02:35I'm always thinking about what, like, genetic and, you know, lineage course correction I can do so that my kids
02:44don't carry the burden of my baggage or my mother's or my grandmother's baggage.
02:51But that's also what the story is about.
02:53Sally went a bit too far.
02:54Magic becomes a metaphor for things that we all experience in life.
02:59The connection you feel with your family, with your kids, with your parents and stuff.
03:03There's nothing more magical than that, really.
03:07In the Owens family, Sally and Jillian are now stepping into their roles as the matriarchs and learning to embrace
03:14loss.
03:15My blood, your blood.
03:17You deal with grief, but it's done so beautifully.
03:20It's really, it's more than just a celebration.
03:23It's just like there's a naturalness to the transition.
03:26The first movie, there was a lightness to it, and this movie has a maturity to it, that with maturity
03:34comes things like grief.
03:36The theme is carried through the whole thing.
03:38It's the reason why Sally acts the way that she acts.
03:40She's like, I'm not going to experience that again.
03:42I'm not going to let my children experience it.
03:44I'm not going to let them have that pain when, in fact, that pain is an honor, I think.
03:50I think being able to grieve means you loved in a massive way.
03:53And Bullock has said art imitates life.
03:57She lost her love, Brian Randall, in 2023, after caring for him for years during his battle with ALS.
04:04This is her first film since his passing.
04:07I read that you told the screenwriters to use as much of your personal story as they wanted.
04:13Because it was going to show up whether I liked it or not.
04:15How was it for you shooting this so soon after you lost your partner?
04:19You know, it's funny.
04:23Like, I felt like I was, my process was like, you know, you just want to do the right thing
04:29for the kids, so it's almost robotic.
04:31Not until we went to England did I feel truly, like, free.
04:36Not free of grief, but I was, it was such a happy time.
04:40Like, I loved going and seeing Lee, I loved seeing their crew, I loved the girls, I loved Nick, like,
04:46every person that was there was someone whose heart I was just happy being around.
04:52So I'm just letting all the stages roll out as they come, you know, but it reminded me what a
04:58happy person I am, just by nature.
