31So instead of being born a hero, Wally became the sidekick to the hero he worshipped most.
02:36That's why so many people connect with him.
02:39Because Wally represents what comic fans imagine themselves becoming.
02:43He's not some distant legend at first, he is literally a fan who suddenly gets the chance
02:49to stand beside his hero.
02:50And although that sounds amazing, it also creates a bunch of pressure inside him.
02:55Wally constantly struggles with feeling like he is not worthy enough to replace Barry or
03:00carry the Flash legacy on his own.
03:02That emotional insecurity is one of the strongest things about Wally West as a character.
03:08A lot of superheroes feel larger than life, but Wally feels relatable because he doubts himself.
03:15He questions whether he deserves the suit, whether he can live up to Barry Allen's name,
03:20and whether people will ever fully accept him as the Flash.
03:24Because of that, fans think he would fit perfectly into Gunn's style of storytelling, since Gunn usually
03:30focuses heavily on flawed and emotional heroes rather than perfect icons.
03:36And that is why many people believe the DCU could use Wally West to completely refresh the
03:42Flash brand after the Snyderverse years.
03:45Instead of trying to repeat what already failed, DC could tell a newer and more emotional story
03:51centered around legacy, mentorship, and self-belief.
03:55It would also help separate the franchise from all the baggage connected to the previous Flash
04:00movie.
04:01But even though the Wally West idea keeps growing, Grant Gustin fans are still holding on to hope,
04:07because Gunn's recent comments were very interesting.
04:10During a public event for the upcoming Supergirl trailer premiere, Gunn was jokingly asked whether
04:16he preferred blondes or redheads when it came to speedsters.
04:20The question was obviously referencing Barry Allen and Wally West, because Barry is traditionally
04:26blonde while Wally is known for his red hair.
04:29Instead of choosing one, Gunn laughed and basically said he liked both.
04:35That answer may sound small, but fans immediately started breaking it down online because it suggests
04:41Gunn may actually want both Barry Allen and Wally West to exist together in the DCU instead
04:47of replacing one with the other.
04:50That might be the smartest move possible.
04:52The new DC Universe already seems comfortable using multiple heroes with the same mantle.
04:58We already know there are several Green Lanterns being introduced together, including Hal Jordan,
05:03Jon Stewart, and Guy Gardner.
05:06So the idea of having both Barry Allen and Wally West operating at the same time would not
05:11feel strange in this universe at all.
05:13In fact, it could actually create one of the strongest relationships in the DCU.
05:19Imagine Grant Gustin returning as an older, experienced Barry Allen, who has already been
05:25the Flash for years.
05:26Then beside him, DC introduces a younger Wally West learning how to become his own hero.
05:32That mentor-student relationship could become the emotional core of a Flash project because
05:38audiences would get both legacy and fresh energy at the same time.
05:43And because Grant Gustin already has such a loyal fanbase, his return would instantly create
05:48hype across social media.
05:51There's already a bunch of fan rumors, theories, edits, and discussions talking about this possibility
05:56every single week.
05:58Some fans think Gunn could bring Gustin back for a movie, while others believe a Mac streaming
06:03series or a special DCU event project might fit better.
06:08A special project feels very possible because Gunn has shown interest in experimenting with
06:13different formats inside the DCU.
06:16We already know the new universe will not only focus on giant crossover films.
06:20There are animated shows, streaming projects, smaller character stories, and even horror-style
06:26ideas being discussed.
06:28So, a Flash-focused special presentation starring Grant Gustin could easily happen if Gunn wanted
06:34to test audience reactions before committing to a massive movie.
06:39And because Gustin already spent nearly a decade building emotional connections with viewers,
06:44DC would not need to waste time explaining why audiences should care about him.
06:49People already do.
06:51Another reason fans keep pushing this idea is because Gustin never really got the huge
06:56cinematic spotlight many believe he deserved.
06:59During the Arrowverse years, a bunch of viewers felt frustrated because the TV version of Barry
07:05Allen often seemed more comic accurate and emotionally grounded than the movie version.
07:11So now that the DCU is resetting everything, fans see this as the perfect opportunity to finally
07:17reward the actor who carried DC television for almost 10 years.
07:21Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the rumor conversations are getting louder,
07:27because Gunn tends to pay attention to fan passion when it matches his creative vision.
07:32He also clearly understands comic history deeply, so he knows how important both Barry Allen and
07:38Wally West are to DC lore.
07:42That's why many people believe the smartest path forward is not choosing one over the other.
07:46Instead, the DCU could build an entire Flash family.
07:51Barry Allen could represent experience, hope, and legacy, while Wally West could represent growth,
07:57insecurity, and the next generation of heroes.
07:59That combination would feel fresh, because audiences have not really seen the Flash legacy explored
08:06properly in live action before.
08:08Most adaptations focus only on Barry becoming the Flash, but the deeper comic mythology is
08:14about mentorship, legacy, friendship, and passing the torch forward.
08:19That fits perfectly with the direction Gunn seems to be taking the DCU overall.
08:24His universe already feels more connected to comic book traditions compared to the older
08:29Snyderverse because it embraces colorful characters, emotional storytelling, and long-running superhero
08:35legacies all at once.
08:37So even though there is still no official Flash project announced yet, the future suddenly feels
08:43much more exciting than it did a year ago.
08:46Fans are no longer just talking about replacing Ezra Miller's version.
08:49Now, the conversation has evolved into something bigger, how DC can finally deliver the best
08:55live action Flash story possible.
08:58And if that journey somehow leads to Grant Gustin returning as Barry Allen alongside a new
09:03Wally West, then the DCU may finally give Flash fans the adaptation they've been waiting
09:08for all these years.
