Dunia masih jauh daripada mencapai ekonomi mampan sepenuhnya. Hanya sekitar 6.9% ekonomi global bersifat kitaran, manakala majoriti masih bergantung kepada model “ambil, guna, buang”. Ketidakcekapan penggunaan bahan dan pembaziran pula menyebabkan kerugian ekonomi global yang sangat besar, mencecah berpuluh trilion dolar setiap tahun, sekali gus menunjukkan jurang ketara antara aspirasi dan realiti.

02:38PART OF GOBI
02:39WE'VE INVESTED IN
02:40OVER 400 STARTUPS
02:41AND NOW WE'VE
02:42OVER 60 STARTUPS
02:43THAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED
02:44AS PART OF A CIRCURE ECONOMY
02:46WHAT'S INTERESTING
02:47IN THE PAST THREE YEARS
02:48IS WE'VE SEEN A LOT
02:48OF INDUSTRIES
02:49THAT HAVE SURGED
02:50MAMELY BECAUSE OF
02:51THE RISE OF EVS
02:53THE RISE OF BATTERIES
02:54THE RISE OF HARDWARE AI
02:55So we have companies like Lupus Energy doing battery cells all the way to the UN planet coming from China
03:03and now Malaysia too.
03:04And they're immediately, if you're looking for demand, easily, before they even ask for supply, the demand has already been
03:11blocked because they need more aluminum while people are still figuring out where critical raw minerals will be coming from.
03:16You mentioned about EV. Very interesting. That's one of my questions. But how do you square that, you know, with
03:21sustainability goals?
03:22But we still need EVs now.
03:24So, you know, I think the catch-22 about sustainability is always when you create an innovation, there's an investment
03:32period that it's not going to go straight to an inflection point,
03:36but rather sometimes some people would have detractors that would say there is a negative effect. Yes, there will be.
03:42No doubt about that.
03:44But if we have the right policies, enforcements, and the right alliances to make this happen, you can reduce that
03:50and create that sustainability long term.
03:52You mentioned about investments. Of course, you know, one of the biggest pushbacks is cost for circular economy. People say
04:01circular models are more expensive up front in terms of that. But how do you convince CEOs, for instance, to
04:07grab money and actually buy the ideas of circular economy?
04:10If there's anything that could highlight all of this, it's really what happened with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz,
04:18right?
04:18When you have an increased change of fuel prices, what ends up happening? It becomes an issue within society and
04:26everything gets priced in. Food, everything else.
04:29So if we're talking about something that we have to rely on from another country, of course, we want to
04:34have a global supply chain, then you have these questions. So that's a perfect example. COVID is another example, right?
04:40Yes. The premium of it is an investment for the future. And an investment in the future, you create more
04:46loyalty. And as you know, circular models, you actually end up staying longer, because now you're leasing the product over
04:53time. So it's really an investment. But we're seeing majority of the largest companies adopting circularity.
05:00Yeah. Everyone says AI will transform everything, including sustainability. So in practical terms, how do you see AI actually helping
05:08circular economy today?
05:11Well, I'm here with different ads from the YGL to Uplink. The forum actually created a report called Top 50
05:18Investable Opportunities in a New Nature Economy. It's amazing how they've created a way to showcase how supply chains and
05:27AI efficiency,
05:28how you create AI systems to find deficiencies in finding efficiencies in productivity. Once you understand productivity, productivity afterwards creates
05:37results. And the results, especially if it's durable, well-designed, then you create better opportunities, but also products.
05:46You're from Philippines, I'm from Malaysia, ASEAN and siblings as well. So of course, ASEAN and Southeast Asia urbanizing fast,
05:56also building infrastructure right now. But is that a risk for future waste problems or actually a chance to build
06:05it better?
06:06That's a great question because, you know, ASEAN with GOBI, we see Asia as one big thing and most especially
06:13ASEAN as our home. DEFA has been a conversation with ASEAN for a long time.
06:18But hopefully we get some positive outcomes from the Philippines sharing ASEAN and we're there as an active contributor. I
06:27think what's interesting now is we need to work together in this idea of middle powers, right?
06:33Malaysia is one, the Philippines emerging towards that next 10, 20 years, we're going to be top 10 largest economies
06:40in the world. How do you create those middle powers to make this equitable, competitive landscape?
06:46And the only way to do that is through one block, right? We need to rely on each other, but
06:50with the technologies, we're actually leapfrogging. If we're talking about ASEAN just doing digital adoption, now we're doing another leapfrog.
06:59By the time we hop a step, we're already hopping another step because AI is changing everything and that's rewritten
07:05the code, mind you, on everything, whether that's how we do longevity, how we transport, and even this whole question
07:12about UBI.
07:13So things are changing and we're here for the long term.
07:17All right. My final question, 2035, 10 years down the road, how do you see the cyclical economy, based on
07:25your observation of the current efforts by the countries, especially from the South East Asia, developing countries, the middle powers,
07:33so-called, because we are developing, at the same time we are facing challenges in terms of balancing, find the
07:37balancing act.
07:39That's a really good question, because we're at the state of a fractured world, lots of geopolitical tensions ahead.
07:48It's now we need to believe and trust on our leaders putting us in the right direction, but even more
07:56so, not even 2035, what's going to happen by 2030?
07:58Our SDGs. Without those SDGs, how do we even get to that?
08:03But historically speaking, the world, before we turn bonkers, we usually convert.
08:11But for example, COVID, all of us had to work together to make it happen. Should we wait for another
08:16COVID for us to unite to do it? Or should we just work together as one world, one earth?
08:21And that's a question that we do. And technology is one of the best places because it doesn't discriminate.
08:28It's a place where anybody can have success. And most importantly, how do we use that to have a humane,
08:35ethical society for everyone?
08:38Hello, thank you so much for joining us. I really appreciate your time. So all the best for your sessions
08:42throughout the AMNC.
08:44Okay, circle economy ini ada syabarannya dahulu, seperti yang kalau sebutkan, ketika pandemi COVID-19, kita banyak reality check dan
08:51kita telahpun mempercepatkan pelbagai proses.
