00:00Hi, my name is Jess Belzicki and here at the Newcastle Herald we're getting ready to head
00:06down to Sydney for this year's state budget on Tuesday. So the big question for us here is
00:12whether the Hunter is going to get its fair share, given that we've brought in more than
00:17$9 million in coal royalties since 2023. So what do our key stakeholders here want out of this
00:26year's budget? Well, there are a few things that are on the agenda again this year, so that includes
00:32the stage 2 redevelopment for the John Hunter Hospital, which would see things fixed such as
00:38ageing infrastructure and capacity issues. The government has already promised $55 million to
00:45stage 1, however. Multiple organisations like Business Hunter and Committee for the Hunter
00:52have asked for funding for the Broad Meadow Precinct, so that would include a new entertainment and
00:58events centre. Other key issues on the agenda include funding for Newcastle Airport and unlocking
01:06post-mining land for new homes. If you'd like to stay up to date with our budget coverage,
01:13you can follow at the Newcastle Herald website for our on-the-ground coverage.
