Prue Leith is known for her prowess in the kitchen, but according to her husband John, you won’t find many baked goods in their home. His (joking) regret? “I should have married Martha Stewart.” In this video, we put Prue and ‘The Great American Baking Show’ host Andrew Rannells to the test, asking if they could Make It Like Martha with an iconic recipe: Martha’s old-fashioned lemon sugar cookies.

00:00It must be wonderful being married to Prue Leath because, you know, you must get fantastic cakes.
00:04And he says, our house is a cake-free zone. I should have married Martha Stewart.
00:09That's rough.
00:10Yeah, well...
00:10We've got to talk to John.
00:11I'm Andrew Rannells.
00:13I'm Prue Leath.
00:14And today we are going to make Martha Stewart's old-fashioned lemon cookies.
00:19Well, you were on Celebrity Bake Off.
00:21Do you remember how I did? Not great.
00:23An old-fashioned sugar cookie that's infused...
00:27That does look delicious. I love a lemon cookie.
00:28Three cups of all-purpose flour.
00:30Okay, three cups of flour.
00:32I'll just hold this butter here.
00:33I met Martha Stewart once at a party.
00:35Did you?
00:35And I said, my best friend goes to Barnard.
00:38Because she went to Barnard.
00:39I was like, that'll make her love me.
00:40She went, huh.
00:42She wasn't unpleasant.
00:43Okay, what's next, Martha?
00:44Teaspoon of baking soda.
00:46Teaspoon of salt.
00:48And in the bowl of a mixer, you can soften.
00:52Two sticks of butter.
00:53Oh, God.
00:53The brown sugar or the white sugar, Martha?
00:56Granulated sugar.
00:57Do this in here?
00:58Yeah.
00:59You can add two whole eggs.
01:01One tablespoon of zest.
01:03I'll do the lemon dish.
01:05You seem strong.
01:06All the flour goes in.
01:08Yep.
01:10We're nailing this.
01:11Oh, I see.
01:12Look, we did it.
01:13She's wearing orange and you're wearing orange.
01:15What do you think is a mistake that bakers make a lot when they're baking?
01:19Well, I think the main one is that they don't read the recipe.
01:21Then they realize, oh dear, I haven't put the oven on.
01:25Or one of those things.
01:26So this is going in the oven.
01:28Yeah.
01:28Oh, and they're, look how perfect.
01:31How about eating half of one?
01:32Oh, it had a nice crack.
01:34That's really good.
01:36Very nice.
01:37We could have put a bit more lemon in.
01:38We could have put more lemon, Martha.
01:40I think you'd be proud of us.
01:41Mmm.
01:42Thank you, Martha.
01:43All right.
