Storytelling always plays a role in people's lives."

When asked what advice he'd give young artists building careers in the age of AI, Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl reflected on his own daughter, who recently graduated with a master's degree in screenwriting.

“If you know how to tell stories, it's a skill that will be useful no matter what,” he said at Fortune Brainstorm Tech.

00:00If you know how to tell stories, it's a skill that will be useful no matter what.
00:07I have a young daughter who just graduated with her master's degree in screenwriting from Tisch.
00:12She is a young creator, starting her career in a very difficult field.
00:17I have no good advice for her.
00:19However, there's two things that are true, which is she knows that this is all that she wants to do
00:27since she was 15.
00:29And she devoted her life ever since to do that and has written many things already.
00:34So I know she's a storyteller.
00:36The format may change, but storytelling always plays a role in people's lives.
00:42From the caveman, there was storytelling on the walls edged into the caves.
00:46So storytelling has always been there.
00:48So if you know how to tell stories, it's a skill that will be useful no matter what.
00:54How you deliver it, what the format is, what the distribution platform is, all of that may change.
00:59But if you know the essence of storytelling, it's good.
01:01So I'm actually confident that she'll succeed in some way.
01:06It's not because of any specific advice that I have for her.
01:08It's just very general advice.
01:10But I also don't know how to predict the future.
01:13My parents couldn't have prepared me for the future that I live at all.
01:17I don't think I can prepare her for that either, other than general advice.
01:21I don't know how to predict the future.
01:21I don't know how to predict the future.
